Check reviews before you sign!
My wife and I mistakenly agreed to sign a binding estimate with Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage without checking on their reputation with the Better Business Bureau as well as numerous customer reviews on several websites. Before you sign or pay anything to Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage, do yourself a favor and read the numerous customer complaints. First, you need to know that Southern Guarantee is only a broker, they don’t do any actual moving. Their estimate includes the statement “. . . please read Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move, and Ready to Move Brochure provided by the moving company and seek further information at the government website protectyourmove.gov”.
After reading these documents, I quickly realized there were several red flags associated with Southern Guarantee. First, Southern Guarantee did not provide us a list of the carriers they contract with. Based on customer reviews and photos of damaged goods, I believe this is because they do not want their customers looking them up in advance. The brochure states that you need to check whether the interstate mover is registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and has a U.S. Department of Transportation number. It’s difficult to do that if you don’t know what the company’s name is. As of 13 August, 2022, Southern Guarantee Moving and Storage has 67 complaints and a grade of “F” on the Better Business Bureau website and a score of 1 out of 5 on Yelp. They are not a BBB-accredited business. When I called to ask them me who they had tentatively contracted our move with, they refused to tell me. The second red flag was when their contracted carrier contacted me and stated that he would be showing up in three days (on the wrong date) to start loading and packing. The gentlemen who called me would not tell me the name of his company and stated that they would have our 4-bedroom home packed and loaded in a single day. The third red flag was when I offered to pay the carrier to visit our home in advance of the move to confirm our weight and cubic feet requirements he said it was a waste of time. I later find out this same carrier has 18 years of scamming people out of their belongings and threatening to unload or keep their belongings unless he receives more money. His reputation with at least six different moving companies in at least three different States had been following him since 2004 in New York.
Fraudulent estimate be careful
***REAL CONSUMER REVIEW***Do not go with this they broke binding contract, and you lose deposit if you don’t let them move stuff so you’re in a corner. And they do not care I have attached list for items they were suppose to get and we were quoted for so basically we lost money on this transaction. Call movers directly don’t go with them. We spoke with q&a a couple days before they increased price so we thought we were good as long as we didn’t add items. But no they couldn’t even take all the items listed. I’m honestly disappointed I ignore the bad reviews. Please pay attention to this comment. And I apologize to the lady I was upset with I know she just caught in the scam to. TRUST ME DONT GO THIS ROUTE TRUST. *** They claimed we were getting a good rate bc someone cancelled , they are good sales ppl. Lol *** now we are going to be stuck with a furniture removal fee from our apartment smh
Scam
Scam. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They will tell you whatever you want to hear and will outright lie to get you to sign up. They are a broker, not a moving company. They will quote you the lowest price possible, then take a non-refundable deposit. This money is their brokerage fee, not to pay the moving company. Despite telling you the exact opposite, the actual contract you sign basically says that they don't know when you'll get picked up, they don't know if the moving company will do it for the price quoted, and they don't know when you'll get your stuff delivered. We had a pick up window of 7/29-7/31. We called every day and were told they were definitely arriving the next day. No call, no show each day. By 8/1 we had to make other arrangements to move from Texas to Florida. As of 8/11, we have still had no contact from Southern Guarantee, and we are out $4200. If they have done this to you, file a complaint with the BBB and the FMCSA. If you want to file a claim in court, it has to be filed with the Broward County Clerk of Courts, and the resident agent to be named is Bethany Cook. It will likely do no good, but the more complaints there are on record, the less likely it is that someone else will get scammed.
Worst service ever!!
