Trustpilot Review – OfferUp Allows Scammers to Steal from Sellers
I sold an Apple iPad Air M2 (2024 model) for $600 using OfferUp’s shipped transaction feature, believing their purchase protection policy would protect me. Instead, I got scammed, and OfferUp did absolutely nothing to help.
🔴 Here’s what happened:
I shipped my iPad in perfect working condition using OfferUp’s prepaid shipping label.
The buyer falsely claimed the iPad was defective and requested a return.
Despite zero proof from the buyer, OfferUp approved the return without my consent.
When I got the package back, it was an empty USPS envelope—the scammer kept my iPad and got a full refund!
I immediately reported the fraud to OfferUp with proof, but their support team refused to investigate and told me the case was closed.
⚠ Sellers, BEWARE!
OfferUp’s policies favor scammers and offer no real seller protection. Their return system allows fraudulent buyers to abuse the platform, claim false defects, and steal high-value items without consequences. Once OfferUp refunds the scammer, they don’t care what happens to the seller.
🚨 Avoid shipping anything valuable through OfferUp. You could lose both your item and your money. 🚨
I have since filed a BBB complaint, a police report, and am pursuing legal action. OfferUp must change their policies to protect honest sellers, or more people will continue getting scammed.
