Run!!!!
So far, someone has cashed my payroll check after forging my signature and they do nothing about it!!! They have now taken so much h of my money I can't trust direct deposit and will never use a bank ever again
Incompetent Bank-Poor Customer Service on Their Error
Very nice people, but highly incompetent. Managed to overcharge me interest on a loan that was started almost 3 months ago. I spotted the mistake (not sure why the bank auditors didn't) and once I contacted them they stated that they would follow up and fix. The interest credited back was not from the day they first dropped the ball, but from their "closing date" which was several weeks after their first botched closing. Difference is less than $60---but it's the principal. They spend more than that to obtain a customer and my payments to them have been on time and the bank has been profitable.
Avoid at all costs.
The worst credit union ever
The worst credit union I ever dealt with- we got the loan right away through the dealer. Its the customer Rep. we have the issues with and how it’s handled. In a process of moving our loan to another credit union. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
I repeatedly have terrible luck paying…
I repeatedly have terrible luck paying bills with macu. I will schedule payments, get a confirmation#, only to find out the payment didn't go through. How is that possible? I make an electronic payment and get the confirmation# which means the payment is done right? Wrong. They don't put the payments though until the funds are no longer available to use. Giving you a confirmation is apparently no real garentee, or contact, if you will. Even though it is literally is supposed to be a contractual garentee. How does that work? I spoke with someone who returned my call and her answer was that even though i had the money, it takes up to 10 days for an electronic transaction to go through. B S!! It's instananious just like it is all over the world. If this were the only shady thing I've dealt with at this bank, I'd be 10 times happier. Unfortunately this is not the only legit problem I've had with them. How do they get away with this? Hmmm? It's too bad utah law is consistently laid out to protect banks, employers and other wealthy donors to the law makers personal pockets. That's the simple truth. You'd think such self proclaimed "family" oriented people would take care of the families. Sadly they do not. Anyone who lives here for long knows that whether they admit it or not.
Terrible service don’t waste your time here
Worst experience ever for a small HELOC. Follow up was terrible and promises made several times not kept. I am doing business elsewhere now and the process and professionalism is unmatched. I wasted almost 3 months waiting on requests or responses from a rep named Kyle Costa. He should have just said they don’t want my business. I have 7 figures and own 2 homes 1 outright. Someone with a w2 living payday to payday is less risky than me? And our credit is excellent. Don’t go here for banking service you will regret it.
They are a great alternative to big banks
They are a great alternative to regular banks. MACU is always great to work with. However over the years their fees have increased and they are less personal. Far better than the major banks, but I wish they would stick to their community bank feel more.
I expected MACU to have a way better…
I expected MACU to have a way better review status than it does. If people came to my branch, they would easily have 5 stars!
Never get a loan from this credit…
Never get a loan from this credit union. Its not worth the hassle.
The website MACU provides is a complete joke in 2022. Linked accounts don't work half of the time, the navigation is absurd, and for whatever reason they require me to provide all of my transaction history for any external account I link.
They also seem to enjoy calling me for no reason. This has happened twice now, where an agent calls me to ask me a question about the account, and then I call back and no one has any idea what is going on. Either I'm being phished or organizational incompetence, and I strongly suspect the latter.
Always a 10/10 experience with these…
Always a 10/10 experience with these guys :)
My thoughts and experience
Fantastic bank/credit union love these guys they have gone above and beyond to provide 100% excellent service to me as a customer im fully satisfied with this bank/credit union customer service is above and beyond great the credit cards they offer are fantastic and checking and savings accounts are also perfect ive had just the best experience with this bank/credit union in person online and over the phone i couldn't be happier than i am now i highly recommend this credit union 1000000000% hands down
Been good for 2 decades, not the best rates
We've always had a good experience with them and have had an account for almost 2 decades. The app works really well. We get pretty good rewards on our credit card, but the interest rates on savings accounts aren't that good.
Garbage company don't bother
Garbage company don't bother. Mobile check deposit had an error and never put money in my account after 3 days of trying to call and being on hold for 30 Plus min. each time, I had to go in person and finally get my money that I needed 3 days ago.
Longest hold for customer service I have ever had with a credit union, garbage glitches and problems all the time.
No thanks there are much better credit unions out there that don't waste my time. Don't waste your time finding out how poorly they are run.
