I hate this insurance
I hate this insurance. No matter who you get in customer service no one knows what they are talking about. My dentist office been waiting for a simple fax for 6 months now. They are the worse. I called customer service yesterday and the man answered the phone but didn’t say anything. I heard his background and him coughing he was hoping I would hang up after waiting 10 minutes for a person. I repeatedly said hello I hear you!!! After the 3rd time he started laughing saying oh sorry. How unprofessional!!!!!!! I can’t stand Aetna. And the coverage sucks
Aetna is an abusive scamming insurance company
Aetna is got to be the most abusive heath insurance company there is in the market. I got stuck with Aetna 3 years ago when they absorbed the company that I had for my medications, as I am with Medicare. Arbitrarily they went from $28.00 in 2023 to $48.00 monthly in 2025, to $98.00 monthly in 2026 ! That is double and over 100% Year over Year! They don’t matter raping their customers to squeeze arbitrarily the most the6 can without any concerns, when I called them to complain, they blew me off, cancel my coverage and told me to call Medicare and seek help! It is obvious they don’t give a damn about their customers. I once was an insurance agent for another company, but I have never seen a blatant disregard from an instance company like Aetna is now I don’t have any coverage for prescriptions until the next enrollment period in October! I warn everyone that is considering Aetna to go somewhere else! This company is ruined by thugs and fraudsters that have no regard for their customers . As a normal citizen I don’t have the power to fight an abusive company like Aetna but the only way I can fight back is to warn those people considering going with them to seek other professional and honest companies that are not seeking to screw their customers ! Stay away from Aetna! If you don’t you will become another victim like me!
Three requests + appeals from top Boston Doc - DENIED! …
This healthcare denies every claim When a top rated Boston Surgeon says this type of surgery is needed these ilow skilled claims reps 1) can’t read medical terms, 2) tell your doctor and you you don’t meet criteria but when you ask what aren’t we meeting they can’t even ans this This is an insult t to the doctors & Patients We have requested approval 3x plus appeals and everything is DENIED Insult over injury they keep sending the same BS paperwork to your email, text o Ed & over approval DENIED Team Luigi !
Worst!
I turned 65 in January of 26'. Medicare kicked in and I selected Aetna Medicare Advantage for my supplement plan. My primary care doctor was listed which was good. Unfortunately I couldn't select him as my PCP because Aetna had him erroneously listed as a specialist, which he is not. I called over 20 times, spoke to someone different every time, even got on a three way with my doctor to rectify this, yet it took until July to get it done! I spoke to three separate resolution specialists, who each said they'd call me back, none ever did! I finally received my new card listing my doctor as my PCP. Unfortunately, the next day my doctor received a letter that Aetna is dropping him, with no explanation whatsoever! Aetna customer service is the worst! I am definitely switching when open enrollment happens.
I would give them zero stars if I…
I would give them zero stars if I could. They approved a surgery I had last year, so my surgeon scheduled it, and then Aetna proceeded to bill me in full for months, saying it wasn't covered. The hoops I've had to jump through to take care of this was such a time suck. I think they just hoped I would go away but it was over $70k! Now, I need a medication, and they have denied coverage despite loads of documentation that it's medically necessary, and I've already tried all the 'starter' therapies. It's just a mess. All my approved prescriptions disappeared and my doctor had to refax, or resubmit all of them. It takes forever to get them to do their job and they don't communicate. They just tell me to call the pharmacy, call my doctor- but heaven forbid they step in on my behalf and help ME, their customer.
Stay away!!! Bunch of liars!
Stay away! These people will do nothing but run you around in circles and flat out lie to your face and pass the buck to the next representative that you got to deal with. I've been lied to on eight different phone calls eight different times including supervisors and even their complaint department that I left a review about. It's absurd that these people handle Medical necessities. I was told I was going to get mailed exactly what they were telling me over the phone only to be disappointed for the 8 hours later when I never got the email and here we are a month and a half out and I still don't have the email they lie flat to your faces.
Zero stars
Zero stars. Aetna assigned two dramatically different allowed amounts—$105.28 and $258.79—to two office visits from the same in-network physician. Both claims were billed at $298 under the same CPT code, 99214.
After multiple complaints and appeals, Aetna still could not identify the specific pricing factor that caused the difference. The final appeal response repeated my deductible and combined separate office, ECG, and hospital laboratory claims but did not answer my actual question.
During my call, the representative offered several changing explanations, including laboratory services, visit duration, complexity, deductible, and the physician’s contract. She later admitted that she did not have access to the actual pricing calculation, contractual rate, or fee schedule.
