The boxes were OK, until they removed their printed instructions and forced us to use an app. We paid for a year in advance, under the terms that instructions would be included.

Now, you have to install an app. For a box for kids! I contacted customer service, and they claimed they were unable to provide a pdf. Then, magically, after I asked for a refund, they provided 1 pdf but refused to provide others.

Run. this is not an ethical company.

In response to MEL -- this is the first time anybody at MEL has mentioned this is limited. I have my doubts based on the number of other complaints. If it was limited, why did your staff refuse, on multiple occasions, to provide me with electronic instructions? If it was limited, why was I not given the option of a box with printed instructions?

Since the program is limited, will you make me whole by shipping the printed instructions I paid for? That should be easy, given other customers who are not in this limited trial are getting them.

I paid for a year in advance for 2 kids..so In total this was extremely expensive when you factor in conversion to australian dollars and shipping.

We received our first box, and installed the Mel Science app. It looked very good, and the app knew which packs had been shipped to us.

HOWEVER - it is impossible to use any of the features. In the app there is a 'Start Lesson' button against the particular set. This simply opens a link saying we need to install another app from the app store - MEL STEM. On selecting this, it just presents an error message saying 'try again later'. Tried on 2 android devices and 1 apple device, same issue.

So the online lessons are no good, which includes scanning the cards that come in the box etc.

Reached out to the Mel Science team and requested help twice over the period of a few weeks. Apart from an auto mailer response and a case that sits in 'Open' status, NOTHING has been done, no response to my questions, no help, no feedback.

So we're stuck with 1.5k worth of cheap-ish wooden sets that have no underlying educational value unless I research and teach the concepts myself.

Very disappointed in this kit. One part arrived broken, extremely fiddly to put together, keeps falling apart and doesn't work because the launcher to shoot the ball is too high and doesn't actually touch the ball to launch it. Very frustrating and too expensive for a box full of cheap wood that doesn't fit together properly. Won't buy again.

There are not recorded lessons for most of the physics kits we have received. We have subscribed for over a year, but we are done. Check out generation genius. They have recorded lessons!

Très très mauvais service client. 3 semaines après avoir reçu la notification d’envoi, je contacte DHL qui me répond ne pas encore avoir eu le colis malgré la notification électronique automatique et m’invite à contacter l’expéditeur. Le service client se borne à me renvoyer au suivi colis sur DHL puis ne me répond plus… je vois mal comment la situation se débloquerait toute seule. les expériences sont certainement très bien mais encore faut il les recevoir…

I love Mel science! The experiments are easy to follow and come with videos that explain the lesson. They're clear enough that a tween could do them, though I usually do them with a group of kids.

I got my son a subscription for a year for Christmas and he loved it and was alway excited when it arrived. We haven’t done all of them yet as we find it hard to get time to do it with a little one in house trying to help!! So we try to do it when it’s just the two of us.

I’ve built these with my son and they kept being defective and causing a lot of frustration for him.

The email service is great but the kits are not. Wouldn’t waste anymore money on them. Just brings disappointment for a very expensive price.

I want my money back.

We had a Mel chemistry subscription for my son for over a year. It started off excellent but the quality went down. Boxes no longer tied in with the live lessons, some boxes were a bit similar and a few had not much to them. We ended it after giving up hope of lessons to watch. Ended the subscription.

We decided to try physics for my daughter, again it started off excellent. Really interesting boxes and she loved them. Then a chemistry kit was sent, then another. Ones we’d done as well. No more physics kits, and they tried to justify that chemistry kits were fine instead. Not what we paid for or what the interest is, you want what you pay for and it’s not ‘better than nothing’ to substitute.

A shame as we’d have continued both subscriptions indefinitely otherwise.

I previously would have given them 5 SOLID STARS. As a homeschool mom, I don't really enjoy or feel most equipped for science, but the LIVE lessons or even viewing the recorded lessons were a LIFE SAVER. We ordered 2 kits monthly and looked forward the the live lessons (or recorded lessons) to have our friends come over and do science with us. I have shared MelScience with my homeschool community due to the support the live lessons gave us. We loved the instructors and virtual setting. I have been emailing the support team for over 3 months now, and They said a new platform is coming on a tablet, not the same as virtual and we sadly paused our subscription until then. The LIVE classes made the expense SO worth it for my family.

No customer service.supposed to get 2 projects a month. Have not gotten all my orders and once got the same activity 2x in the same month. And once got a project missing parts. Never have heard back from customer service for any of these issues. After multiple attempts gave up.

Love the experiments and the content. Very thorough and supportive platform. The best out there for my homeschooler! Thank you so much for such a supportive and great product!"

Terrible service. Signed up for subscription and received my first box. Late being delivered but all good. Then they took the subscription fee for the second box. This would include the starter kit. It never arrived. When I queried it I was told to wait in case the post was delayed. They then took the fee for the third box. A few weeks later I was still waiting so basically I'd paid for 3 and received 1. Another query and I was told they'd send a replacement for the second box but to wait for the third. More time and several emails later the third box arrived but still no replacement for the second. Another query and I was told the replacement hadn't been shipped ( despite being told more than once it had) and that they'd issue a refund. I was also told it may well still be shipped so if it arrived then keep it as a good will gesture free of charge. We'll that's great I thought until I was then told I needed the starter kit (in the replacement box which hadn't arrived) to be able to do the third box. So basically I've paid for 3 boxes so far. I've received one which has been done, one which can't be done and one which has never arrived and may not arrive but is needed in order to complete the other. The customer services are rubbish. Emails are answered quickly but we've gone round in circles and misinformation given and the phone number just gives you a taste of classical music and cuts you off. I've cancelled my subscription and definitely won't be recommending.

Subscribed for chemistry, physics and STEM. Great boxes! Love how it keeps the kids interested and busy with the experiments!

Our son enjoyed doing the experiments and learnt many things while doing them and playing with them repeatedly. Recommend this to curious kids.

My two young boys loved receiving their MEL Science deliveries. Simple easy instructions ensured they were able to create and discover science and understand it at the same time. Such a worthwhile exercise!

Bought a prepaid gift subscription but then the company started charging my card automatically per month thereafter which I did not authorize. They won't resolve the issue and its especially frustrating as my nephew now has 14 months of unused boxes since he found them boring (and I am out $400). If you want to bore your kids into hating science and be charged without your consent, go for it. Otherwise take your money elsewhere.

I love these kits, they are high quality for the price point and extremely well designed.

We have tried both the Chemistry and the Physics kits - they are fantastic and have fostered a love of science in our children! We are currently pausing our subscription (so easy to do) so we can catch up but will definitely be back!!!
