Great experience

Great experience. Easy to order. Received promptly. Directions are easy to follow. Just collect the water sample and mail it back. We were updated as results were processed. Results were given in a format that was straightforward to understand. Would use again.

Important test results for water wells …

I’ve used SimpleLab for testing outputs from wells at 2 of my houses: in New Mexico and Maryland. The results from these tests have been important in designing what kinds of filtration are necessary for producing quality water for all uses. The tests were critical to ensure that we have a water supply that meets necessary specifications

I needed to test my well water because…

I needed to test my well water because my doctor suspected it might be a cause of my heavy metal toxicity. I'm relieved to say it's not, but I'm impressed with the thoroughness of the test I used. It picked up small amounts of metals but also had a comparison to other tested wells and mine ranked very high compared to most. It's a sad commentary on the state of our ground water that most people's wells contain noticeable levels of toxic chemicals and heavy metals from big ag and mining operations. Perhaps if they were published, it may make people think twice before hosing down harmless weeds with glyphosate. We're poisoning ourselves. But anyway, the test was easy to perform, I didn't have to wait long for the results, and they were relatively easy to understand so that's why I gave 5 stars.

Helpful for testing my well water

Helpful for testing my well water. Easy to use instructions and got my test results on time. Installed a new filter system to correct the issues identified and my results were much improved when I tested again a year later. I will continue to use tap score to test my well water every spring.

Be sure to compare the results to both the Health Guidance Level (HGL) benchmarks created by TapScore and the MCL/MCLG regulatory requirements. I panicked when only looking at the HGL because it indicated I had big problems that weren't going to be easy to fix. My filtration system guy pointed out that those problematic results were only trace amounts that were still below regulatory levels. Striving to meet the HGL benchmarks and "perfect" water is a nice goal, but in reality I had to accept that meeting the MCL regulations and having good/acceptable water was my only feasible option.

I had a very good experience with this…

I had a very good experience with this company, very easy to follow the information and good customer service when I had a couple of questions. I'm glad I got my water tested because there was a little bit of lead and a few other things, and no amount of lead is considered acceptable. Even if nothing had been found it was totally worth it for the Peace of mind.

Helped us keep our toddler healthy

I've used Tapscore three times since buying our house in 2022. I'm new to having a well, and since we have a toddler, we wanted to make sure that our water was safe to drink. Tapscore has provided valuable information that the local "water guy" can't, and we were able to install a reverse osmosis system after our most recent test revealed uranium in the water (!!!). I've already recommended Tapscore to family and neighbors to keep them healthy.

Comprehensive and simple water testing

Their water analysis system is comprehensive and very convenient to use. I used both the general water analysis as well as their test to determine bacterial contamination. The company provides very clear directions and makes taking the sample and returning it for analysis very easy. It provided all of the information that I needed to make the right choice on installing a water purification system. I will definitely use them in the future to monitor the performance of my new system.

Water testing made simple

Water testing made simple! Even for Canadians (you do have to pay for shipping, but for what we wanted tested it was still better than what was available locally). The kits are nicely organized and easy to follow. And if you do happen to have any questions (before you even order, all the way through to getting your results), their customer service is fantastic! I honestly can't say enough about how thorough, and helpful the responses have been. These people know their stuff, and you can continue your conversations with them, days or weeks later without missing a beat as the chats are still all there for reference; no bots, no generic replys. Answers tailored just for you.
Thank you to MyTapScore/SimpleLab for all your help! :)

Simply Delighted by SimpleLabs

What a delightful experience so far with SimpleLab.

The bottom line up front is that I have found SimpleLab's mail-order water test process to be both simple, quick and responsive.

After reviewing some example reports for other customers, I found the reports to be clean, comprehensive, and easy to understand. More importantly, I had a specific question about how to handle a particular situation and I am grateful to Robin at SimpleLabs for prompt responses and being willing to research my specific issue. So, while I have not yet received my report, and while it will be some time before I submit my “After” test sample to SimpleLabs to compare it to my initial “Before” results, I am very pleased with the experience so far.

