The 53 year wait was well worth it

The 53 year wait was well worth it. I never thought I’d get in touch with my dearest friend Colin again having us both move on with our lives. To tell him the sad newsof my Brother’s death is all I needed to do , they were such good friends in the 1969 to 1970s but kept in contact by Xmas and birthdays. Many many thanks to you all .

Finally I have the answers I was looking for, thank you Relative Connections

I contacted Relative Connections after years of trying to research myself and not being 100% sure that I was getting the correct information. John at Relative Connections explained the process to me he kept me informed all the way through, he was lovely and easy to talk to . Finding unknown relatives can be emotional but I felt John put me at ease and I would highly recommend using this company. I feel so lucky to have a positive outcome and can finally fill in the missing gaps on my family tree.

The staff at relative connections are absolutely incredible. Sue Harrison was my intermediary agent. I can only recommend her to the highest. Trying to find my mother, after 60+years

I finally decided to try and find my mother, who I hadn't seen since not long after I was born. I had very little information, my father wouldn't talk about her as well as destroying any pictures.
In less than two weeks, I found that my Mother passed away in 1996, but they managed to trace an Aunt. Sue from Relative Connections, and myself were a bit taken aback about how quickly she got in touch. It's early days but, I am gradually going to start discovering about a side of my family that I knew little about.
I've seen some of the negative reviews but can't actually relate them to Relative Connections. I have been informed of the process, along with costs at every step of the way. Also with what is or not possible. It is not a cheap process by any means but if you want to trace long lost family Relative Connections are definitely the people to use.
I can't thank Sue, Jess and Ryan enough. Particularly Sue; for her ability to listen and talk compassionately, whilst guiding me through the process of contacting family who barely remembered me.
Thank you so much and I hope people continue to use your services long into the future.

Dangerous and Irresponsible

They should do a criminal background check on the people they take on as customers, and not take them on if dangerous. They recently contacted me on behalf of someone who is extremely mentally unwell, violent and with a long list of convictions for assault, kidnapping and stalking. And yet they thought it was appropriate to contact me to put us in touch. I imagine a lot of people not in contact with relatives are not in contact for very good reason and they should be far more responsible in assessing cases, and deciding whether or not to take it on. Their contact was distressing for me and upset the sense of safety I have to work hard to rebuild every time this person tries to get in touch. Which sadly is often, despite me having made it abundantly clear we are never going to be in contact.
Additionally they should look into someone's mental health history before taking them on. This person is not only violent to others but is also a danger to himself. He has had many stints in psychiatric hospitals and is prone to attempting suicide and having severe psychotic episodes. BY contacting me on his behalf, my lack of response or rejection could trigger another suicide attempt or prompt him to be violent to someone else etc. Completely irresponsible.

I can assure you that we take safeguarding very seriously, hence why we insist on an intermediary service and never provide any identifying details without consent.
It is not possible to check an individual for criminal records or gain access to anyone's medical history and therefore we always check with the individual first that the contact is wanted and/or appropriate. This is made very clear in our correspondence and therefore I am surprised, if you have been contacted by us, that you do not seem to be aware of this.
If the subject of any of our searches advises us that there is a legal reason that our client should not be searching for them or that our client searching for them causes them concern for their safety then we will always support them and provide guidance on what steps to take and fully comply with police should the matter need to be reported to them.
It would be irresponsible to provide a client with an address or other means of direct contact but we do not do that and we state that clearly in any correspondence.
Whilst I do not know who you are I am going to assume that you have not responded to our contact attempts and I therefore cannot offer you any reassurances or guidance directly. I am also unable to take preventative measures and warn the client of the potential legal consequences should they try again via any other agency.
I am sorry that our contact has caused you distress but hope that it at least has enabled you to take the required action now you are aware that he/she is making attempts to locate/contact you.
If you do wish to discuss this, in complete confidence, then please do reach out to us. We will then be able to flag that it is inappropriate for the client to make any further contact attempts via ourselves.

Great friendly service

Great friendly service. My search was undertaken with scant information, slowly but surely the search for my father took shape. The final outcome was that the father I had searched for nearly 40 years has been found!!! I could not have done this without the service that Relative Connections provided.

