When I set out to find an old friend, it was important to me to work with an ethical service that would demonstrate transparency and had a clear commitment to maintaining the privacy and choices of all parties. From first contact, I found Relative Connections fitted the bill. The processes, principles and costs were explained clearly and in full and there were no changes, delays or hidden charges. Expectations were set fairly and appropriately and all the staff were friendly and understanding throughout, offering as much or as little advice and support as might be needed. My friend was located and contacted by Relative Connections, pleased to hear from me and we enjoyed brief but beneficial contact which enabled us to catch-up and worked well for both. The team at Relative Connections found my daughter very quickly which surprised me as I had tried for months without success. I asked Relative Connections Ltd to find a girl friend who I last saw over 60 yrs ago. I paid up the fee and crossed my fingers, Sue, the intermediary contacted me and I sent all the info that I had on my friend, and within 2 months they had found her. I have to say at this point that it was in May 2025 and both of us were nearly in our mid 80s. Sue spoke to my friend, and she remembered me and she told Sue that she would mull it over.That was the last we ever received. What the problem was I do not know, nor should I, and there still has been no further contact from my friend to the company. I decided to hold back and let things develop, which they did,In December Amanda contacted me to say that she was reviewing some cases and got stuck in straightaway.She reminded me that my friend had mentioned something that I had totally forgotten about, so I know it is all correct and truthful. Amanda is a truly lovely lady who cares not only for her clients but for the people being searched for, and truly wants the best result for both parties.To be honest she made the whole exercise brilliant even though the case has now been held in limbo as the company said that any more attempts at contacting my friend could be construed as being overkill ,which I agreed with
Should my friend feel like contacting the company at a later date the my details will still be available,but I'm not holding my breath. They explained right from the off exactly what to expect and everything went to plan. I did reconnect with my friend. I would recommend them as the whole process was conducted smoothly and (mainly) efficiently. However they lost a star because my friend contacted them the day they received the first letter but had to leave a message. Nobody returned the call and I believe she had to send them an email. All worked out well in the end.

Avoid, higher someone on Ancestry instead.
So far my experience with the company has been poor. In fairness I've given them a complex task but they're shy in providing any progress or updates, unless I contact them. I also doubt they're actually doing any work or research.
Searched began August 2024. Called in September this year asking for an update or some evidence of what they have been working on, was told I'd receive and email, received nothing.
Was emailed by the manager Jake Birchall, who said if I had any questions to email him, (as I'd called the office a couple of times looking for an update) emailed him twice, last week and the week before, also included Claire's email in this chain incase the manager was busy doing nothing. Surprise, surprise, there was no reply.
Called yesterday asked to speak to the manager, was told he was on another call and would call me that day, they couldn't give a time. I had a feeling he wouldn't call and he never did.
Called this morning and asked for an update, which was provided but it's the same update I got in September, no progress, it's with their team of researchers in another country. When asked what company they use abroad, they couldn't provide a name, just "work with experts all over the world".
I'm considering sending my complaint in an email, which I know won't be resolved and then going to the ombudsman etc. We'll see.
All I'd say is it's been 18 months now and they've made very little progress, not to me tion the staff changes that's taken place in that time. Two new staff members have handled my case in 18 months, I only found out when I emailed the company, they don't think to tell you because they're unprofessional.
A lot of fake reviews online, they either post them themselves or outsource it. It's quiet easy to tell. They're are quite a few 1 star views online too, people being scammed essentially.
Seems like a scam tbh so I'd say avoid, but we'll see, it's on going and theres still time for them to do some good.
However, my experience so far is to advise avoiding.
You'd be better highering someone through Ancestry if you're looking to trace a relative online.

First, we acknowledge that the search has taken longer than expected. This is not unusual given the complex nature of your case, the very limited information available, and the international elements involved. Searches of this kind can be extremely intricate.
However as an example of our commitment, we recently concluded a case that took six years to resolve. We never give up on a search, no matter how long it takes or how challenging it becomes. But we do appreciate that waiting for answers can become frustrating.
Your search is particularly complex. Without sharing any personal details, we can clarify that we have not only worked with the limited information provided where even a confirmed name is uncertain but we have also analysed and cross-referenced your DNA results extensively in an effort to progress the search. For this reason, the suggestion that no work has been undertaken is not accurate.
We do accept that updates have not been as frequent as you would have liked, and we agree that more communication would have been beneficial. At the same time, it can be difficult to provide regular updates when no new information has emerged but this is still something we aim to improve.
You also mentioned staff turnover. As a small business, team changes do occasionally happen. However, the core members of our team have been with the company for over 10 years, and the continuity of expertise remains strong.
Regarding the 1-star reviews, we understand your concerns. We acknowledge these reviews, as any business of our size will inevitably have a small number. However, we have been operating since 2008, and over 90% of our reviews are 5-star, legitimate, and verified by Trustpilot not fabricated, as suggested. Our long-standing reputation reflects the genuine experiences of thousands of clients over many years.
Finally, please rest assured that your search is still very much active. Our team in Spain has been in contact with us this week, and we remain fully committed to securing the answers you first approached us for. This was probably a straightforward…
This was probably a straightforward trace for Relative Connections, but very sensitive for the family. For that reason I cannot go into detail. A relative had been absent for many years and the family needed to find him. When contacted initially he was highly sceptical and worried that he was the victim of a scam. It was only the sensitive perseverance of the Relative Connection team, and Amanda in particular, that provided the necessary reassurance. However, Amanda went further and continued to assist in ensuring that all the parties were satisfied and that the reason for the initial trace was properly resolved. This was more than I expected from a tracing agency. This is a genuinely caring organisation.

