Helpful understanding and support you to take control of your sleep

My GP wants me to try their program before he can prescribe a new sleep medication. The problem is that the whole program relies on sleep restriction and I have a medical condition that is made much worse by lack of sleep. I've wasted the afternoon emailing them trying to get them to admit that their program can't have the sleep restriction portion removed - this is clearly the case as there are people on Twitter who've been kicked off the program because they can't be sleep restricted safely. They're clearly more interested in getting paid by the NHS than being open and honest about their limitations

Cannot recommend sleep station highly enough. I have suffered from insomnia for many, many years. I joined the programme thinking having tried everything this would be something else that wouldn't work. I kept an open mind, though, and got quite a shock when I went through the sleep deprivation stage, I couldn't understand how this would help. Although it was hard to stick too at first I committed fully to it. I'm so pleased I did, as I am now sleeping about 5 hours a night and find it much easier to fall asleep and also go back to sleep when I do wake up. Thankyou yo all the fantastic sleep coaches whose support has been invaluable.

I was sceptical at the start of the journey, I was sleeping 3 hours a night at best. I was set a routine that involved going to bed late and getting up early. Really how does this improve my sleep I’ll be spending less time In bed? It really does work I now have been 5 and 6 hours in one night after a few short weeks. I would say give it a go what have you got to lose.
I was sceptical about starting the program, not having done anything like this before but I am now very glad that I did. I found the advice and strategies very useful. The sleep coaches could not have been more helpful. I am now able to sleep 'through' most nights and feel positive about the future.

Really helpful advice and support. I was sleeping better after a couple of weeks into the programme. Now I'm off the sleeping pills and I've got my sleep confidance back.

I have been suffering with insomnia since 2019. I was referred to Sleep Station through my GP who had also been prescribing me sleeping pills to help me get to sleep. I totally relied on these pills to get off to sleep. I initially entered the sleep station programme with optimism. The problem for me was the programme relies heavily on the insomniac keeping weekly diaries on how they have (or in my case haven't) slept. Obviously keeping a diary of sleep and awake times relies on keeping an eye on the clock and this did not help me at all. It made me more aware of how little sleep I was actually getting and made me more anxious about it. I tried all of the ideas they emailed me but in the end I simply gave up as it was just making things worse. I am pleased to say that I am now sleeping much better but it has nothing to do with the sleep station programme. I started having acupuncture at a place called Natural Healing in Evesham for a knee problem and during my first session the acupuncturist took my pulse and said to me "Oh dear, you are very tired aren't you". I was astonished at this and then told him about my 6 years of insomnia. He said he'd treat my insomnia at the same time as my knee. 3 days after this (first) session I stopped taking my sleeping pills and I haven't had any since then. That was 3 weeks ago. I can't believe it. I wish I had known that acupuncture could treat insomnia. It has worked for me so I'm writing this review not to put down Sleep Station but to let other insomniacs know that acupuncture may help them as it has done me. Unfortunately Sleep Station didn't help me at all. It actually made me worse but acupuncture has been my life saver.

I was pleasantly surprised with the attention to detail and the professional application of the course. The support was comprehensive and logical. It was easy to understand and the team responded quickly to any questions. Never mind all that though, Sleepstation totally altered my sleep pattern, in a very short time period! I am looking forward to a brighter future, able to sleep fully, confident that sleepstation has provided me with the tools to monitor and alter my sleep as required. Thank you all the Sleepstation team.

After trying a number of over the counter sleeping tablets I went to see my doctor who suggested Sleepstation as an alternative. The Sleepstation coaches who supported me were excellent in identifying my problems with sleep. They offered me a personalised plan giving me regular support and feedback from the comments that I posted back to them throughout the 6 week programme. By adhering to the suggested plans and techniques I feel so much more confident of returning to a normal sleep pattern. I struggled previously with my sleep for over a year. I cannot thank the Sleepstation coaches and team enough for their understanding and support which is definitely enabling me to overcome my problems and perceptions with sleep.

I am completing week 6 with Sleepstation, my final week before the end of the course. I cannot recommend Sleepstation highly enough, it has been truly life changing for me. Prior to starting with Sleepstation I was taking a cocktail of sleeping tablets - with no effect, my average night (if I was lucky was 2 hours sleep), these days I am sleeping between 5-6 hours per nnight. Falling asleep is easy, thanks to Sleepstation. The course is very supportive with clear instructions - I cannot believe how easy I can fall asleep now.

A month ago, I approached my GP for an NHS referral to Sleepstation, as I've been battling insomnia due to anxiety for about a year. Today, my GP called to inform me that Sleepstation had rejected my NHS referral, stating they don't offer their service in my area through the NHS. Out of curiosity, I visited their website to check other clinics across the UK to find out where their NHS services were available. Guess what: nowhere! It appears that their NHS access is just a tactic to lure users to their website, only to push them towards a private subscription. Beware of false promises and be prepared to either pay out-of-pocket or continue struggling with insomnia.