She could not connect me with the department that issued the final decision. She suggested a federal dispute but could not name the organization or confirm that it handles allowed-amount disputes.
I requested a supervisor. A callback request was supposedly submitted, but the representative could not confirm that the supervisor would call. No supervisor ever called me.
Aetna can calculate exactly what the patient owes, but no accessible employee can explain how the amount was calculated. This is a complete failure of transparency, accountability, and customer service.
Bad customer service
I Had lab work done through labcorp and they did not complete the test and then billed me approx. 111.00 dollars. I called aetna who transferred me to an off shore labcorp lady who stated supervisor was busy but would call me. None of that happened. I refuse to pay the bill until my labs are complete. AETNA failed me. So did sorry labcorp
Nightmare
Nightmare. Misinformation from associates through patient portal messaging and who answered the phone that no pretty much know nothing about the plans and how to find who’s in your network. You will receive incorrect reasoning behind why something may have been denied or just copy and paste responses. They don’t even answer your questions or will direct you to someone else to speak to who will then direct you to another person until you’re right in the face. Just the absolute worst healthcare insurance I’ve ever had. I would not recommend it to anybody. Do not ever use this insurance. As a patient and healthcare provider, I can’t say enough terrible things about my experiences. cannot wait until my insurance changes this upcoming year.
Provider Credentialing
I am submitting this complaint regarding my experience with Aetna's provider credentialing process.
We have experienced significant delays and an ongoing lack of communication throughout the credentialing process. Despite submitting all required documentation and making numerous attempts to obtain updates, we have received little to no meaningful information regarding the status of our application.
For more than three months, we have repeatedly contacted Aetna seeking assistance. During nearly every interaction, we have been told that the matter would be escalated and instructed to wait 7–10 business days for a response. When no update or resolution is provided, we are forced to call back and repeat the exact same process. This cycle has continued for months with no meaningful progress, no accountability, and no clear explanation for the delay.
What makes this situation even more concerning is that this provider was already credentialed and in network with Aetna at another practice location just two months before joining our current practice. Given the provider's recent participation in Aetna's network, the prolonged delays and lack of communication have been especially difficult to understand.
The inability to obtain timely responses has made it extremely difficult to plan patient care and business operations. We have patients waiting to establish care, and these unnecessary delays have prevented them from accessing behavioral health services. This has affected not only our ability to provide care but also the patients who depend on timely access to mental health treatment.
The most frustrating aspect of this experience has been the complete lack of transparency. Reaching the appropriate department is difficult, updates are inconsistent or nonexistent, and no one has been able to provide a realistic timeline or explain why the credentialing process has stalled. Each inquiry results in another promise to escalate the issue, yet no meaningful action follows.
I understand that credentialing is a necessary process, but providers deserve timely communication, reasonable processing times, and accurate status updates. Instead, we have spent months repeatedly following up on an issue that should have been resolved long ago.
I respectfully request that Aetna:
* Conduct an immediate review of our credentialing application and provide a detailed status update.
* Assign a dedicated representative or supervisor to oversee this matter until it is resolved.
* Explain the cause of the prolonged delays despite the provider's recent in-network status with Aetna.
* Improve communication and accountability within the credentialing department so that other providers do not experience the same repeated delays and lack of follow-through.
My goal in submitting this complaint is not simply to express frustration but to encourage meaningful improvements to a process that directly affects healthcare providers and, more importantly, the patients who rely on timely access to care. I hope Aetna will take this matter seriously and work toward resolving both our specific situation and the broader issues within its credentialing process.
Aetna has become a horrible insurance…
Aetna has become a horrible insurance provider. A medication that I've been taking for 35 yr now costs $199.53. Last year I paid $60 with same insurance. Two years ago I paid 0. Paying $200/ mo is ridiculous. They are gouging people to maximize their profits. Sinister!
In addition, their customer service is non-existent. I called yesterday and the first woman, Mia, was incompetent. She pressed the wrong button and cut me off. Then I tried a second time and the phone system wasn't working. The agent kept saying "hello" and couldn't hear me. I called a third time and reached Rachel who asked questions to verify my identity for 4 min 54 seconds, as recorded on my phone. I believe they're trying to make it as difficult as possible for patients so they give up. Rachel said she'd process a prior authorization with my doctor's office. I gave her all the contact info which she verified. Same doc as on record. I have yet to see any prior authorization.
This is just the beginning. They are now charging exorbitant amounts for a doctor visit. I've had Aetna previously, so I know what they charged last year and what they're charging this year. It's unethical and sinister. Shame on you Aetna for your horrific practices, your greed and your treatment of patients.
Probably the WORST Prescription Drug…
Probably the WORST Prescription Drug Coverage I have ever seen in my life!!!! I CANCELLED IT!!!