Now, if you’re bored and would like to have some more detail on this, here goes:
1. My saga starts about 6 months ago when I replaced my venerable, but quite unfriendly, 1989 Weil-McLain cast-iron kerosene boiler with a Rinnai Tankless Combi-Boiler running on propane.

2. In my research prior to the replacement, I learned that the thin fins of the tankless boiler’s heat exchanger are very sensitive to scale buildup and that my water “hardness” (i.e., concentration of Ca2+ and Mg2+) was something I would have to get a handle on. This was particularly true given that I live in a rural area and use a well. I had done a water test 10 years earlier but have long since lost those records and only have vague memories what they showed. So when my vendor for the tankless boiler sent me one of those follow-up auto-emails saying that they carried “water softening” solutions that fixed hard water and that they would do a “free water test”, I scheduled an appointment.

3. Hmmm……the “test” was more or less along the lines of a coloring exercise. The vendor’s water analyst dipped some strips into the water, did a eye-dropper test of some sort, and basically said “Red is bad, water softener needed, cost is $6500 (or $1-$2k more for premium add-ons), and install next week.”

Now, I have impaired color vision (something called Red-Green deficiency) so I couldn’t tell whether the strips or drops were red or blue or something else, but I seemed to remember that there were numbers involved in testing for impurities in the water. So, I told him I would get back to him.

4. I then did some research and learned:
a. This “water softening” thing is one solution to the water “hardness” piece, of the water purity problem. It appears softening is an effective solution, but there are simpler, less burdensome (e.g., no salt maintenance, no reverse osmosis for Na and Cl ions, no special sink faucets, etc.) and far cheaper solutions (like 90%+ cheaper) such as scale inhibitors (polyphosphate, electric/magnetic, etc.) for addressing some water hardness situations.
b. The water softening may not do anything at all for iron, lead, volatile organic compounds (think pesticides), bacteria or viruses, and for city folks, chlorine/chloramine. I think catching these is what the add-ons are for.
c. I found SimpleLabs and their approach to water testing is all about those numbers I seemed to remember. Good news!

5. Finally, my specific question was: if I use a scale inhibitor that changes the crystalline structure of the Ca2+ and Mg2+ going through my water system so that these ions DO NOT STICK TO THE PIPES (i.e., no scale is created), but the Ca2+ and Mg2+ ARE NOT ACTUALLY REMOVED from the water like a water softener does (they just pass harmlessly through the system), does the Tap Score reflect this in some way so I can quantitatively measure the degree of scale inhibition?

Unfortunately, the answer appears to be “No”. But I thought I’d ask. 😊

Fanastic helpful company!

I would honestly recommend TapScore/Simple Lab to anyone who wants to get their home well water tested as I did. They have a variety of tests of all kinds that you can order from your own home, dropping off at the post office and getting the answers online. What I love most though is that they are available to answer your questions. They don't give a canned answer as so many companies today. I have asked several questions and gotten a helpful, thought-out and knowledgeable response from a real person, not AI. And not a standard copy, paste response. For that reason alone, I highly recommend them.

Great Product--Even better customer service!

The very detailed results arrived in 10 days from mailing the sample. The dashboard is easy to navigate. I had one question and received a prompt emailed reply from Robin and I also had a very pleasant chat conversation with Kely. Both company reps were knowledgeable and super helpful. My expectations were exceeded. I highly recommend Tap Score!

Inaccurate results. Totally bunk test- and odd response!

I believe these tests are bunk. Having found this website (wish I found it before buying the kit) and found the other customers who reported getting bogus results, I am even more convinced it’s bunk. I bought a lithium test since the city (I live in a tiny one with only 20k people) has already detected and tested showing lithium in the water supply. So I bought a test to see how much is in my specific street. The test came back “not detected” … Oh really? When we know we have it in the water, and I already have a test showing it is present?? But TapScore test says it can’t detect it?

It’s like the other customer here who said they tested water from their well, and both times this company bunk test said there were high levels of fluoride. In water from a well! Where are these bunk results coming from?