Professional and friendly service.

I am a lawyer and regularly use tracing agencies for debt collection and servicing purposes, but when it came to tracing my wife’s father, who she had not seen for over 40 years they all failed to find him. I then contacted Relative Connections and they traced him in a matter days. They are more expensive than the other agencies I use regularly, but the age old adage of “you get what you pay for” certainly applies here and the end result was worth every penny. My wife and her father are now reunited and our only regret is that we did not find Relative Connections sooner. The service was thoroughly professional from start to finish. Scammers

Scammers. Avoid!
I asked to trace a person and was told it would be £250 initially and then another £250 after the search was complete. They could only pass details to a solicitor.
I approached several solictiors and they said they would only use their own tracing agencies and not one I had chosen.

I asked Findermonkey for a refund and they refused!

That invoice number does not relate to our company and we are Relative Connections nor Findermonkey.

You have provided us with nothing for us to validate that you are a genuine customer despite us having requested the information via Trustpilot and our original response to your review.

All of our services are clearly explained without obligation BEFORE a client commits.
You dont specify what service you required (and the payments you mention don't seem to relate to any particular service we offer) but if you are a genuine sevice user then you would have been aware before proceeding that the information could only go to a solicitor if that is what the chosen service required.
Therefore you would have been fully aware before you commited and engaged us to carry out the work that we would not provide the information to you directly.
We have hundreds of repeat clients who use us for services where the requirement is for the information to go to a solicitor, none of them have any issues with their solicitors accepting the information.

We would still be happy to provide the information to a solicitor if we have carried work out for you, but we cannot refund you for work that you requested and that we have already completed. I am unsure why you would expect to be refunded. We haven't refused to provide the information, you have not provided us with a means to do so.

Sad to say this company has not come up…

Sad to say this company has not come up to what I expected, lack of contact having to keep chasing them up phone calls emails left unanswered, making excuses after excuses why something can’t be done, or I’m not allowed information they have found , turning the fault on me because I paid and expected results of some sort. I have requested proof of the paperwork they have supposed to have done and submitted on my behalf along with my letters they assure me have been passed on, they refused to supply any paperwork which they hold relating to my case, I find that odd., I was under the impression that I am the only customer to complain about this company, Sue Harrison is the person who dealt with my request she claims that I did not asked this company to find my granddaughter who was 18 May 2024, but I requested they find where her mother was living, this was and still is not true,
I have requested paperwork to show that they have contacted her mother not my granddaughter, I feel as a paying customer I am entitled to see proof of what my money has bought me because in my opinion it’s been a complete waste of my money, I am sure Sue Harrison will have all the excuses to cover it over, and blame me, As I am I touch with another company who has been shocked with my experience of this company they should think themselves lucky to have 2 stars, Janet from Birmingham
Reply is just another example of their whitewash and passing the buck onto the paying customer , they were asked to pass on my granddaughter’s address to my Trust Will company ( not to me) to up date the paperwork, unfortunately they didn’t and haven’t done to date that either, of which this company can clarify, I hope many people will be reading this experience and be on guard, they sent me a photo proof of delivery, and signings which looked like a spider had be squashed on it , so amateurish.
Just an add on if this company wants to discuss your case by phone,, please make sure you record it yourself because the lie they used on me of which I have repeatedly challenged supposedly is on tape, I long to hear it,

To say we are disappointed in your review would be an understatement.
We have consistently tried to support you through this process, but you have consistently demanded that we do things that we cannot do despite us clearly explaining on multiple occasions what we cannot do and why we cannot do it.
You did initially ask us to locate your granddaughter but after doing so you advised that you believed there was a possibility she had been adopted (which later transpired to be a fact) .

We immediately advised you that we could not/would not therefore search for her as this was not a service, we provided but offered to, instead, locate/contact her mother which you agreed for us to do.

We completed this work and during the contact stage (after there had been no response to the initial letters to her mother) you complained that you knew this would happen (despite agreeing for us to do this) and began insisting that we locate/contact your granddaughter. Despite us repeatedly explaining to you why we cannot search for or contact an adopted person you persisted in demanding that we did and insisting that you had paid us to do so.

