I’ve had an extremely frustrating experience with Synchrony Bank, and I would not recommend them to anyone.
I’ve consistently paid my balance on time every single month and even paid the account in full. Despite responsible usage and maintaining a solid credit score, my credit line was suddenly slashed down to $100 with no meaningful explanation. That kind of drastic reduction is completely unreasonable given my payment history and credit profile.
To make matters worse, I originally opened the account through an Amazon promotion. I was approved, used the card responsibly for about six months, and had zero issues—until out of nowhere, they reduced my limit and destabilized my account. No warning, no transparency, no justification that makes sense.
This kind of behavior feels arbitrary and unfair. It punishes responsible customers instead of rewarding them. Actions like this can negatively impact credit utilization and overall financial stability, which is unacceptable from a financial institution.
Because of this experience, I will be closing all of my accounts with Synchrony. I’ve completely lost trust in how they handle customer accounts and credit decisions.
There are far better, more reliable banks out there that actually value their customers. Synchrony is not one of them

Just got the notice that they were closing my accounts. I think it's more of a punishment than anything. I had a Brakes Plus card that I used because it was an interest free payment for the first year. Paid it off before the end of the year and they canceled. Good riddance, I got what I wanted from them.

Atlas Butler replaced our AC and told us we could pay it with a Project Card through Synchrony Bank. We called a representative for a pay in full amount. We were told the amount if we made sure it got paid that same day. We made a payment, we were told our balance was now zero and we closed the card.
A month later we received an email stating we owed interest. We called customer services today and were told they do not have a way of calculating a pay-in-full amount and that it would take 2 more payments in interest to bring the account to a zero balance. Fraudulent and deceptive behavior from Project Card with Synchrony Bank.

Y aún así me están cobrando 1.99 por el papel mensual y 2.00 de intereses por mes no se de que! I wish I could give this bank zero stars! As a customer of PayPal, I was offered a Cashback Rewards Mastercard. I spent less than $500 but earned $60.87 in cashback. When I went to pay on my account, the system would not allow me to redeem this amount towards my balance. Upon calling Synchrony Bank, I was informed that my account was closed (not at my request) and that I forfeited the cashback rewards. This is totally unfair and looks like a scam to me as they draw you in to open the account, spend money, then close the account and cheat you out of any cashback rewards. Please stay clear of this PayPal offer and anything to do with Synchrony Bank. I am pursuing this issue as it's a matter of principle and feel that I'm not obligated to pay my balance due to this lack of integrity on the part of the bank holding up to its end of the deal. Protect your wallet!

Using the Synchrony Pay Later (4 Payments) program has been beyond frustrating. My payment methods kept getting rejected (I was told incorrect numbers were in put), and payments kept getting reversed leading to $16.50 late fees. Customer Service was not helpful. I will never use this service again.

I applied for Care Credit with an anticipated possibility to use as emergency support when my dog should need to see a veterinarian. Never used it for long while. Two days ago I had to take my dog to see vet. Was presented a bill and used the card to pay for it. Was shocked to be told it was declined. Had to contact the bank and learned that my credit limit was reduced because I didn’t use it. Customer service tried to blame me for not using it.

I took advantage of a promotion for furniture and Synchrony is unfortunately the bank. I set-up my account online after I received the credit card and I swear I chose the mininum payment that's under $200 NOT to pay the account balance of under $10K. My bank account got hit for the entire account balance and then was returned, but I still got hit with an overdraft fee from my bank. I called Synchrony and asked if they could see my log activity but the agent said that they do not keep that sort of information. She said that she sees that I set up my account in January and selected the entire account balance for auto-pay. I was in my account a few days before the payment was due because I thought of upping the payment to make it an event $200 and I swear I still saw that the minimum amount was selected. I decided to leave the minimum as-is and canceled out of editing the auto-pay. I work with an inventory program where I can view all the log activities of which one of me or my co-workers did what and when and there is no way that a credit card company let alone I would think most companies who are online does not have a log to show my every move, especially when customers are supposed to have the ability to dispute charges with all the fraud going around.

