Has absolutely no loyalty towards its staff.
This company does not value its staff at all
Ever since the introduction of the framework system in Northern Ireland, work has essentially dried up with only the odd ED or chemotherapy shifts remaining.
We knew this was coming but were 'reassured' by the Guild who were largely dismissive, stating they were not worried. They were fond of saying; "If there's no work for you guys then there's none for us and we'd lose our jobs, but we're not worried."
It soon became very apparent why they weren't worried - they have Southern Ireland!
A quick peek on social media reveals a total disregard to Northern Ireland. Ever since work has dried up they have focused entirely on the South, posting in abundance about hiring new staff and their 'excellent payrates.' Northern Ireland has all but been forgotten.
Curiously however, despite the lack of work, they offered a £2.00 an hour payrise. Talk about dangling the carrot......
Southern Ireland must be very confused as to why they're suddenly centre of attention, as historically they did not receive much.
The conclusion? No work = no interest from the Guild. How utterly disappointing, hurtful and disrespectful.
They are no doubt not even bothered we've all left because they're still gainfully employed and receiving their full salaries, whilst we have been forced to take a paycut with the framework agencies.
Enjoy it whilst it lasts, Southern Ireland........

I used to work for the guild but then…
I used to work for the guild but then took a break from it i recently rejoined and have had nothing but hassle with payroll I submit my timesheets the night I finish my shifts but twice now I’ve had to phone payroll and speak to someone I can barely understand to be told there’s been an issue and it’s not being processed and your now not getting paid till a week after you work the shift and that’s only if you phone to check there’s no problem despite the automated email saying it was received they said I was sent a text to say it wasn’t clear but I received no such text or I would have actioned it immediately definitely not the same guild it used to be fed up having to fight to be paid for shifts that you have worked hard on I’m now looking at other agencies
Joined the Scottish Nursing Guild 6…
Joined the Scottish Nursing Guild 6 months ago after leaving my NHS post. Was the best decision I made. I choose my own hours and days I want to work. The pay rate amazing and conditions excellent. Working for SGN enables you to have a better work life balance. Best decision ever!!!
The nurses are great BUT ...
We love the nurses, hate the credit control / finance department of the Scottish Nursing Guild. We have had 5 nurses for overnight shifts over the last year or so when our severely disabled son's regular carers were unavailable. The nurses have been absolutely brilliant (apart from one who couldn't find our house, and spoke so much nonsense when she finally arrived 50 minutes late that we absolutely couldn't trust her to look after our complex needs son, we would not have got a wink of sleep from worry about the safety of our child in her care.) So thank you to all the wonderful nurses who have looked after our son beautifully and provided fantastic respite care and peace of mind!
However, we have had invoice problems every single time we have asked for the Guild nurses. Problems have ranged from incorrect invoice amounts which were then increased (after we had already paid) without explanation or apology, to repeatedly being billed for shifts we had already paid for. (We were charged £350 for the nurse who arrived 50 minutes late and was completely unfit to look after our son, by the way!) The level of stress we suffer after each nurse's visit due to the finance department is completely off the chart, especially because we only ask for help when we are already in desperate need.
The credit control/ finance department just seem totally incompetent. We now think very long and hard before we ask for a nurse from the guild because we know there is ALWAYS a problem with the billing and we will be emailing back and forth for days / weeks afterwards trying to sort it all out. Plus they never put a contact number or named person on their emails so every email seems to be from a different person with no idea what has happened previously or clue how to fix the problem. The fees the guild charges are so high, typically £900+expenses for a single 10 hour overnight shift, which takes a massive chunk out of our son's monthly care budget, that we would expect much, much better service.
Overall, the nurses have been fantastic, but the finance department causes such a huge amount of distress every single time we ask for a nurse, we are at the point now where we basically feel it is no longer worth asking for help from the Guild, even when we are on our knees and absolutely desperate for help.
08.03.23 Follow up post.
After this initial review we received 2 follow up calls from a customer service representative last week who was very sympathetic, and who listened to our concerns (thank you!). He promised to look into our recent account issues. After doing so he said he would write off the second (slightly higher) invoice this time as a sign of goodwill - we did not ask for that, but thank you, we do appreciate that as it means more money left in our son's care budget for the month for his care. However we have again today received an anonymous email from the finance department with attached invoice for the original (slightly lower) amount and a credit note (not a receipt) with no further explanation. Confused!? So we are left thinking is the invoice still outstanding? Has it been finally settled? (we paid it weeks ago.) Is the credit note receipt of payment or to be applied to the next transaction? How do we process this in our financial records?
We are not accountants, obviously. But we are exhausted with all this. We really wish we could just pay a correctly drawn up invoice in the first place and receive a receipt for the same amount a few days after we pay. Just once, Scottish Nursing Guild, please?
Not worth the effort, too many restrictions
They take all your details and wait until you are vetted on the phone to say they won't accept experience or references from New Zealand. Absolutely ridiculous.

