Had an amazing experience climbing Hellvelyn. The whole team were really knowledgeable and made the whole thing so comfortable. Would definitely go again and recommend to anyone!

What an incredible experience! I signed up to hike Helvellyn with pioneer mountaineering thinking it would just be a standard hike like all the others, but it’s was 10x better than I could have expected. The group we went with was amazing, the entire trip was the perfect combination of fun, educational, safe and supportive, and the guys went above and beyond to make sure each person had the best time. It was also the perfect intro to scrambling. I’ll definitely be joining them again in the near future. I can’t recommend this enough!

I did my first ever group hike with Pioneer Mountaineering and I’m so glad I did! I was very nervous beforehand but as soon as I met everyone they were super friendly and put me at ease straight away. Couldn’t recommend going with these guys enough, keeping you safe on the mountains along with teaching you all sorts of safety and skills. Joined the group on their Helvellyn treck this weekend and what a good day it was. Not just a hike, but a day full of learning, building knowledge, learning about mountain safety, and meeting like minded people who have come together to do what we all enjoy. No egos, just good vibes all round. Highly recommend

I’d told them beforehand that I was nervous about the hike, and from the very beginning they were so responsive, helpful and supportive. They gave me so much confidence before we’d even met or started the hike.
Once we were up there, I instantly knew I could trust them to get me safely across the ridges. I had a few wobbly moments along the way, but their patience, encouragement and support helped calm me down and get me through them. Honestly, I don’t think I could have done it without them.
If you’re looking for group hikes with experienced, knowledgeable, kind and patient guides, look no further. Pioneer all the way! 🥾⛰️🙌

If I could give more stars I would! Nathan, Luke and Frankie are the loveliest team, and made our girls group hike up scafell pike feel safe, comfortable and reassured the whole time. You guys absolutely smashed it and I’m looking forward to hopefully join you on another one soon!

Nathan was an outstanding guide for our Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, and we couldn’t have asked for better support on the day. Four took on the walk as a memory challenge, and thanks to Nathan’s guidance, pacing, and encouragement, they completed it in 11 hours and 46 minutes — a result we’re incredibly proud of.

From start to finish, Nathan was calm, cool as a cucumber, and completely on top of every detail. His knowledge of the route, his ability to keep spirits high through the tough sections, and his genuine care for our safety and wellbeing made all the difference. He struck the perfect balance of pushing to reach our goal while making sure we were safe and supported every step of the way.

We can’t recommend Nathan highly enough. If you’re taking on the Three Peaks, do yourself a favour and go with Nathan as your guide — he’s brilliant at every aspect of what he does.

We used Pioneer Mountaineering as our leaders for a charity walk I was organising. They were professional throughout, but also personable, friendly, knowledgeable and very supportive. Three ascents of Snowdon in daylight in a single day was a tough ask and they guided all of us through it across the full 14 hours on the mountain. Luke and Nathan really did a fantastic job and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or to recommend them to anyone.

I booked onto the Carneddau range hike because I didn’t want to do such a long hike alone. It was a fantastic experience with a small group of strangers (I was the only woman but that didn’t matter at all) Nathan was very attentive and walked with all 5 of the other hikers - he never left anyone alone at the back and had a good knowledge of the mountains and the area. I look forwards to booking with Pioneer again.

Pioneer Mountaineering gave me the opportunity as a trainee mountain leader to shadow their very experienced, knowledgeable ML on a group walk.

Not only was was Nath a fantastic mentor, who passed on lots of his knowledge and wisdom, but he made sure the entire group had a great day throughout. It's great that the company are committed to supporting and developing new leaders, and are so enthusiastic about helping people of all experiences have a great time outdoors. The Pioneer Mountaineering Team organised a half-day hike in the Peak District National Park for a group of 44 students from Poland. Based on my request stating the desired length and level of difficulty they prepared the whole plan, sent me a detailed description of the activity together with a map, list of necessary things to pack and an emergency response plan in case anything goes wrong - super professional. They have an AALA Licence which makes them the right people to organise and lead such projects. On the day of the hike the group was welcomed with great enthusiasm by all the 4 leaders - Nathan, Ben, Matt and Geraldine, and set off for the hike in smaller groups. The leaders were fantastic with the children, taking the time to talk with them, answer their questions, and keep them engaged throughout the hike. Their passion for the outdoor was contagious, inspiring curiosity and helping create a memorable experience for the students.

I took part in a hill skils walk during the BMC Big Hiking Weekend, led by Luke from Pionner Mountaineering. We learned navigation skills and then put them into practice. Luke also showed us what we should always pack and take with us on every hike. We also had the opportunity to try out some rescue equipment. It was a very interesting and informative hike. Luke is a great leader with a wealth of knowledge and passion. I highly recomend Pionner Mountaineering

I went on a Hill skills day with Luke from Pionner Mountaineering. Over the day we went over navigation skills; use of map and compass, features on the map, taking a bearing and micro navigation. We all got to try out our skills and Luke ensured we understood what we were doing. Another part of the day was use of emergency equipment, what to pack and how to use it. I have carried round some of this and had not thought about trying it out to make sure I knew what to do with it.
Great range of knowledge and enthusiasm for teaching us these skills. I certainly feel more prepared for my next hikes. Absolutely brilliant day.

I attended a hill skills day workshop with Luke in the Peak District and it was such a brilliant day, learning some of the basics of navigation and important safety & survival skills for when things go wrong on a hike. Really enjoyed the day, and definitely feel more prepared for days out in the hills now 🙌