Let down
£699 for initial search .nothing found. Then £699 for DNA and searches. Told then that to find my birth mother and obtain birth certificates etc further searches by representatives in Ireland are required...another £699.
Then contacted with details of my mother who had sadly passed and that they had found a cousin of mine.
To contact that cousin on my behalf another £699 required. I Then asked for the birth certificate etc and then sensing that I didn't want them to contact my cousin they come up the figure £400 for the certificates. After saying it was included in the last fee
I ordered the certificates myself online for £56 in total.
I challenged them about this £344 mark up and they waffled about a success fee.
Be aware they play on your emotions to get you to part with more and more fees
Should be ashamed of themselves
PS looking at other recent reviews it seems my fees were higher than others..it gets worse!

Thank you for your review. It is disappointing to receive such a negative review after we have completed the work you instructed us to do.
You requested a search in Ireland and agreed to the cost of the service which was to be split over three payments. I would disagree that the initial research didn’t find anything. In fact, it identified that the name/age you had for your relative was incorrect. Thorough research was conducted to establish this, including work done by our research partner in Ireland.
The only way we could identify the correct information was via DNA. This is a more expensive service due to the cost of the test and the amount of research hours required. We agreed to upgrade you to the service for one additional instalment of £699 to your original agreement rather than charging the full difference which would have been an additional £1900.
You were under no obligation to proceed. You did however instruct us to go ahead. We were able to identify the correct information. The next instalment was then processed to instruct our research partner in Ireland to locate her.
This was successful and, as you have commented, identified that your mother had sadly passed away. We asked the researcher to carry out further work to identify a living relative, at no further cost to you. On completion of this further research the findings were reported to you and the final fee was payable.
We offered you two options; First for us to provide you with the documents, a report and family tree at a discount of £399, or, should you wish to have contact with a family member, all of the above and to contact your maternal cousin through our intermediary service subject to the full outstanding balance of £699.
Despite not being paid the final fee your researcher provided you with all of the information identified regarding your mother, which has enabled you to purchase the certificates independently. But to be clear, there is no £344 mark up on the certificates. The final/success fee is our only payment for the extensive work we have done. All the previous payments were used for resources and research hours from our DNA researcher and the team in Ireland, the service had already been substantially discounted leaving us with very little, if anything, left over even if the final fee had been paid.
We pride ourselves on the support we offer clients and we do not play on emotions. We are upfront and transparent about the fees required for our services and if an upgrade to an alternative service is required, we explain why and any associated costs. There is never any obligation to proceed.
You did not agree that you should have to pay the final instalment. In spite of the non payment information was provided to you which enabled you to obtain the certificates, and we assume, continue with the original objective detailed to us.
To be clear, there is no £344 mark up on the certificates. The final/success fee is our payment for the extensive work we have done. Initial payments are used for resources, DNA kits and research hours by our DNA team and the team in Ireland, the service had already been substantially discounted leaving us with very little, if anything, left over even if the final fee had been paid.
You have not paid more than others for the service you required in fact you have paid less as your search was discounted at upgrade. Your case involved DNA research and Irish research. Both services are a different fee to a standard UK search.

Do Not Trust This Company
Relative connections has a 3 stage process.
1. 299 fee to begin a search
2. 499 fee when person is found
3. 499 fee to contact the person as a intermediary process.
I was searching for a family member and was told within a week they had been found, I paid for all 3 costs above and they started the contact. For 3 months I waited to hear back, anxious and sad that the relative had not responded.
After many months I found out the person handling the case (Olivia) had left the company and handed nothing over to the team. When the team looked at it they realised the wrong individual had been found, they then ran a new search for the right person, and in this search found they were adopted which meant they could not contact the person. Had this been done correctly, there would be no need to pay for the Intermediary service, instead, they took an extra £499 for contacting who bloody knows.
There was no apology, no admittance to getting it completely wrong, and the worse part being no sympathy for the distress they put me through.
Honestly if they were honest - they would realise one paid for something that was there mistake.
Do not use them and find other tracing companies.
EDITED 12 NOV: Look at their response, we charged you for a finder's fee however, we would stop when it was an adopted person, but failed to mention they made me pay for an intermediary service when they got the wrong person.
I did not even comment the fact that they did not even call after I tried ringing 4 times, everything over emails, took ages to get in touch.
Guys, own up to your mess. Say sorry and move on.

Whilst we completely appreciate your disappointment your review contains information regarding the service that is simply untrue and therefore I do need to address this.
The service you chose is, as you detailed, charged over three stages. You claim that you have paid for all three stages but this is not the case. You have made only two payments and the remaining payment is not payable since the search identified that the individual concerned was adopted.
After the initial search an individual was identified whose name was a match. As only one birth in this period was registered in the name and only one person was resident in the UK with this name and matching birth month/year we discussed that we needed to contact this person to establish if she was the relevant person. We explained that we could not be certain at this stage and therefore the final payment would not be processed We further explained that, should contact show she was not your relative, the case would go back to the team for further investigation. At no point did we tell you that the individual we had identified was the person you asked us to locate, rather that we had to speak to them to establish either way.
We have no control how long it takes a person to engage with us. We explained the contact process and we adhered to that. She did take some time to respond and for us to be able to verify that she was not the person named on the birth certificate and that she had not been born in the UK. This then verified that the birth certificate related to someone no longer using the name or who had left the country. We were further able to verify that she had been formally adopted.
We then advised you of this and that we could go no further forward with the search. Had this been identified immediately the second payment would have been payable as the research is concluded. As per the T&C’s which you agreed. Ultimately you have paid exactly what is the required payment for the service you selected.
We did not get it wrong, we explored (as any diligent researcher would) all avenues and informed you along the way.
