For those direct jobs, we vet freelancers and limit free applications to ensure quality and avoid overwhelming clients. Twine Pro helps us manage that process transparently without charging high commission fees like other platforms.

Twine is different from other freelance platforms in that we don’t charge high commission fees on your earnings. Instead, we offer a free account where you can apply to a limited number of jobs per month, and an optional Twine Pro subscription that unlocks more opportunities (like 50 job applications per month, featured placement in searches, and client contact details for direct communication).

We vet every freelancer before they appear to clients, so the profile setup helps us match people with the right jobs. We don’t require anyone to upgrade, and many freelancers do land work on the free plan.

We hear your point about wanting to try before committing, and that’s fair – it’s something we’re actively exploring to improve. Our goal is to provide transparent access to real freelance jobs without hidden fees or commissions. We're in the process of increasing limits currently, and this should be live in a of couple weeks.

Thanks for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re really sorry to hear your experience with Twine didn’t meet your expectations. We know freelancers put a huge amount of effort into building portfolios and applying for roles, so it’s frustrating when that doesn’t result in responses. Out of interest, did you try the resume import feature to save time getting set up?

On Twine, freelancers can apply to at least one job per month for free, and Pro gives more applications and visibility, but we never restrict freelancers from getting started. While we vet jobs to ensure they’re legitimate, we can’t guarantee client replies. Some projects receive many applications, and ultimately, it’s the client who decides who to engage. They sometimes use automated pre-screening questions to save time for both freelancers and clients, but clients always review shortlisted applications directly.

We’re glad you tried the free trial, but we completely understand it’s disappointing not to get traction. Many freelancers do land projects on Twine, though it can take persistence and targeting the right jobs.

Unfortunately, this can be a challenge across freelance platforms, especially when clients receive a high number of applications. That’s actually one of the reasons we introduced Twine Pro, to give serious freelancers more visibility by limiting the number of free applications per job, ensuring that clients aren’t overwhelmed and that each application has a fairer shot.

Twine Pro is part of our business model, yes, but it’s designed with transparency and fairness in mind. Unlike other platforms that charge freelancers 20–50% commission per project, Twine Pro is a flat monthly fee so you can keep 100% of what you earn. Our support team replies to all messages during UK working hours Monday to Friday and we aim to respond within one working day. If you haven’t received a reply please check your spam folder or reach out to us directly at support@twine.net so we can help.

In terms of client replies, we understand it’s frustrating when clients don’t respond. We vet jobs before they go live and guide clients on best practices but ultimately we can’t force them to engage. Freelancers with strong and relevant applications do tend to get better results.

Some job descriptions can be more generic especially in early stages of a project but we’re always working to improve the quality and clarity of listings.

Regarding the subscription you get up to 50 applications each month with Twine Pro not just one. You also get access to client contact details and better visibility in search results. We charge a flat subscription rather than commissions, which helps keep more money in freelancers’ pocket,s especially on larger projects

The issue you're describing with email verification isn't something we've seen reported by other users recently, so it's possible it could be related to a browser caching issue. Could you please try clearing your browser's cache and cookies, or accessing Twine through a different browser to see if that resolves the problem?

Twine was built to help freelancers like yourself, especially those trying to get started or make extra income. So to hear that you feel let down by the experience is really disappointing, and not what we want at all.

We do have a free account option because we want Twine to be accessible to everyone. But it’s true that our Pro plan unlocks more tools to help freelancers stand out and connect with clients more directly. That's how we keep the platform running without charging commission fees on jobs. That said, you should never feel manipulated or obligated to upgrade, and I’m sorry if we gave that impression.

You also mentioned dealing with a scam. That’s really concerning. We take scams seriously and regularly remove suspicious posts, but if anything slipped through, I’d love for you to email us directly at support@twine.net so we can investigate and take action.
