I came across the website by accident and I wanted to buy stuff from but after reading these reviews others posted I decided no to buy from them because they seem total disaster and deceiving people
I ordered seven items from Simon Charles Auctioneers, six of which were clearly marked as postal. However, after the auction, all items were switched to collection-only due to one item not being eligible for delivery. This policy is not clearly communicated and caused me a lot of stress and unexpected expense. I arranged couriers and paid for labels, only to have them turned away because the auctioneer failed to apply the correct labels to the items. Looking at other reviews, it seems I’m not alone—poor communication and unclear postal policies appear to be a recurring issue. Very disappointing experience.
I’ve used Simon Charles Auctions a few times. Sometimes you can find a real bargain, but other times the item hasn’t matched the description or arrived in worse condition than expected. The bidding process can feel confusing, with changes to auction timings and patterns that make it hard to tell what’s going on. Delivery is charged at a premium rate, yet often sent second class. If you’re careful and double-check everything, you can still get something worthwhile — but it’s definitely a “buyer beware” experience.
Basically your paying to remove there crap 99.9% goes to the tip also don't buy the designer trainers and clothes because 80% of that is fake
Bought multiple items in the past 2 months to find products out of date by 3 years, costmetics that have been swatched and boxes advertised and sold as approximately 15 to actually have 5 in it. When emailed admin put tickets together then never heard back from them. Definitely out of pocket and will be avoiding at all costs.
They allocate a slot for pick up, you wait patiently way past the slot time, then a rude and aggressive manager appears to tell us all they are closing. I complained to him and was kicked off their website! Staggeringly bad customer service, they literally don't care. AVOID.
not commenting on the products as most of them are rejects and they just sell what they get in. Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes you loose. all products have standard blurb about being a customer reject unless it clearly says NEW or SEALED. The service is terrible. the waiting queue in Handforth is ridiculous, the booking time slot doesn't mean you get served quickly. they are understaffed and staff doesn't want to work there either. managers don't care. people travel from Preston or Sheffield and still queue for 1.30 hours at the weekend to get served. The whole collection system is a farce - staff run about the warehouse for 10 minutes finding all the products you bought. the bold A to Z rocketman solved these warehousing efficiency problems back in 2000s but these punters at Simon Charles are just stuck in the past. the whole point of booking time slot is so you move the goods closer to the door so when the customer arrives to pick it up it's all in one place already.
Bought a ninja air fryer. Received it in extremely poor packaging and the item is covered inside with mouldy burnt greasy food. You are deliberately misleading the public by not stating this condition or showing it in pictures.
Cannot speak highly enough of Simon Charles. I collect LEGO and this place is incredible. Have purchased lots of sets from here, and although they are listed as untested, customer returns that can't be guaranteed complete, I've never had a set that wasn't brand new and complete albeit the box is normally damaged (which doesn't bother me) I've just recently purchased a big box, which was listed as 3 incomplete sets of the Marvel Avengers tower. After receiving, and sorting through, I was able to make 1 full set of all sealed bags (41 in total) have multiple duplicate sealed bags, and a fair few bags that were open, so have multiple minifigures and lots of spare parts. Saving me £300 on buying the set at retail!
I have been buying from this auction for over 20 years and had some fantastic bargains.
Bidded on an auction for an office chairs, which I won, I understand there maybe an issue with the item as they customer returns
I collected item, and got back home and opened the box to a under desk draw and not an office chair, I reported this back to Simon Charles within an hour of collecting
The response I got was all items are unchecked and can be faulty, they didn’t get the point that the item was not an office chair and was clearly miss sold
Response was there would be no refunds for there mistakes
What a joke this company is
I would stay clear of them
They used to be very honest in the past when they were putting items on auction. Now they will put a new product pictures with some T&C that some part may missing and scam people of thinking they getting a bargain, but they actually get buying broken stuff that will end up on trash. Do not spend money on them, better go to Facebook market.
I wouldn’t touch this company with a barge pole, they KNOWINGLY auction goods that are faulty, have missing parts, damaged, filthy dirty, dangerous, not fit for purpose. I.e. a boxed ninja double stack air fryer, when opened we could see it had been used, full of burnt meat juices, Simon Charles t&cs say it’s bought as seen so therefore there is no comeback, that’s in the bin with my £100. Water feature, damaged, boxed , in the bin, patio set, advertised as boxed, when delivered came in loose pieces, damaged, cushions filthy. No screws , no table included. . ..reclining rattan chair, advertised as boxed had a black bin sack on its head. and it goes on and on and on.
I WOULD NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN. Customer services. Useless. All they would say is it’s in our t&cs.
Asking around, lots of people have said they are a terrible company, I should have asked before I joined 3 weeks ago. NIGHTMARE
I won five bids with them. Out of the five, four were to be by postage and one by collection. I asked them to just ignore the one and just post the four but they utterly ignored and said once one is by collection, all the rest automatically becomes collection only. They robbed me of £63. Worse customer support. She wouldn’t even allow me talk to her manager.
After using a few auction sites, this has to be one of the worst, Its actions seem to be almost scam-like. I'd highly recommend that people avoid using and use better alternatives.
No professionalism what so ever. I was going to be away for a week and kindly asked when to delay the dispatch with only a few days, but they couldn't care less, all they care is about getting their payment. Items were dispatched, delivery was attempted 2 times and now returned back to them. And they want me to pay for shipping again.
I cannot understand the negative reviews about this company. I buy regularly from Simon Charles. Buying at auction is very much sold as seen “caveat emptor”
I have occasionally ( as I am a postal buyer) have bought items and thought “ I didn’t see that in the photo ” BUT the majority of the time I have bought great items at a great price.
The staff have always been incredibly helpful when I have done something stupid like bid on a collection only item when I need postage. They posted anyway. ( thank you )
The only complaint I made was when something was damaged in transit. That wasn’t actually SC fault, their postage and packaging is very, very good and their costs for this are very reasonable
( compared to my own local auction which charges obscene amounts.) However they refunded me with no issues.
I am only sad I don’t live closer as I could bid on some of the collection only auctions.

Be careful buying skin products. I get that they say the items are not checked but when selling cosmetics surely you can spend 2 seconds to check a date. Selling cosmetics that are 8 years past the expiry date is ridiculous. I brought 70 bottles of skin cream and they all have to be thrown away. Very poor service
Brought 2 really heavy items this week went to pick them up and as I am not as fit as a young person, 2 young employees from Simon Charles asked me to stay on the side and they put the 2 Items into my estate car and both of them deserve a 110%, and would not accept a tip, great job thank you lads