Apparently they did nothing to assist us. With no Contract or Agreements, no signature on anything, believing a now crooked roofer who thinks he's a contractor, because we trusted this person, his company, to now do work for us, as in the past, took money from us after claiming so much damage and MOLD, then they did not do the work, and now Synchrony bank will do nothing to help or protect us.
We provided Synchrony so much proof of work not done, work this roofer claimed needed to be done and was not even inspected by this company (we have proof), took our money and rarely showing up, making up lies on so much, doing more damage and now Synchrony bank refusing to giving us a reason they are denying this claim and after four times trying to dispute this claim, Synchrony 'wrote us off' and would not talk to us, constantly they never gave us a reason why they denied our claim and refuses to hear us out.
What can be done? For one cut off their card use, write this warning review and turn to our Attorney to pursue this is court.
Worst credit card system ever
Worst credit card system ever. Had a dispute with them over a charge, which they repeatedly denied (I'm over 60, and have never seen an instance where you received an item completely different from what you ordered and are still held to account).
Reported them to the BBB and they lied and told the BBB they approved my claim.
Now they are slashing my credit limits without any cause...no change in my good credit report or balances.
Paying off PDQ and they can go to h*ll.

This is the worst bank ever! I have a couple of credit cards for merchants through them and if I could I would change the bank. I paid off an account and asked to have it closed - they closed the wrong and and, oh so sorry (not sorry) - it can't be reopened even if it was their error. The website doesn't always work, the virtual assistant is horrible and the customer service people don't care. And now even though I paid a credit card in advance because it hasn't been processed there is a big not on that account stating that they are trying to collect a debt and the account is past due!!! WTH
TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE
My medical provider said I could get a loan interest FREE: boy was I stupid. At six months, if the load is not paid off, I had to pay RETROACTIVE huge interest charges and 33% interest monthly going forward. A terrible experience: you have to read the legal paperwork when to take on one of these rip off scams.

I do not recommend Synchrony at all. I have a HYS account with them and I do not recommend it. Any other option is better. Their customer service might as well be all automated because they seem to be remote workers without any authority for action other than putting "notes" in your account. Mind you, this is all after calling twice because the first time I was disconnected and they never called me back. The second call lasted 40 minutes and was not helpful. The call taker did not seem knowledgable in the company and had difficulty answering the questions I asked, instead she would repeat something she already stated. I could also hear a lot of background noise from her home specifically her kids crying/yelling. Overall, it is better to open an account with a bank you already do business with that has branches close to you, employees that are knowledgeable and empowered to actually mitigate or resolve customer service issues, not just relay information that could be sent in an email.
Card constantly blocked with no notice
I have a million credit cards and have been managing my credit for decades. I have never in my life dealt with so much incompetence from a credit card issuer. I got the card. Less then a month later they called to say there was a hack and they need to send me a new card. Fine. Got the new card, updated various vendors, all set. Oh no. They blocked every other transaction. No text message to verify whether I'm making a legitimate purchase - just a block. My kid's daycare payment: blocked with no notice, so I got a late notice from the daycare and had to call and fix this. One time I was at the pool trying to buy an ice cream cone for my kid: card randomly blocked with no notice and I have to call to unblock it. It was ridiculous. This was all the time. Then I once again got a new card. Updated the info with various vendors with recurring charges. Added the card to apple pay. The very first attempt to use apple pay: blocked. Got a text message to call them. I call. They want me to make a bleeping home video of my face and government-issued ID before unblocking the card. Are you effing kidding me? No. That was the last straw. Setting aside the fact that they are constantly changing login and it's a huge pain to access the account to make a payment, I'm not making goddamn home videos before I'm allowed to buy socks. No. Just no. Don't do it. It's not worth the hassle. This is by far the absolute worst credit card out there.

I would not ever use this bank. Could never get it set up to make a payment for one and when I closed the account they kept charging me interest on a closed account after reporting to my credit that a payment was late on a closed card.