Also went to a location 3 weeks ago on a Tuesday about 1pm and they were closed, no one was there, no signs said they were closed, but doors locked and no one at drive thru.
MACU has grown to be the biggest credit…
MACU has grown to be the biggest credit union in Utah because they embrace old school, greedy capitalism. Don't let its "credit union" incorporation deceive you.
I've worked for hard-nosed greedy companies that are phenomenally successful and I've worked for hard-working customer-and-value-focused companies who are every bit as successful. As consumers we should never reward the former way of running a business; never support the MACU's of the world. There is no reason to.
The fact that it is a "credit union" and I moved to them to support my local community credit union, is one of the reasons I can't stand them. Take all the bad experiences you've ever had with Verizon, Comcast, Transamerica, Auto Insurance, DMV, IRS and other Banks; put them together and you get MACU.
Many of the BIG Banks alert you before they penalize you with an overdraft fee due to a pending charge. MACU alerts you after they have assessed a $25 fee, and will asses a $25 fee the next two days if you happen to be busy. In short you could overdraft $1, and pay a $75 fine for that. Then you could very well have a bank on the other side of that transaction with a $30 penalty; so the total goes up to $105!!! This is big revenue for MACU so they don't care. No joke. Loan sharks may be the only industry interested in gouging their customers more.
Who runs their business on "gotcha penalties? " Think about it! Penalizing the customers they exist to serve. How strange is that? Can you imagine being at a grocery store and a card is declined and they penalize you $25 on the spot before trying another card? Would you go back there? No! You would be ticked.
What is ironic is MACU sells you on the idea that their overdraft fee is only $25. Hearing that sincerely gave me a warm-fuzzy when I decided to make the jump from Chase to MACU. Ahhh finally a local community credit union that tries to do a little better, and I can feel good about supporting a locally born business. These were my actual thoughts and feelings.
Ask Chase Bank what it's like with them? There were dozens of times I got alerts, and had the money in before any fee was assessed. With alerts like that I could set and forget my bank account. A beautiful thing.
I signed into Chase maybe twice a month. But with MACU, I'm always on-edge and log in no less than 30 times a month. I HATE it.
Another small thing MACU has no way to do external same day ACH transfers from business accounts. Just stupid as can be. So I feel trapped, because I'm part of a joint business account at MACU, so I'm stuck on the business side, and it traps me for my personal accounts as well as I need the flexibility of same day transfers.
Next, and this a small, small thing, their ATMs won't dispense $10 bills. If you buy anything on KSL, make sure you always buy stuff in $20 increments. I know this is stupid, but this actually speaks to who MACU is. I'm sure it was decision that came out of some efficiency or streamlining initiative. Disregarding customer service as part of the decision-making process.
It is hard to explain how deep my dissatisfaction is. Maybe one other way to do it is to liken MACU's success to the success of an ambitious, slippery but slick politician who knows how to manipulate people with smiles, flattery, and by putting them in positions where they feel they have no choice but make the choice that is in the interest of the politician. Their customer support will always say the slick thing to justify or skirt by doing the wrong thing.
Come on, you have to know what I mean!
Just an overall feeling of greed, the wrong kind of capitalistic, credit-union-by-name only shysters.
And me being stuck makes it all the worse. So this is my chance to vent, where otherwise I would just leave.
Be smart, stay away from MACU. Many other banks will be a better choice.
Good
I like them! My wife used them and so we switched when we got married and I prefer them to AFCU. Lots of branches in the Salt Lake Valley
Open account for 11 years, they still lie, won't help, and are focused on screwing you
Really quick bullet points to summarize:
- They have friendly employees, awful policies
- Not willing to work with you when things go wrong
- Will tell you one thing and do something different
- Most unprofessional collections team EVER
- Don't care how long you've been with them
- Go somewhere else
I'll try and keep this story brief and too the point but there is a lot of emotion behind it so it'll probably be a book anyway.