Here’s the kicker, when I expressed this concern their rep told me, “climate, temperature, rainfall, and even time of day, etc. and these fluctuations will yield varying results sample to sample.” Oh really?? So this is the excuse for tests results fluctuating and showing inconsistent findings? It’s not your tests that are inconsistent, it’s the darn weather? We hardly even get rain here, plus Lithium is a heavy metal! It doesn’t just disappear with the weather.

In any case, I would like a refund for my test due to its inaccurate results. And hope this can serve as prudence for others looking for an accurate water test… to keep looking. It is not found here with Tap Score.

Dear Sherry,

Ah !

I’m sorry to hear that your experience with us did not leave you happy.

I understand your frustration, especially when local test reports dont line up. Environmental sampling data is unfortunately so much more susceptible to external factors than we want it to be sometimes.

That being said, I guarantee you my team is 100% committed to providing accurate and reliable water quality analyses. we take any concerns about our results very seriously!

There are several factors that can affect the detection of contaminants like lithium in water. These include sample collection, storage, and potential variations in water quality at different locations or times. I would like to investigate your specific case to understand what might have caused this discrepancy. I have reached out to our support team and lab team, with your order details, and I will help conduct a thorough review and provide you with a detailed explanation.

That being said, please dont rule out that this discrepancy may indeed be due to seasonal changes or even daily variations in water supply, DO / ph or sample collection. This is why utilities must test many samples and on a schedule. You cant just take one or two samples and call it quits.

Im going to make sure we help you get to the bottom of this!

Kindly
Johnny

"Simple Lab" - Makes Lab Results Simple to Understand

I am the caretaker for a Class B water system in Washington state. We test our water every two years and the results are vitally important to nine households. In the past I have used a local lab. They are technically quite competent and reliable but the results are not very "user friendly." Compiling a report for dissemination to the water system members was tedious and time consuming.

This year I had Simple Lab analyze our water and I could not be more pleased. From start to finish the process was "Simple" (pun intended) to use but with robust and multi-tiered informational support.

The analyses required are chosen from a menu of options. The selections range from a single item to well-explained "packages." For me(us) the basic "Well Water" compilation was perfect. It was more complete and nearly half the cost compared to our previous lab.

Simple Labs out-sources the actual analysis. They are partnered with a vast network of fully certified and accredited facilities across the U.S. and they unequivocally guarantee the accuracy and reliability of the results.

Other reviewers have adequately detailed the smooth and easy logistics:
- prompt delivery of well-packaged collection containers,
- clear, concise directions,
- mailing label and prepaid postage for return in the same container.
It simply could not be easier.

The presentation of results is where Simple Lab truly exceeded my expectations. Their Tap Score web site is beautifully crafted and exceptionally user-friendly. The basic information is clear, concise and easy to interpret. Simple Lab "flag" items that they feel warrant further explanation, but ALL of the results have links to additional information. A simple drop-down menu allows the application of different regulatory benchmarks (federal MCL, federal MCLG, etc.). In addition, there is easily accessible information on various water treatment options; how the assessment profile might effect "aesthetics" (odor and taste) and plumbing; and much more. The "depth" of the web site is truly impressive. All of this information is easily downloaded and can be shared with others via a secure link.

The final element that adds sparkle to this five-star review is Robin, the customer service representative. I had a nerdy-type question concerning the size of the local well-water comparison group and sent off an e-mail with little expectation that it would actually be answered. I could not have been more wrong. Within minutes I received a response from Robin. She is an absolute delight -- efficient, personable, and tenaciously reliable. She explained that she needed to contact another department to answer my question and that might take some "persistence" but she WOULD get back to me within a week. Much to my surprise, that is precisely what occurred. Our brief e-mail exchange convinced me that Robin is the perfect person for the customer support role. If you have questions or needs they WILL be dealt with in a timely and pleasant manner.

Those of you who routinely research products and services online are likely familiar with "Wirecutter" -- the N.Y. Times review arm -- which is how I discovered Simple Lab / Tap Score. I can't recall ever disagreeing with a Wirecutter recommendation and this is certainly no exception. Simple Lab is unequivocally a Five Star company.