The Guild are the best agency out there…
The Guild are the best agency out there that actually looks out for their staff.
I started working with the Scottish…22nd July 2022
I started working with the Scottish nursing guild in July. I left my full time job so I could have the flexibility. The support from the guild has been more than I expected. Great company to work for. Best decision o have ever made in my 23 years of full time care employment. Would like to mention a special staff member Neil Balch who has went over and above to support me. Such a pleasant guy to deal with. On the ball at all times. He has made my journey so far with the guild very easy.
Loved working for this agency..
Loved working for this agency in Northern Ireland. I have worked with a few agencies and they are by far the best!
Easy process to get started and its so easy to book shifts on the app! The staff have great time for you and are so friendly on the phone. Great pay with perks, lots of shifts. When I'm back in Ireland I hope to work with them again!
Retired from nursing as a trained nurse…
Retired from nursing as a trained nurse and applied to SNG as a CSW. Cannot get past the first stage because they insist I work 6 months in the same area as a CSW on the nurse bank in order to provide a suitable reference. They tell me this is to meet with their standards/expectations, specifically to 'guarantee the quality of staff they place with clients'.
I have no problem providing references and have a wide and varied experience to offer, so I just can't see what this has to do with references which can be provided and experience which I have in abundance. I work on the bank for the enjoyment of working when and where I wish to work, not to prove myself as able.
SNG used to have a good name but perhaps it is going in the wrong direction if their only expectation is that I work 6 months in a single area to obtain an appropriate reference to, as they put it, maintain their stated reputation.
The guild will waste your time if you are a CSW
i am a clinical support worker who has worked for over two years in SHDU. When i first started 6 months in i applied for the guild and they refused to interview me due to me working within a surgical high dependency department so i then just joined the bank. A year goes past, and the Scottish nursing guild recruitment team reach out to me with an email saying that i am able to apply again due to needing more staff, i emailed back straight away asking if im still able to apply as i still work in SHDU and the recruitment team replied yes that i am able to apply. I apply, pass the screening call, the interview and all off the tests that you have to do. After a while sending my references off, i get an email to say i was unsuccessful due to working in surgical high dependency unit like they said before. I called the guild and explained that they contacted me, and they have wasted 2 weeks of my time completing everything they asked me to complete knowing i worked in surgical high dependency unit from the first initial screening call even though. Throughout this time i was completing my application i was emailing someone from the recruitment team every week to find out the status of my application and what my next steps were (them knowing i work in SHDU).To them nursing assistants in SHDU/ICU don't do the same care as ward nursing assistants do which is madness as i work on the NHS bank in general wards, i get moved on multiple shifts to help around the hospital due to being short staffed. Within my job i assist with personal care, monitor diet and fluid intake, keep a clean and organised environment, assist with catheter, stoma and wound care, remove cannulas, monitor blood sugars, obtaining specimens such as; urine, stool, sputum and wound swabs, carry out ECG's, venepuncture, providing basic life support and obtaining measurements such as height, weight and vital signs, but to the Scottish Nursing Guild this didn't seem enough for them even though they reached out for me to apply, very disappointing especially when you call to get an update and someone tells you your 99%there just waiting on your references to be accepted.

I love working with Scottish Nursing Guild. The rates are excellent. The staff are very helpful, they always find work to suit me. I have worked with other agencies in the past and sng are by far the best. I cannot praise them enough.

It's a pity they discriminate against nurses and midwives who have taken maternity leave within 18 months prior to joining. Not really great for an agency who are supposed to support nurses and midwives