To be clear we will not compromise the company, our staff or our reputation because someone demands we do. We will not disrespect the laws that are in place to protect individuals who have been adopted just because someone demands that we do.
You have been provided with Royal Mail proof of delivery showing that our letters to your granddaughters mother were delivered. The final one of those letters contained your own contact details so if they are happy to have contact they can reach out directly. I am assuming that she has chosen not to, as is her right.

I can only hope that the company you have now engaged and who is “shocked” at your experience are Ofsted Registered Adoption Intermediary’s and that they are correctly licenced to search for an adopted person and that they will conduct an intermediary and provide support to your granddaughter. Under no circumstances should any company be providing you with an address for an adopted person without that persons consent.

If refusing to break the law and refusing to disrespect your granddaughters rights warrants us being labelled as a “shocking service” then I will accept that label.

You say “Sue Harrison” will have all the excuses. Well Sue here and I don’t have excuses I have facts. We are upfront about what we can do, can’t do, will do and won’t do. If the outcome isn’t as you would have liked then that does not mean we have not done our job and does not give anyone the right to demand we break the law.

Regarding your recently added further comments
See my previous response for all the reasons I will not give in to your demands to provide an address for your granddaughter, these haven’t changed. If you genuinely require the information for a Trust then I am certain that the company responsible for your trust would be more than happy with the details of your granddaughters mother. They only require a means to make contact (directly or indirectly) in the event that the trust needs to be executed. As for the , frankly ridiculous, complaint about the quality of the signature on the Royal Mail Tracking. Well I’m not sure why you hold us responsible for this. I suggest taking that up with Royal Mail.
I will not be making any further responses here to any further comments you make.
You have tried on numerous occasions to “force” us into contacting your granddaughter. Whilst you may not respect her rights as an adopted person we do and so we will not be doing this.
I think any rational person can already come to the conclusion that we have done all we can within the boundaries of the law but it is very clear that, unless we bow to your demands to break the law, you will be unhappy with our service.

Unprofessional, cannot take critisism

RC were hired to find my unknown paternal great grandfather. After 20 years of doing my own family history I was very saddened at their lack of expertise. It was presumed by John that becuase I had two cousin matches with a particular family that their grandfather must be mine. He wasted 6 months getting a lady to test who turned out was not even related to me and I even told him I thought he was on the wrong track, but he kept going on about establishing baselines. These two cousins quite evidently were related already to my grandfathers maternal line which I could see from all the DNA matches but he never noticed or picked up on this, I had to point this out as well as the correct line he should have been following. Yes we all make msitakes, but he spent 6 months chasing a presumption, there was no signidicant analysis of the DNA in the first place and when asked RC to provide proof of this it was never forthcoming. John is not from what I can gather a professional or qualified genealogist. Even when I complained I got one fo the researchers to handle the complaint. All very in house, you could say biased being as John was a founding member of RC and on the management team. He told me I could not have a refund, in the end I ended up with half of what i had paid out back. Not very professional at all and they ceratinly do not like to admit mistakes and they ceratinly did not like the fact that I knew what I was talking about and did not do proper in depth research you would receive from any professional genealogist or genetic genalogist and I've worked with many. They ended up sending me copies of telephone calls with them which is utterly ludicrous and asking why I let John carry on on this track if I thought he was going in the wrong direction. Well mostly that is because RC were paid and hired to do the job and take the lead, they are the ones who are supposed to know what they are doing and be experts. What is totally wrong is when you call their number they do not specify that they are recording your calls but they are and do. This is not transparent or being honest now is it. Neither is when I never received an invoice or recipt for the two payments I made.
I did tell John he was going wrong and it was like water off a duckie's back. Six months of my time wasted, nothing to show for it and £700 out of pocket because of RC. All John did over that 6 months period was make a few phone calls, send out some letters and post out a DNA test.

My advice to anyone is to be very wary of this company and save your money and find yourself a genetic genealogist or DNA detective who knows what they are doing and do not rip you off as this company does not like critisism or giving refunds, be AWARE, be VERY AWARE.