Worst service ever!!! Dont use this service. Upon arrival to home they more than doubled the price. The gentlemen movers said it happens all the time. Business office then would not answer phone. Kept deposit, poor customer service. DONT USE This Servi

If I could give this company MINUS 5 stars I would. I have been lied to, ignored and this morning I called to request copies of the documents / contracts I signed as they were never given to me and became unviewable after I signed. My phone call was greeted by Jack West in the Philippines who told me once my "load" was picked up they could not give me any of those documents as per company policy. I point blank said, I signed legal and binding documents and your policy is that you will not provide them to me. He said that is correct. I requested to speak with Sam in QA and was told he wasn't authorized to put me through. My first contact was with Nick who of course was impeccable in his customer service. He was able to give us his Managers $700 discount (yeah right) as well as a Military Discount. He gave his personal cell to us and responded to it when we made an inquiry. We gave Nick an estimated inventory and had to put down a down payment deposit of $895.00. Signed and done. Next we were serviced by Tyler. He is the "final inventory" guy but didn't disclose that once he submitted his paperwork no changes could be made so our inventory had items on it that we were not taking and it should reduce the cost. Based on the items removed and boxes added our fees increased (of course they did!) This increase required an addition $314 deposit. Signed and done. We were locked in at the current inventory and price $2409 which was explained to me by Sam in QA. She further explained that she would receive an actual bill of lading by which we would compare and if an adjustment was necessary it would happen at that time. We had issues with the scheduled pickup truck. It broke down so a confirmed pickup is now delayed. I did have assistance from Brittany and Stacy in QA / dispatch trying to find another truck for me. Brittany said a truck had been arranged for the original date. Called trucking company and they told me that their schedule was not updated to reflect that change. She stayed on the phone with me while I called Southern Guarantee and conference call. What a nightmare trying to get through. Finally, Stacy confirmed with me that there was a miscommunication (fancy word for a lie) and that the truck would not be there on the originally scheduled day but rather the next day. When the truck arrived guess what ..... more money needed! My son was told he needed to make a payment at pickup of $1800 and at delivery another $1300. In order to take his child's changing table and a large plastic bin they charged us an additional $340. WHAAAAAAAT? I have a contract..... Oh wait no I don't because I cannot get a copy of it. Paid another $667. It has only been 1 week today. Truck is on its way but no delivery date. The kids had to leave half of their stuff that was on the final inventory. It's flat out a scam. I don't know how people can look at themselves in the mirror. Come in to my parlor said the spider to the fly! Believed the nice guy trying to help me on the phone. And let's not forget the hours spent on the phone trying to get information. I will be working very hard to warn people about this company!!
Horrible Experience
Horrible Experience. It’s been 44 days today since the pickup , they (Southern guarantee moving and storage and their authorized sub contractors ) have not delivered my stuff.
I am still waiting :(
They don’t give any tentative date as well.
Pickup was done on 6/18 , first date of delivery was 6/24 , today is 8/01 and still waiting for my stuff to be delivered.
My family and small kids are suffering :(
I have been living in an empty house from last more than 1 month with my 2 small kids and in a very frustrating situation .
They don't care about customers.
I have done contract with them to move from Tennessee to NC only 540 miles. They keep saying that my stuff is in Georgia public storage.
I am extensively following up from last 2 weeks with them and they are not helping in to expedite .
I am requesting here to Southern guarantee and their sub contractor to help me and my family and please expedite the delivery.
Please think 1000 times before doing any contract with this company.
Absolutely do not use this company
Absolutely do not use this company. I signed with them under the agreement that they were an ownership and operative company and using their own vans— they are not. They are brokers that hire the first available people to move your things. I expressed my initial concern of the previous horror reviews but ultimately decided on them because of the extremely low cost I was offered. I never received a confirmation call. The company they brokered me out to, map express logistics, has even worse reviews than them in the hundreds. I ended up finding a costly last minute alternative and when I called to express my concern and inquire about receiving my deposit back the woman was extremely rude, unempathetic, and irritable. She yelled at me that I will not be getting my deposit back then hung up. DO NOT USE !!!
BEWARE
BEWARE! We are moving my parents to Fl. We signed a binding moving est. on 4/25/22. We were given our list of items (51 pc) for a certain price. We were asked to wait until 7/22 to move bc they already have a delivery in the area.
A week before we received an email stating our move was scheduled for 7/22 & we would receive a call on 7/21. NOPE! We did not receive a call the morning of p/up. When we called customer service, they would say the driver would call us shortly. We waited all day. At 7:30pm, we received a call from the driver. He stated that they just received the request from S. G. Moving & he would not be able to pickup the items until late afternoon on 7/23. Because the new home owners were scheduled to move in on 7/23, we had to move my parents items to the garage & driveway. The driver finally arrived at 5pm. At the time of signing our contract, we were not told of a 3rd party driver.
As they started to load the items on the truck, we realized they had no moving blankets. They only came with wrap. My parent's furniture is wrapped in plastic with no blankets. In addition, they start talking about cu.f. I told them this did not apply to us because we have a set amount. This is when we learned of the scam the company was running. The amount ended up costing $4K over quote. They can't tell us when they will arrive. We were told in April it would be door to door (F-M). Another lie!
When I called to complain about the additional fees & delivery, I was told this company was not Amazon. They had no projection time of delivery. I mentioned the door/door promise .He told me that employee was let go. He said he wasn't responsible for the additional cost. I asked for the owners' name. He said; "you don't go to Chilis & get the owner's name". I asked for his boss' name, he hung up. There is no way they can be rated a 2.73. Moving multiple times in the military and this is the worst. The employee indicated their business is "just fine". I am not sure how?