A TOTAL RIPPOFF!!!!
SO HAPPY WITH HUMANA NOW!!!!
Absolutely the worst dental plans ever…
Absolutely the worst dental plans ever these guys a a fraud in the system definitely will mention to Nick Shirley and have investigated. So do yourself a favor and do not submit to Aetna dental insurance unless you like to be ripped off!!!
They would rather you die than cover costs
Put their customer service on lowest possible quality microphones so between the quality and their accents you can hardly understand them. Aetna as a company does not care about your health and seems they would prefer you to die under their care. 30 days for preapprovals that should take less than a week. Frequent requests to re-verfiy medication is 'necessary' when you have been taking it for years, but don't worry they don't bother giving you a 30 day heads up on that, they'll just drop coverage and expect you make the necessary calls to prove medication that's kept you in remission for years is still necessary.
Aetna used to be a good Medicare plan
Aetna used to be a good Medicare plan. Each year, they take more away benefits and specialist, which is primarily all I use, if I need a doctor is $75 per visit! So we pay more and get less. Now they have people who barely speak English, and nothing is automated, apparently, since you have to read off your card number and verify everything, but your blood type, to speak to someone who knows nothing, and you can't understand what they are saying. My dentist just dropped them due to the difficulty of working with them, so I have no dental plan, but out-of -network since I like my dentist. I have gotten no help in finding doctors for a special condition in past calls. October I am gone!
Their prescription coverage is almost…
Their prescription coverage is almost nothing. Some not covered at all.
After switching our rx costs went from $1.80 to $30 on one and $120.00 to $489. For another. They are a complete scam and rip off in comparison to other insurance companies.
Dishonest lying Company
The customer service people do NOT speak English. The ones that do, do NOT listen to you. If you ask to speak to a supervisor, they will LIE to you about being a supervisor.
I have a "Smart Fit" plan last year. Aetna "Cancelled" it and told me I had to find new insurance for this year. I took the "Signature Care" with Aetna for this yr. A completely different plan, a completely different year and Aetna is running the two plans together and refusing to pay for "THIS YEARS" Doctors appointments.
Those MORONS discontinued the plan yet they act like it is still in existance.
I HIGHLY RECCOMEND you find another insurance company. This company could NOT be more dishonest. I will NEVER deal with them again and I plan to write a review daily.
They deserve zero stars but I have to…
They deserve zero stars but I have to add one in order to leave a review. This company is a rip off. While an active employee they paid my claims and then when I switched to cobra all of a sudden the same providers are not in network and they denied all my claims. When I called, I was told that was wrong, my cobra policy was the same as the active policy and my providers were in network but, when it came time to resubmit the claims for reconsideration, they went back to saying providers are out of network. Beware of using them for cobra coverage!!!
So FULLY DISGUSTED w/this COMPANY…
So FULLY DISGUSTED w/this COMPANY CUSTOMER SERVICE...... I have been trying 2get back $30 since October I have went through filing reimbursement complaint grievances over & over AGAIN & I'VE HAD ENOUGH so today I Googled corporate office got to switchboard who could barely speak English she said there's no such thing as a corporate office person that I can talk to. She wanted me to talk to customer service again which I KNOW WHERE THAT WOULD LEAD ME & DO 4 ME BECAUSE LOOK HOW LONG ITS TAKEN ME & HOW FAR THAT GOT ME. SO I'm I think I'm going to get a hold of my insurance agent & just change insurance companies because what if something bad & expensive happens where I would have to come up with big money out of my pocket EXPENCES. How would I pay for that!!!!! Because I KNOW I'LL NEVER GET IT BACK from them. The last person I talked to said ma'am yr so RIGHT & I'm so SORRY you're going through this AGAIN. I could escalate this highrr up & my reply was NO THANK you. Because Ive been dealing w/it since October & where did it get me. I Googled the corporate office and you know the rest of the story. I know what all the high people in company are the ones that have & get big money and we are just the peons.
Aetna customer service beyond useless and slow
Aetna customer service beyond pathetic - all the more so when it actually wouldn't be much more work to provide useful information.
First, they provided an incomplete reimbursement of a claim for new prescription glasses. The claims adjustment process is unclear and - despite stating that they would revert "within 5 business days," I didn't hear anything for weeks. Then, they claimed they need further reviews of the claim...just for frames!
When I finally got a response by email, all it said was that the claim was "resolved and closed." Nothing about HOW it was resolved. Positively? Negatively? Zero help. And, of course, no details or helpful information provided in my online account.
DO NOT TRUST or USE AETNA Vision insurance. The worst.