Whilst I appreciate you feel disappointed I feel your review is selective in what you mention and also contains some wholly untrue accusations.

Any number you call into this office states that calls are recorded. This has been the case for several years and so would have been the case from the point you enquired with us and throughout your search. So your claims that we are not transparent or honest about recording calls is completely untrue. The calls were sent to you to help you "recall" conversations you had with John thoroughout the search that were contradicted in your complaint in which you demanded all of the money you had paid to be refunded.

Our consultants advised from the start how the process worked and that the time to complete the work would be dependant on the matches available. DNA investigation includes eliminating lines in order to verify lines.

John discussed each line of investigation he intended to follow and you agreed with each at the time, later claiming that you knew all along that the line of investigation was irrelevant, naturally we would wonder why you would not mention this if you had already reasearched that line and identified this Surely you would not have wanted us to waste the valuable resources on a line of enquiry you now say you had already investigated?
The particular line of investigation you refer to did transpire to be unconnected to the paternal line, but this could only be identified after investigating it and testing the line of origin. In the course of this part of the research you blocked our access to your DNA matches and later confirmed that you had instructed other parties to look into your DNA.

We had been working on your case for a number of months, this wasnt unusual given that you are searching to identify a Great Grandfather and that the available matches were relatively distant and so a large amount of genealogical work was required.
We were clear from the offset that this was not an uncomplicated search and would almost certainly not be a fast one but clearly you were not happy with the time scale.

We provided a goodwill gesture of a refund of half of the funds you had paid up to that point. A considerable amount of work had been done and we had not been given the opportunity to complete the work rather than us being unable/unwilling to do so. We waived the remaining balance as well as providing a partial refund and agreed to close the case.
I can assure you that Johns work did not consist purely of him making a few phone calls and posting out a DNA kit but for anyone reading this who has experience of DNA genealogy that would be apparent, maybe when you don't have experience that is the assumption.

Despite all of this we genuinely wish you the best with your ongoing investigations and hope you find the answers you are seeking.

If you can’t find someone, contact this company.

I have been trying for eight years to find a long lost friend and the search has been very frustrating. I contacted Relative Connections and explained what I was hoping. They put a simple hint in their first letter to my friend as to who might be looking for him. Firstly they found him in a few days. Then very soon I had a phone call from Jess ( who has been fantastic) to say that my friend was delighted to hear I have been searching for him and we will be in contact in the near future. I couldn’t believe how quickly he was found and I am telling everyone about it.
I strongly recommend that if anyone needs to find someone they should contact Relative Connections.

Relative Connections found a "lost"…

Relative Connections found a "lost" relative who for various reasons was very difficult to locate.
After normal mail and other actions drew a blank, our advisor took the initiative to search for and find neighbours and other potential contacts of our cousin. Our cousin's health challenges made normal methods risky and without that "extra mile" I don't think we would have found him and then been
at a loss to know what more to do.
The courteous consistent effort paid off. Thank you!!

Despite requests for an update by email and telephone, why have I heard nothing for 10 months since Relative Connections accepted my request and payment of their fee in January 2024? How does this square with their claim to maintain good communications with their clients?

Finding mothers Birth certificate for Irish passport application.

I needed to Find my mothers birth certificate & other details who was born in Ireland in the early 1940s só that i can apply for Irish citizenship, & she hás been dead for many years & i would never of found out all the required documents needed to do do. Relative Connections done an absolutely fantastic job in finding all this for me. A Big thank you must go to Jess who kept me updated with the ongoing process on a regular basis! I would recomend Relative Connections to anybody who were very thorough & much quicker than i anticapated.

Traced my grandad

Relative Connections were upfront about the costs from the beginning. They were very good with communication and keeping me up to date with their findings. Unfortunately my grandad passed away when my Dad was 5 so we'll never get to meet him. Relative Connections kept preserving with different angles to help to try and get my Dad some answers. good all round,helpfull in more ways i can think off, found my sister after not seeing her for over 40 years,with in a week they got back to me with her phone number,phoned my sister & all is fine,alive, thank all for your help & kindness.