They were nice enough to use, always a pleasant experience in the branch or online chat, their base level employees are great. Anything beyond that and they are one of the worst financial institutions I've dealt with. Their overdraft fees are insane, most places give you the opportunity to bring your account current before smacking you with a $35 fee, MACU will do it for a few cents with no chance to fix it. I was scammed years ago, the best they would do for me (after telling me the fake check was cleared and the money was good only to come back and say nevermind we need all that back) was give me a workout loan which had an insane interest rate. It took me years to pay that off and wouldn't allow me to even consider other lending options until it was paid off. Don't know why I stayed after that but I did. By the time Covid hit I'd been with them 11 years. Had my salary cut back drastically in August right after buying a house, pulled out a loan with them to restructure my debt, it was actually a decent deal, the loan officer was very helpful and got me a good deal. Also helped me get a loan with my motorcycle as collateral, something I greatly regret doing. I was laid off the following December and immediately fell behind on basically everything. I tried to keep up with the payments, ended up falling behind. They were quick to get collections involved and not so quick to offer help despite saying they would. I ended up being able to get some payments made so I was only a couple months behind, they offered their standard covid assistance program which delays payments for 90 days, I figured great, I have three months to get things worked out. Well no that 90 days started from when my last payment was made so it bought me literally 6 days. SO HELPFUL THANKS GUYS. Soon after they closed my line of credit with no warning despite having been making payments on it. I called and spoke with some account manager who worked out a deal with me to reopen the line, and give me some time to work out payments on everything else. Well her team doesn't talk to the collections team, they even said so themselves, so nothing I was told happened because the collections department just bulldozed through and screwed everything up. A couple weeks after the line of credit being restored they closed it again, incurred a massive amount of fees they refused to refund. From February through April I was charged well over 1k in fees they refused to do much about. I called and spoke with their collections team many times, frustrated to the point I could hardly do more than shout in frustration to which point they actually laughed at me more than once. When trying to explain the deal I had agreed on with the other department they would tell me that's not their department they don't care, laugh some more and then continue to harass me with phone calls emails and letters. Now my they have been up my butt for reposessing my motorcycle. The thing has sat at my house and they stopped by once, to which I said you can't have it, why make it easy on them. I had also been saving my money to get my accounts current because they have a stupid policy that if you are in repo you have to bring all your accounts current before they'll drop the repo case, not just collateral loan. When I argued how unfair that was they just said "it's in the agreement you signed", ya maybe it was, doesn't mean it's fair just makes you a dick for hiding it and never mentioning it. So since I had lost all trust in anything they do I stopped making payments until I would have enough to bring things current. I'm not about to make payments for months just to have them come pick up the bike and lose all the money and the bike. They then filed a claim with their insurance saying I was trying to defraud them. I spoke with their agent, who was very cooperative, did what he could to buy me some time saying they were incredibly lazy and unprofessional, also advised I continue my plan to not make payments until I can do so in full because he wouldn't trust them in the situation either. After being unemployed for 8 months, I finally get a job and tried to talk to them to work something out. They wouldn't give me one inch, not even the slightest sign they gave a crap despite it being my only vehicle. So don't use them, they don't care, not even a little, they won't work with you just screw you over.
Mortgage Refinance Process
I have used MACU for a few year now, service has been about average, friendly folks but mistakes have been made several times, I decided to give them a try for a Refi, and short of given them my DNA history, I decided to cancel the process, I should have known the process wouldn't go smooth, mortgage rep missed first appointment. Then I had to remind her of my requirements, basically double and triple checking her work, I will not recommend them and quite frankly I may look for another CU.
Great Credit Union
Great Credit Union. I have been with MACU for over 10 years now. It's becoming tough for average consumers to find banks they can trust, but I always get great service at MACU and the few times I have a problem they go out of their way to help. I hear stories of other CU and banks adding more fees and obstacles that hurt working families in this "new economy", I am glad MACU so far avoided this.
Horrible Customer Service
Horrible Customer Service. When you call to get help the people answering the phones never know anything more than the automated system. They place you on hold for every question so they can call someone else for help. I have been waiting to deposit a check for 3 days.
I am going back to BOA. I'm glad I never closed my accounts with them.
Absolutely atrocious customer service
Absolutely atrocious customer service. They're all amateurs. I've never had such a terrible experience at a credit union. And it's consistently bad. Been here for a couple years now.
MACU is great for both business and personal banking
My experience with this credit union has been positive. I have both a business and personal account. The mobile app is great easy to use and the person to person service is great. MACU is very invested in their members and treat them excellently.
