I have been with Tomato Energy for 8 months. The best electricity supplier I have had. Great rates, friendly staff proactively check in with me occasionally. Bills have always been on time and recent changes to the bill really helpful with graphs showing when I use power. The new app is really easy to use. Long may it last!

Avoid like rancid fruit!!
Tomato sound like a scam and it turns out they are. I joined in February for a cottage I am not yet living in, so only very sporadically use any power. I have submitted readings each month, showing how little energy I use, but instead of using these for billing, Tomato plucked an estimate out of the sky, 5 times higher than it should be, entered it in my list of readings (I was 300 miles away on the date they did this!) and despite my contacting them to request they pause the wildly overinflated direct debit, they took the money anyway. I spoke to various agents who all said "I'm so sorry, this shouldn't have happened" then made refund promises they didn't keep. In the end I had to contact my bank to recoup the money. Still no corrected bill, and now I am getting emails claiming they know nothing of the problem and asking me to start again from scratch, sending photos of my meter that I've already sent. When I ask for a call, they ignore me. Genuinely appalled that a supplier could be so incompetent - I would not recommend them to anyone!!
** Further to the response from Tomato Customer Care team, I understand that this is not the service you aim to provide - I am told this repeatedly when I contact you, but the point is you still have not corrected my bill!! Of course, this is the fault of the billing team - customer care have been nothing but polite and apparently helpful, yet everything you have promised has come to nothing, which is stressful to say the least. I would be so grateful if you could cut the smoke and mirrors and provide more actual 'care' and help.
*** And a further update - I have just been sent another outrageous bill, based on fabricated 'readings', for the last month since I registered my complaint! Now I can't enter my own actual readings because they are lower than the crazy estimate!! Clearly I have cancelled my direct debit and will not pay until this is resolved. Next step the Ombudsman. Please note that any positive reviews for this company are based on phone operatives who sound like angels but have no power whatsoever against their devil firm.

Top class customer service I must say from the team and Priya 💪 had British gas trying to take over my supply when I hadn't asked them to, took 2 days to sort out with them, but tomato energy was great! No way I want to leave tomato been saving so much.

I have a reoccurring issue with my…
I have a reoccurring issue with my billing regarding my meter reading. On more than one occasion I have had to reach out to Tomato but the issue crops up again. Today I spoke to Pargat on the phone after my emails had gone nowhere. Incredibly polite and helpful young man, walked me through my problem step by step. I reserve the 1* because my problem is yet to be solved but if it does, that is down to Pargat.

Tomato continues to estimate even though they have actual meter readings
Tomato continue to estimate readings even though they are given actual meter readings. They do not answer their emails. When you call Customer Service, all they do is apologise and say that they will get the Accounts Team to re-figure the bill. This never happens! You also cannot speak to anyone in the accounts department. Thankfully in September, we will be looking for a new supplier as our contract runs out in September!

Even getting a deadlock letter is even a challenge with Tomato Energy. I requested one nearly 2 weeks ago. I was told that personnel were on holiday and it would be delayed.

Still no deadlock letter from Tomato Energy. I have been promised a letter over 4 weeks ago. What is going on Tomato Energy?
SEPTEMBER 10th 2025. Still no deadlock letter, so I have filed a complaint the Energy Ombudsman.

Warnings, don’t use them
I would’ve given a minus 5 if I could, the most terrible supplier ever! We were charged 400 pounds for 3 months ESTIMATED usage of a 2 people’s flat in summer time. While with Octopus we only paid around 70 a month.
No communication on delaying our switch until I found out myself after 2 weeks of contracted date, no assistance in accessing my MyWatts account, just kept saying “nothing is wrong please rest assured”!
The customer service is non existent, when they don’t know how to or don’t want to proceed, they just completely ignore you.
I would warn anybody who considers using this supplier, you don’t want to waste your money and time on their horrendous service, it’s not even cheap!!

Good chat with VJ today. I thought initially it might be some kind of sales call to try to make me switch tariffs but appeared to be a courtesy call where he was able to answer some of my questions about my account and how to monitor my usage.
Very happy with the Tomato energy tariff options and their customer service. Better than Octopus!
Octopus were useless when it came to getting the combination of their app, my smart meter/smart charger, and my car to all talk to each other which is their requirement to charge the car at cheaper rates. Not to mention Tomato are cheaper.

I am rating the call with Anika here only whom I contacted via customer service having yet again been let down by other tomato agent promises & assurances. Anika listened and put actions in place that were instantly delivered. Thank you Anika - I know that 5 star reviews are important to individual employees and your actions deserved it …but what would be better is if the actual company delivered a consistently 5 star service from the outset thus avoiding the need for customers to raise complaints