Scam Moving Company
If there was a zero star rating, they would be a negative 100. Today, I registered a complaint with the Department of Transportation/Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Federal Trade Commission, Florida State Attorney's Office, Texas State Attorney's Office, Maryland State Attorney's Office, and Crockett National Bank. They are officially being investigated by all of the above. They have broken approximately 30 federal laws and I don't know how many state and local laws. We had an unmarked truck with fake TX temporary tags affixed over permanent metal plates. Where I don't know since we didn't look under the fake plates. They represented themselves as an agent for Allied Moving Vans but sent a truck from a moving company that doesn't even operate in TX. If you look at their webpage "about us", there is no mention of them being a broker unless you look at the very bottom of the page where it's neatly hidden with contact information, etc. Fortunately, we didn't let the movers take our belongings. We even had a friend who is a former Green Beret show up and lay down his pistol on our kitchen table to give the driver a message. Apparently, those who serve in the military are subject to being defrauded by these companies on a regular basis. They even withdrew money ACH from my checking account a couple of hours after I fired them. It was a deposit for an item not even listed on their inventory of my house belongings. I could go on and on about the many misrepresentations by the company, but trust me when I state that they are going down, criminal charges will occur, and they will be shut down. There is no way possible that this company can survive after I'm done with them. They messed with the wrong person and one that has connections. Once again, the aforementioned are just a sampling of the many improprieties in which Southern Guarantee Moving will have to answer for in a court of law. If you are going to be a thief, be a good one and know what you are doing. They are so arrogant they have no clue what's coming their way.
Around July 3rd 2022
Around July 3rd 2022, we hired Southern Gaurantee moving and storage out of Tallahassee FL
We went over our move with 2 different people Greg And The Quality assurance guy Michael each time we explained our move in great details. We have a 2 400 SQ foot 4 bedroom 3 bath pool house with a 2 car garage -expensive glass furniture as well as heavy bedroom and living room furniture and about 350 boxes which are already packed up except our glass furniture pics TV's and mirrors packing was supposed to be included in price this is a lie. Ok so, the first guy quoted 6-7 k offering a discount because he actually had a truck in the area that day we agreed schedule our move for July 12 and wired our deposit, Noone showed up instead I got a message saying they are a day out so the next day the 13 was our out date we were in 30 day occupancy so July 13 was our last day.
Our contract stated any time spent in home after t that date would be a charge of 100 day
So 13th 3 guys and their coordinator, show up who stated their company was contracted with Southern Guarantee and they do their own estimate. Wrote up a whole new contract and upcharge u 3 X the original offer, then say they can't move u for 3 week because they weren't prepared for your move due to southern guarantee lack of correct inventory that they passed along so they blame each other then eventually in the end blame you. they are they are rude and manipulative. Who knew an entire farce of a company would teach Narcisstic tactics If Narcissist can be a business they are it.
Today is the 15 the we are still not moved..
Never ever use Southern Guarantee moving Company they have multiple addresses and reps in a few states that I know of. I was supposed to only deal with Greg Johnson out of Tallahassee Florida as my professional moving coordinator this is a lie! He will ditch your calls and then, your tossed to several other agents, that start talking over you not letting you get a word in edgewise. Twisting twisting what really took place by blaming you because after all a truck showed up
They will lie by omission, they will not disclose that they are only brokers or crooks that will lie low ball an estimate on your job promise that the price is locked in but as soon as they get the deposit they contract you out to a moving company they don't even know. Then when u call customer service because no movers showed the day promised, they float u around to multiple people who will lie some more When a carrier finally gets to you 2 days out of contract they will charge u their price through a whole new estimate at a 50 percent increase. If they show up at all. Meanwhile, you are out 4500. Our estimate went up 3 X the amount from 5k to 20k
They will have u wire the money and they don't accept cards???? We really got taken they are a classic bait and switch scam!!!
This company is a scam
This company is a scam. They are a broker pretending to be a mover. They person actually told me he had my non-refundable money and did not care. When they called to to get an inventory count, it was just boxes and no furniture listed. They insisted on adding to the cost to move furniture. The problem was is that I don't have much furniture as I am a elderly widower and live in a small apartment.
I called several times, never ever getting a return call as promised. Only time I got a return call was to upcharge me. Each time they had a wrong inventory list and refused to update it. Then no one showed. I refused to send more money to them. They promised to use a credit card, then wanted cash.
When I called the state office, they are not even legal to operate here and listed. I should have been more careful. Their price match everyone else and the sales person gave me his "personal" number to call about any problems. Never an answer. Lesson learned.