I registered for the sleepstation therapy, paid £160 and completed the online assessment. I was then informed by sleepstation that I was not suitable for the programme. I was not offered a refund. When I enquired about getting a refund I was told it would take 2 to 10 days. It's now been 12 days and I've still not recieved any refund. I've called them 3 times but everytime I call they say they need to check with the accounts department. I think the assessment should be free and if you are suitable then you should be given the option of paying.

I’d had insomnia for so long I felt my body had forgotten how to sleep. The advice from Sleepstation was SO valuable. I understood what I needed to do but for me I followed the advice when the time was right for me. It worked, and one afternoon I knew I’d fallen asleep in the chair one afternoon, something I hadn’t done for Seven years. Gradually I realised my body clock had shifted and I had the confidence to sleep at night using 4,5,6 breathing exercises. Now my sleep is 95% normal and if you suffer from insomnia it’s not an easy journey but I urge you to join Sleepstation as their support and guidance will work for you. It’s not easy but well worth the effort. JaneyT

I was referred to Sleepstation by my GP. To be honest it was a waste of NHS money. I believe the 6 week course is around £300-400
I told them that I am 57 & retired, I go to bed around 10.30pm which is when I’m tired. I get up around 7-7.30am my issue is waking up 3-4 times a night for 10-30 minutes. The recommendation was to stay up until midnight and set an alarm to get up at 6am, I tried this for 2 weeks, I felt worse! I was then tired and irritable during the day. By forcing myself to stay awake until 12am I found I was no longer tired and then had trouble going to sleep and still woke up several times a night. They insisted I stay awake later to ensure I was tired, I explained that I WAS tired at 10.30pm but they didn’t listen. They were very nice and suggested the usual things such as relax, don’t use phones or computers, listen to stories … I’d already tried this. They also suggested getting up in the night and going downstairs for a drink or to read. This woke me up more and then I really couldn’t get back to sleep.
On reading other reviews it seems they make the same programme for everyone. They don’t tailor it to you and don’t listen when it doesn’t work. I found it very frustrating and exhausting after 6 weeks.
I started taking magnesium and within a week I started sleeping great! I told Sleepstation but they poo pooed it. I would highly recommend trying magnesium to anyone who has trouble sleeping. For me Sleepstation was a waste of time. I think GP’s should get more feedback before wasting NHS money.

When my sleepless nights were impossible to control with over-the-counter tablets I discussed the problem with my doctor, who only prescribed some for what seemed to me an extremely short couple of weeks and then referred me to SleepStation.
And that was when everything slowly started to change. With simple but effective personalised advice, Sleepstation boosted my confidence and helped me tackle the problem in the knowledge that their help was always available and that somebody was listening and understanding me throughout those difficult times.
Thanks Sleepstation!

I spent some time thinking about seeking help from Sleep Station (SS) before signing up. I didn't want to get lured into another of these promise the earth, deliver nothing programs that seem so prevalent these days.
I took the quiz several times and each time SS indicated that their program could help.
My GP secured funding from the NHS.
With the program now finished and my sleep scores being worse than when I started, I am glad that I didn't pay for the service but I feel awful that badly needed NHS resources were wasted.
Ultimately, SS was not for me. But this could easily have been ascertained at the outset by SS, who ought to have been more honest that they could not help, rather than trying, and failing to 'fix' my insomnia.
We wasted my time and theirs as well as NHS money.
I made it very clear from the outset that I struggle to stay awake in the evening, that I fall asleep very quickly when I go to bed at my fixed time of 10pm, that I then have disturbed sleep before getting up every morning at 4am as I know that I never sleep beyond this time.
All SS could do with this information was suggest that I have the same time in bed, (6 hour) but at a different time.
They asked what time I'd ideally like to wake up. I responded '6am' as I thought 8 hours' sleep would be lovely. I wish I had never said that. Their suggestion was that I stay up until midnight! Midnight, when I had emphasised the great difficulty of staying up until 10pm!
No worries - they offer 'resources' to help you stay awake. Such as 'reading newspapers or magazines'!! Clearly the people who wrote that particular PDF have never experienced the exhaustion of the really fatigued. If I can't keep my eyes open how do I read?
It became clear that I was being awkward by questioning their 'suggestions'. So I gave it a go. In my case I had to go for a walk outside (in the very cold) to stay awake. I really tried for over a week but it was making me ill and very miserable - and my sleep was no better. Just the same - sleep straight away, a good 3 hours then a bit more dozing before wide awake.
How about 10.30 - 4am? They said. Ok - but why this would make much difference from 10 - 4 wasn't logical. I gave that the full go but my sleep didn't improve. It was worse - probably from the shifted pattern. Then it was back to 10-4, again with no improvement.
And then after a bit of 9.30 - 4 with no improvement the program came to an end. Sleep score worse but no insights into this. No help whatsoever despite my having had to fill in very comprehensive daily dairies. There is no feeling that those dairies have been read other maybe than via technology.
When pushed they suggested I attend a Sleep Clinic.
So - an absolute waste of time.
Other reviews confirm that SS can work. But it doesn't for everyone and far better to filter out those who are unlikely to be able to be helped (big flag - my very fixed previous schedule), rather than mess for a bit and fail.
Irritating (but perhaps just me) - are the awful patronising videos where a lady addresses the audience as though they are 6 year olds. These have to be endured before you can move on.
EDIT The response to review, below, is unhelpful and indicative of SS's methods. Speak a load of positive twaddle but no substance. I went back to my 'support again' to ask for help as suggested but all I got was a suggestion that I try a sleep clinic - whatever that is.
I have replied - "My view is that simply suggesting I go elsewhere for help now that Sleep Station has failed me is very unhelpful. I signed up to Sleep Station in good faith that my insomnia would be helped and it is very disappointing that there has been no help at all. I consistently filled in sleep diaries showing that I had poor sleep but there was no feed back at all on this. At no point did anyone say that they could see that I was struggling or offer some encouragement or hope. All I got were different suggestions for my sleep schedule - then it all ended abruptly with no further suggestions (other than go to bed half an hour earlier) and no insights into why your suggested methods failed for me - just, and then only when prompted by me, a suggestion that I try a sleep clinic - whatever that is.
The reply to my review suggested that there would be more constructive help than 'go elsewhere'.
Sleep Station need a better strategy to deal with those who are not helped by its methods".

