It's almost like our partnering with Unison was meant to be. They were very helpful at every stage and never treated us as if we stupid or a nuisance like we were by a different financial institution. The possibility of accessing our equity without having to reset the mortgage had never occurred to us until the mailer with their offer arrived. It was exactly what we needed. Thanks Unison

My experience with Unison was very negative. I started the process in March and funding happened only in Late July. Not because I procrastinated either but because the rep assigned to me (known amongst his colleague as B-Huts) never got back to me in a timely manner. I sent emails, calls, voicemails and got calls back from him only when I called multiple times their sales line. Once the deal was sealed, their promise to fund as agreed upon was not respected. The did send an email to apologize 2 day prior to funding to inform me of that issue... really ? We are talking of over $100,000 and no update prior ? They offered a $500 gift card for our patience. Well because of them I had to move money around and incurred a $109.85 fee. I copied my email to him below (it remain withour a response to this day...) Also, their promise for the gift card still has not materialize. Empty promises... stay away and go with a competitor. I copied my response to them below.

Sent to my rep on 07/14/22: I felt relieved when I signed the paperwork more than a week ago. You should focus on the word relieved because one should not feel this way when concluding a deal in good faith. I should have felt happy, that this was the right decision for my family but nope, felt relieve the process was over because it was anything but pleasant and enjoyable. While I believe you are part of an organization that is clearly poorly structured, maybe understaffed (now clearly poorly funded as well). Why should this be my concern ? I’m the customer and your corporation stands to gain a huge profit on my house and I’m stuck waiting… again. When doing a transaction this size, attention to the customer should be given and I got none, or at least what I got felt like I was just a number on a spreadsheet. I had to chase you around throughout the process, called many times, emails sent and given excuses along the way all the time. Maybe you guys were taking deals you couldn’t fund waiting for the round of funding to come in ?

This is clearly a pattern… A ‘’hold’’ pattern. Now I’m back to be worried. Well Brandon how convenient your company was not funded in time to fund MY deal… A deal is a deal. I have moved money based on the paperwork I signed. I expect the funds to arrive as contractually agreed upon and they have not. Since your contract is so well crafted, this is the proverbial ‘’we pretend we care about our customer but we really don't’’. How about we throw them chump change in an attempt to fend off the anger ?

This email below is a slap in the face and only compounds to the rest of my experience with Unison so far. How foolish of me to trust you with this large a transaction, I should have signed with your competition, they offered less but never dodged my calls and emails. In the meantime I had to move money around because the whole point of this deal was to stave off interest on other debt we planned on clearing before the interest free period ended. I started this process in March… that’s 4 months ago !!!!! Publicity is not accurate, disclaimer are not even close. If the funds are not deposited on time as expected (which clearly will be the case here) then I will be forced to pay $109.85 interest on my line of credit. Now I need to move money some other way to cover that cost… I always planned with time for a margin in mind. I thought 60 days would be largely sufficient, never thought it would take 4 months (and counting).

I guess eventually someone will send me a letter, a call or something because I am sure when it comes time for Unison to collect, they’ll put the resources to manage but not really to honor their own words with servicing your customers. The process was really smooth. The only issues for me was the time setting up for the home inspection and the actual arrival of the payout. Trying to work around schedules can be a bit tough. The arrival of the payout was disappointing only because of the time it took. It took longer than previously promised.

The good thing was that everything I needed to know about the equity loan was given up front on the self serving online portal. The person I worked with always followed up with me when I called or had a questions. The only real issue I had was the time it took to complete. I wish I was given an ETA of the timeline of the whole process. It took about 3 months in total, start to finish. It may have been quicker for others but that was my timeline. If others are thinking about doing it, expect the process to take about 2 - 3 months.

Process was easy and quick. Overall from initial contact form to deposit about 30 days. Please read the contract throughly and reach out to your rep with any questions. Legit any negative reviews that I see are folks failing to do their due diligence. Yes, you are selling a portion of future equity. Yes the amount depends on home value, yes you cannot take out equity/refi or sell within fixed amount of time, yes it’s recorded. If however you are looking for an equity loan with 30 years to pay back (or sell) with no change in interest and monthly payments than this is for you like me. I wasn’t going to refi and lose my 1.99% or add more to my mortgage payment bill. I used the lump payment and paid of all my credit card debt because high interest credit cards didn’t allow me to put money in savings. Either way, highly responsive and professional compared to few other companies I tried going with. Stella was amazing.