Horrible horrible experience
Horrible horrible experience, this company is a bunch of crooks they take your deposit with out even showing up then add on to your balance ( BEWARE , they won't refund my money..scam scam scam and make sure you read the fine print at the end of your contract ..everything was itemized on the phone then when they called there was only a few boxes on there recipe and no furniture was listed BEWARE
RUN CROOKS THEY ARE THIEFS
RUN CROOKS THEY ARE THIEFS . They show up the second day of there contract of when my house hold was to be picked up with a old torn up box truck that the ramp on the back was missing and the could not load any heavy things that I was charged extra for to be moved. The crooks tell me well they will take what they can carry and schedule another truck later on. I told them no your not just taking part and then coming back for the rest latter on. I have to be in Las Vegas in 4 days . That's why I hired your company, now our contract is for today only pick up not a week from now. he called his boss ELI and got in a argument because Eli was telling him to load some of the stuff and they would work out another truck latter. He told him I will not let that happen and the he started yelling at his boss on the phone told him to F---off got in the old rusted broken truck said sorry and left. they refused to refund my money said they would have another truck there shortly then they called back said that they had nobody to get over hear. They refused to refund my money and said they would give me a credit for a year . I said want a full refund they said. So I had to dump My 42 foot 5Th wheel and took a big hit about 30,000 since I now had to rent a moving truck and load all my stuff myself I had too be in Vegas to start a new job . run do not even talk to these crooks . THIEFS!!!!!!!!!!
CROOKS
CROOKS! I was given a ‘binding estimate’ but at pick up they tried to double the price. Nothing that I was told during the estimate call was true. After calling over and over, I finally got someone to answer the phone. The customer service person, Sam, became very aggressive when I pointed out everything that I had been lied to about. She tried to use the ‘non refundable’ deposit as leverage to force us to let them move our things at the new higher price.
MOVING SCAM
MOVING SCAM. AVOID. I should have listened to the negative reviews. The positive reviews are almost certainly fake. Was given a “binding estimate” of $5568 after giving an inventory to the company. A separate moving company comes out and says they go by cubic feet (which Southern Guarantee did not obtain or warn about), so our 679 cubic feet estimate turns out to be 1500 cubic feet, and our “binding estimate” turns into $10,000. Now we’re already out a $2400 deposit that was paid to Southern Guarantee. They don’t answer your calls during the move. The woman on the phone had the audacity to ask why we didn’t call while the movers were here when they didn’t answer our calls. Oh, not to mention Southern Guarantee doesn’t accept credit cards but assures you that you can use one during pick up and delivery. Was that true? Nope. Moving company requires cash or money order. So angry we got swindled by this broker. Please don’t make the same mistake we did and listen to the bad reviews.
SCAM
This place is a scam and they steal your money and back down from moving you. They have the worst customer service and will not refund your money even if they dont move you.
Go with somewhere with a reputation and do not give these people your money!
Worst move EVER!
Worst move EVER!! It’s a scam company. My move was more than doubled in price. And I only add 3 boxes. Went from 422 cubic ft to 800 cubic feet. They charged me $1500 extra for a truck to come from LA to Santa Barbara. Was NOT suppose TO DELIVER ON Sunday but they did, So I drove 600 miles to get there on time.
I am missing THREE BOXES and I have 3 boxes that belong to someone else.
Big rip off. Warning.
Driver never showed. Told the day of pick-up that there was no driver. (We we’re moving out of state.) The whole time pretended to be hunky-dory.
Costly to make immediate changes. Further more, had to spend additional money to make horse transport date changes, too.
On top of knowing their situation, they charged my account trying to claim “non-refundable”. This company is sooooo full of it. There’s no possible way that these reviews are legit. The American way is to eliminate these type of businesses. Poor business ethics by trying to roll the ball in my corner stating,” For a refund, you’ll need to call your bank……oh, you need to call to get an extension for us to get you a driver…….oh, wait, we might be able to get someone later……our refunds may take up to 90 days”. Bull sh-t, I can’t stand dishonesty. I’m a business owner with plenty of integrity. How dare your establishment think and treat me, as if I’m an idiot.
I warned with a professional conversation, I once sued over $500 because an establishment did the same. By the time I was done, they had to pay $200,000. I saved my contract. This is the perfect place that needs to learn a costly lesson.
I treat clients the way I would like to be treated. With respect, honesty, and integrity. I would expect the same from any other business.
We used this company and was assured…
We used this company and was assured they would answer all our questions and when we would call, we were hung up on or they would say they would be there and never show up for pick up of our stuff. It took four days for them to get our stuff we were quoted a price and it went up 600 on pickup. It took countless phone calls and took them a month to deliver our items. On delivery they charged us 150 more. They went through 3 different companies. Our Tvs were smashed. This is a scam company and i would not use it. They were a nightmare. They positive reviews are from their employees and people they pay to post positive reviews. DO NOT USE THEM. THEY WILL SCAM YOU FOR MORE NONEY ONCE THEY HAVE YOUR STUFF AND THEN MORE BEFORE THEY DROP OFF TOUR ITEMS!!!!!
Do not use this company
Do not use this company. It is nothing but a scam. ask for money upfront to start the move - they don't mention than that any money you put down is non-refundable. they told me the movers will have a scheduled day with a backup day, movers did not show up either day. When I called customer service, they said the money is non-refundable even though no movers showed up which they acknowledged, and they state they cannot guarantee when the movers will be there. Total fraudulent company. stay away at all cost. Taking legal action against this company.