I have had 10+ years of chronic insomnia and I have to say I was very sceptical that this programme would work for me. However my sleep is definitely improving- it's still a work in progress. The most effective intervention for me was the sleep restriction, I had implemented most of the other suggestions. Sleep restriction worked to correct my circadian rhythms. But it does mean no more lie ins at the weekends- a price worth paying for better sleep. I also really liked the ongoing support I received and the opportunity to ask any questions and to get a timely response- very helpful. Thank you I recommend this programme

I nursed mum during her last few days last year. After that I was always on high alert and would go a whole night without any sleep. I was left exhausted. I was introduced to sleepstation from my family doctor. My first week I went to bed at 11.30pm and was asked to pick a time I would get up in the morning. I chose 7 am. I found I was going to bed when I was tired. Some nights I had a job to keep my eyes open. My sleep time is now set that I do not go to bed before 9.30pm. I still get up at 7am every day. I tend to go to bed between.10-10.30 pm. My sleep has improved by 100%. It is hard to start with but what is harder? Not sleeping. The sleep coaches are great and Zoe has been so helpful. I was so impressed with the communication to check on me especially in the early days. I am nearly at the end of my time with sleepstation but will keep up all the routine I have learnt. A regular schedule will always help far more than laying in bed having an extra hour then not sleeping. Thank you Sleepstation 😊

I’ve had problems sleeping for many years, often getting no more than a couple of broken hours a night.
I think it’s partly hereditary and also spent my entire working life doing nights and unsociable hours and things were getting so bad that I had to do something about it.
A friend of mine suggested taking a look at Sleepstation and although I was a bit sceptical at first, I really didn’t have anything to lose.
The first thing that you get once you sign up is a whole load of positive, regular advice and techniques to start to turn things around.
Daily sleep diaries not only highlighted just how little sleep I was getting but also help to chart improvements over the course of the treatment.
The one thing I really struggled with was the sleep scheduling that they introduce once they have had an opportunity to review the diaries. I would normally be more than ready for bed by 10pm but in order to extend overall sleep time and to consolidate the individual short sleep periods into a meaningful sleep pattern, it was suggested that I should stay up and awake until 11:45, something I found really difficult to do but persevered and eventually found it became easier and really did work.
I’m almost at the end of the treatment now but can definitely see and feel improvements in the duration and quality of sleep that I’m now getting, leaving me less tired and more refreshed during the day.
Sleepstation doesn’t promise overnight success but, thanks to them, I now feel that I have the tools and techniques to continue improving going forward.
If like me, you struggle to sleep well and find that it’s affecting your health then sign up to Sleepstation. Keep an open mind, be honest with yourself and stick with it.
I strongly recommend the treatment and am truly grateful for their help and support.

Sleepstation does not seem to address my problem of falling asleep in the evening, going to sleep when in bed, but waking in the early hours every night. They suggest going to bed later, when I feel like sleeping early in the evening - how would I stay awake? And then they want me to get up earlier, when I am feeling shattered.
The net result is that my sleep pattern is worse than before, probably because I think about the problem more, which keeps me awake.
