I am a published author and do have a YouTube channel. I have been waiting over 3 months for a membership. I applied twice and never a response back. I did get text confirmation for application. Nothing else. If I could give a rating of 0 I would.

Steemit is nothing more than an illegal pyramid scheme. The platform claims to pay rewards for curating (voting on articles), but in reality does not. Sure, they have a reward pool, but unfortunately the payouts from that pool are calculated in such a way that 1 or 2 members at the very top of the pyramid will get 99% plus of the rewards, while the rest of the members get virtually nothing. As a newbie, you would be extremely lucky if you earned even $0.10 per month by voting on perhaps hundreds of articles. Steemit is most certainly the platform to AVOID!

Steemit is one of hundreds of applications or tools that use the Steem blockchain as their back end. What that means is that all the data is stored on the Steem blockchain.

Steemit was the first web application that uses the Steem blockchain. I nowadays use SteemPeak.

I'm not a whale and I started using Steem with barely any Steem Power in my account. A friend of mine who had joined earlier told me about Steem in 2017. I signed up on steemit.com and got my free account. My friend wasn't and still isn't one of the heavy hitters on Steem.

Steem has a reward pool for newly minted STEEM for content creators and curators. There have been problems with some people abusing the reward pool. But I must say that despite any and all problems there have been, I have earned MUCH MORE on Steem that I believe would've been possible anywhere else. All I have ever done is make posts, curate and delegate Steem Power to a few projects.

The reward pool abuse problems were mostly solved in hard fork 21 in August 2019. The vote selling industry died off and former vote sellers became curators. It's much better now. The token price has been decimated in the altcoin bear market but the platform works much better.

If you're a content creator, it's a very good idea to create a Steem account and cross post your content from YouTube, for example. You have nothing to lose. You don't have to invest anything to use the platform. Steemit, Inc will give you a free account with some delegated Steem Power on it so that you can get started.

The platform isn't flawless but all this negativity makes me wonder if some people actually prefer to be fleeced by the likes of Zuckerberg who take their data and give nothing back.

Steemit is a pyramid scam in which the wealthy with massive amounts of Steem power are manipulating Steemit and making all the money.

Beware - when paying to sign up - it is a total scam!!!!

I wanted to try the fast track service and made the mistake of sending 5 USD worth of ETH when prompted. The payment was confirmed. However - the steemit account creation tool did not work!! So I paid 5 ETH for nothing!

Lesson learned - please be very wary of paying anything on this platform it is a total scam!!! Be sure to only use the FREE version if you do insist on using it

It’s hard to call it blatant scam but it’s really a classic pyramid scheme, where the founders and very early adopters are making A LOT of money and the opportunity prospects for everyone else are inflated by perverse financial incentives.

Steemit has this very effective yet slightly deceptive way of attracting new users. Articles and videos conspicuously display how much Steem the article has attained in equivalent dollars. Go to the trending section or any of the popular sections and you’ll see dozens of articles that have supposedly made like hundreds of dollars. Not knowing better you think… Hey I could write a better article than this! I could be making like $400 just for writing an article! But actually the people making the big bucks are gaming the system and reinvesting a lot of their cryptocurrency back into system to artificially boost their posts — they are NOT actually making the amount of money that appears so conspicuously there underneath their articles. There’s some commenting bots that point this out BUT someone new to Steem has no way of knowing this.

There’s little hope of my best content going viral because the people gaming the system inflate the value so highly of their posts that making it to trending the pages trending pages is impossible. If your strategy is to attract attention organically by creating good content Steemit is not for you.

I’ve interacted in a conversational, none-spammy way with a number of other users on Steemit and yes you can find a lot of genuine human interaction there. Because Steemit looks like such a gold mine to those who don’t know better it’s growing rapidly; refresh the #introducingmyself hourly and you’ll see just how many new users are joining. The people will be quite excited to interact with you BUT keep in mind that by design Steemit is going to have a major problem with supply and demand of content creators vs content viewers. Everyone is just joining the site to get rich by hopefully one day getting paid $400 for an article that takes 45 minutes to write. The value in Youtube or Medium is that about 90% of users are just casual viewers, they are there to be informed, amused or educated, they are not there to compete with you. On Steemit this proportion of voyeurs to opportunists is flipped.

The password issue is a nuisance but overall earned about 544$ and its a benchmark for other sites. Thank the lord i remembered my password, they need to correct some serious issues.

This site doesn't allow you to recover your password. There's no link to recover the password. So, if you have you're earning there, you will never earn it as you can't login again.