Originally I was applying the Home Equity Line of Credit with my credit union bank, the process took a long time and I decided not to proceed the process. Later on I found Union on a social media platform. I was attracted to Union because of the no monthly payment and it was like a investment. I did the online assessment and got a instead offer. I did some research and decided to accept the investment offer from Unison. The process was quite easy and it only took about 3-4 weeks to complete the process. I had to spend some time to understand the concept before I sign the paperwork. Union chafed for the processing fee and home inspection fee, which I think they’re unnecessary fees. It’s quite simple and everything went well. After signing the paperwork, I received the wire transfer of the fun in 7-10 days.

I had more equity in my home than I wanted sitting in it. Taking a HELOC with adjustable rates made no sense and with increasing rates for refinance, my current mortgage was 1/2 the rate I could refinance for. The Unison option made a great deal of sense for me as I simply wanted to have more liquidity. While the 4:1 option on the increase in value can seem high, the fact that Unison shares in the risk of devaluation, then given current circumstances, the value was worth it for my circumstance. Their representatives were easy to work with and rapidly responsive. My funding came as expected and explained and just a few days after closing. A Win Win Situation.

End to end everything was exceptional. From tools used to immediate responses to working around my schedule to precision in timing. Everything that was done was exactly how it was explained and committed to all along the way. I have never experienced a service like this before, to the point that it didn't feel real! Highly recommend.

I wanted to give 5 stars for the start of the process as contact was made right away and expectations were lined out, which was encouraging. But I would give 1 star for the actual process through funding. It took a month to fund after signing, and I kept being promised different dates as to when it was scheduled to fund. Then due to a backlog, there were delays. I was promised a gift card by the end of July as consolation for the delay, but never received that either. I had provided an appraisal upfront, but the status showed they were waiting on my collateral for over a month, when in fact they had it within a day of my application. Very frustrating. I've been in finance and real estate for 22 years and while the Unison co-investment is a great alternative to a 2nd mortgage or equity line, but the process took way too long and in the end, I didn't net nearly the funds I was initially told I would. I do understand there are many factors that play into that but it just wasn't as great of an experience as I hoped it would be. If you're looking to get more equity and close on the transaction relatively quickly, I would say Unison isn't the best option. If you have time though, and want to consolidate debt or just avoid having a 2nd mortgage payment, Unison would be a good choice

Unison was AWESOME to work with. Everything was handled smoothly and as promised. Their approach is fairly new and for me was exactly what I was looking for. Do your research, define your boundaries, and give Unison a chance. I am happy I decided to go with their product to make my dream home even more dreamy.

This company did all of my qualifying with no drama and no pressure, top shelf all the way!

This is a bait and switch scam. You are basically being targeted by a predatory lending entity that preselects financially vulnerable targets. They will barely have any contact with you and it’s an impersonal experience intentionally. To even speak to a sales vulture you must schedule an appt which they routinely will not honor. Getting information is difficult and they have a very take it or leave it attitude because they know they are in the power position. They use used car sales tactics and smoke and mirrors to hook you. They aren’t simply giving you 17.5% for a 20% stake in future profits in your home. As I found out too late, but in reality they own your home and they are hoping you can’t keep your house so they can snatch it. See, when you commit you are charged exorbitant fees in addition to using questionable appraisers and your offer will be low. They will not negotiate in good faith. They will make promises they won’t keep. They will even screw you out of your right to rescind even though I signed on a Friday and the weekend nor the national holiday on the following Monday showed count. They thought by only reaching me Tuesday after 12pm cutoff time I was no longer able to cancel. These people will use delay tactics and interface with you maybe after 24-48 hours have elapsed. How are they legally allowed to pretend to be 20% invested as a partner in your property when immediately they subtract 2.5% for a safety cushion, huh? You will pay 5k in fees. They will lowball your home value. They will delay payment for weeks. Then when you sell apparently, they get all their money back plus 70% of all appreciation in the home. How does that equal a 20% ownership investment?

It’s a bad deal. I’m getting a lawyer and reporting their scam to the CA AG and NC AG as well as the BBB next week.

A great easy experience. No hassle. And the feeling of no monthly payments is so nice. I recommend unison to anyone who doesn't want a monthly mortgage.

It’s not for everyone but for me and my family, unison make sense plus I have. 3% interest rate so I would have never refinanced. Plus soon as I am done with renovations, unisons adjust the investment amount. I’m planning on staying way over 15 years so yes it make sense.

I am incredibly excited about my consumer experience with Unison, based on research of other companies in this space, I felt most comfortable with Unison's parameters and deal structure.
