I moved to Tuggs after it was recommended to me following the Years recall, but unfortunately our experience has not been great.

From the outset, I found the very large variation in calorie content between the different recipes difficult to reconcile with the feeding recommendation provided, and it makes it difficult to have confidence that a single recommended daily quantity is appropriate across the range - it may be that they balance when averaged across the range but that assumes having the full range is possible, and in our case it definitely was not.

More importantly, our 6mo old puppy has had repeated gastrointestinal problems while using the food - despite having tolerated insect protein as a very young puppy. He reacted extremely badly to the beef recipe when introduced and ultimately needed a gastrointestinal diet to settle things down. After. couple of weeks we subsequently introduced the cod and then turkey, which he tolerated acceptable. He also initially tolerated pork for around two days, before having another very significant reaction after introducing the chicken. He has now been unwell for long enough that we feel we need to stop re-integrating with the remaining food altogether and give his gastrointestinal system a complete reset. Protein types that he previously tolerated with years are now off limits.

This has meant throwing away not only the remaining beef and pork, but the turkey as well, despite the fact that he had initially seemed to tolerate it.

To be fair to Tuggs, he loved the food. Palatability was never the problem, and the food itself seems appealing. But it is expensive compared with many broadly similar alternatives, and at that price I think it is reasonable to expect a much greater degree of confidence and consistency.

I felt let down because improved wellbeing, digestion and gut health are exactly the kinds of benefits companies in this sector sell themselves on. If anything, our experience with Tuggs has created more dietary uncertainty, not less. We have spent weeks trying to work out which recipes he can tolerate, had repeated gastrointestinal upsets, needed a gastrointestinal diet, and are now effectively having to start again, which slightly defeats the point of paying a premium for this kind of food.

Obviosuly, the amount of freezer space required is absurd. To make the food remotely affordable you really need to order in bulk, but storing that quantity of frozen food for a large dog is extremely difficult. Our experience has made that particularly frustrating because we have ended up having to throw significant amounts of that expensive food away anyway.

Frustratingly, when I placed another order, the cod, one of the few recipes we felt confident he could manage, wasn't included. Tuggs did refund it, but at that particular point it was the one food I most needed them to supply.

There was then a separate and quite alarming problem with the packaging. Tuggs uses cooling packs containing a gel, rather than the water-filled packs I had previously received from Butternut Box. Our puppy got into one and consumed some of the contents. When I contacted Tuggs because I was speaking to my vet and needed to know exactly what was in the gel, they were unable to tell me. Regardless of whether the substance ultimately posed a significant risk, I was disappointed that a company sending this material alongside the dog food could not immediately provide its composition when a dog had ingested it.

I response dogs can obviously react differently to individual foods, and I would not criticise a company simply because one particular protein didn't agree with my dog. What has made this experience so disappointing is the accumulation of problems: the very different calorie contents between recipes, repeated gastrointestinal reactions, the omission of the one recipe he had reliably tolerated, the cooling-pack incident, the impractical freezer requirements, significant wasted food and money, and what I felt was slightly limited contrition from the company about the overall experience.

We have spent a considerable amount of money on food that we now cannot sensibly use, yet there has been no meaningful compensation for that loss.

Ultimately, Tuggs is a nice, evidently very palatable product, with an otherwise sound ethical model, but in our experience it has been expensive, inconvenient and has failed to deliver the dietary reassurance and digestive wellbeing that I would expect to justify the premium. For us, it simply hasn't been worth it and so we will be returning to Years.com.

My dog absolutely loves this food. He clears his bowl every time and as soon as it’s put down and he’s never done that with any food he goes off it after a few days but he’s been on this for 6 weeks and not once has he turned his nose up at it he’s devoured it everytime

My dog is a very fussy dog. He’s a poor eater but he Loves Tuggs meal very much. He’s actually liking his plate clean. He loves everything except the cod.
Only problem I have is making sure that the packing is defrosted every day.

We have a now 17 week old puppy. He was on kibble when we got him from the breeder but was not loving it. Moved to Tuggs about 3 or 4 weeks ago and he loves it. His coat seems shinier and softer too but that may be a coincidence.

My dog, who is almost 13, has had no problems at all even though he was moved almost straight away to Tuggs without much of a transition period. He eats it with gusto snd his stools are good. My only little gripe is that the packaging isn't recyclable. However, Tuggs are working towards this.
I did have a subscription but have decided to use my local Jollyes to purchase to save on freezer space.

My two dogs enjoy TUGGS and seem to be doing well on the food but have only been on a couple of months. Unfortunately, the service hasn’t been as reassuring as I’d hoped. Recent issues with delivery communication and missing items have meant more chasing than I would expect.

Although I’ve received apologies and the missing items have been promised with my next order, I haven’t always felt my concerns were fully understood or addressed. With a frozen food subscription, reliable deliveries and clear, attentive customer support are a big part of the experience.

Pleased with the food so far, but disappointed with the service.

Great dog food both mine love, vet always compliments them on how shiny their coats are and how healthy their teeth are. Never had food refusal from either.

My dog loved dinner time any way, but now with fresh tuggs as her meal she loves dinner time even more now. She loves to come watch me make it now unlike before , then she runs excitedly too her bowl when it’s ready.

We have a fussy cocker spaniel who would often be sick after eating, since changing to Tuggs she jumps like a kangaroo while I am making her dinner and loves every recipe. Being sick has calmed down also. Every order came as directed and no problems ordering. Glad she loves her dinners now.

Not portioned amounts and having to freeze meals.

Very new to this brand but all seems very good so far. Food is good quality. The pouches are easy to use.
I need to speak with the team today so will see how that goes. But I’ve already had a nice customer service call. So I am hoping they will be helpful.

We moved to Tuggs following the Years food recall. We have had frozen-fresh food before, but Tuggs food looks to be better quality, with visible chunks of meat and good nutrition for our French bulldog. She is very sceptical of her food, especially any new recipe's but she dived in headfirst to Tuggs and doesn't leave a scrap left.

Great quality food, treats etc. free gifts were a lovely suprise. Excellent customer service. I highly recommend this company. Planet friendly products as well.

We were getting desperate with our 9 month old cocker spaniel as she was getting so fussy and wasn’t eating any food we put down for her except treats! We stumbled across Tuggs and we’ve not looked back! Our pup sits where her bowl is waiting for breakfast and dinner, cleans her bowl in what seems like seconds! She loves it and a huge relief for us!
