Miserable experience with upsell/double-bill
I have read International Magazine for over a year, and was excited to book into their "Fast Track Panama" conference February 7-9, 2025. First I signed up for the conference, then their marketing machine upsold me to Explorer's Club. Within minutes, when I found out that both hotels were completely booked, I tried to cancel. Contrary to their representations, they had billed me twice, once for the conference and once for the club; they only refunded one charge, and are refusing to refund the other. Their customer service is very horrible to reach and insulting on the telephone. FOLLOW-UP: Contrary to the representations made below, I called and cancelled SUCCESSFULLY on January 29, 2025. What was not stated, including through the upsell-machine that attracted me into the Explorer's Club purchase, was that my credit card had already been charged the first time, and would be charged a second time. The representation that had been made was that I would attend the Panama Conference at no charge if I bought the Explorer Club membership. So I had not idea that I need to be seeking refund of two charges. That is the nature of my quarrel. Please get your facts straight.

We are transparent with our policies, which are clearly stated at the time of purchase. As the conference was scheduled to begin on February 7, 2025, and your cancellation request was made on February 5, we were unfortunately unable to accommodate your request. At that stage, arrangements and costs had already been finalized.
Regarding your concern about billing, you were charged separately for the conference and for the Explorer’s Club, as they are distinct purchases. We processed the cancellation and refund for the Explorer’s Club per our policy, while the conference registration fell under our stated terms.
We are sorry that this experience did not meet your expectations. If there is anything further we can do to clarify our policies, please feel free to reach out.

Couldn't Have Done It Without You!
It was through this informative, fact based publication that I found the perfect retirement spot. I would never have considered the country that I now call home until I began reading International Living. It provides detailed, fact based information on both the pros and cons of living in thousands of potential destinations outside the US, and was my primary guide for choosing the perfect location to spend my retirement years. Caveat Emptor for RETA
As far as the magazine goes, it is fine. However, they definitely over market.
It is their RETA (Real Estate Trend Alert) service that I have the biggest issue with. I have been a member since 2020. The project and deals presented by Ronan McMahon are legitimate "potential" projects. I have signed 4 contracts - two fell through. That said, I did receive my deposits back with little hassle.
The two other deals are now significantly past due. Ronan never mentions this in his updates. He was recently touting the rise in value of a project in Progresso Yucatan but never mentioned that the project will be delivered over one-year late as will another project in Playa del Carmen by the same developer. He boasts of great potential returns but doesn't address that you're paying deposits for a two+ year period with no interest or return, effectively "dead money".
Recent postings on Tulum never once mention the absolute oversupply of rental units in that market.
Five years and I have yet to take possession of a single property.
There are definitely real projects and the process is relatively easy, but don't believe the hype about the types of returns you will earn.

Retirement Income Strategies Made Easy
Jeff set expectations for the level of the masterclass. Although I would describe myself as very financially educated I did learn some new things. The pace of the masterclass was perfect. I also appreciated that the class was live with Q&A and breaks. Finally, the portfolio provided is very useful.

There was a summit
The summit did take place and was quite helpful. I hope IL will be more explicit and honest in their description of their programs. Setting realistic expectations would have completely avoided this bad review.

I purchased International Living because it promised to provide insights and information for retirement overseas. I did receive a few digital pamphlets with a limited amount of useful information.
What I received most often from IL was an Endless bombardment of advertisements for additional services and events most with a very hefty price tag!
The final insult “as a paying customer was being targeted by an avalanche of their political rhetoric and sketchy “experts” “ When I called to complain they said these materials had been sent by their affiliates…
I NEVER gave International Living permission to sell or provide my personal information to any other company or organization!

Crypto Profits Masterclass
Stupid me assumed that we would be getting regular updates for the Crypto Profits Masterclass, at least for the ensuing year. This is the most I have paid for a crypto service (almost AUD1,500) and being told today that we have received the final updates is beyond belief!!! Sorry, but I am very disappointed.

A Toolbox For Future Ex-Pats
Was a member of IL some years ago but somehow fell off the roster. This opportunity arose just as I was planning a scouting trip to some would-be retiree locations in Europe. Just in time, this indescribable experience has changed my trajectory and thoughts about where and how to retire overseas. The visa and tax information alone is PRICELESS and opened my eyes to certain pitfalls had I not been made aware. Great educational experience. I made important decisions about my future as an expat as opposed to roaming nomad. Extended stay in various countries. Realized real estate investing was not in my future plans because of my age. Great choices and great expertise

I became a member in order to read unfiltered / unhidden information about retirement abroad from experienced Expats. All the information that I was looking for still requires further investment to open and read. I am so disappointed in this newsletter platform and the articles.

Very informative but the venue was…
Very informative but the venue was lacking. Would not recommend “Westgate Resort” for future Conferences. Unclean, limited food (especially after 9:00p), 4 night stay with zero housekeeping, 2 days with no hot water in room.

The drink events are very important for networking, but could maybe be longer.
I was disappointed that so many stands had gone by the last night event, there were people I was still trying to talk to … gone 🙁
Some events were very cold for me but I know people have differences.
Hotel had serious house keeping issues and we had no service for 3 days! Not your fault but maybe a different hotel next time?

There conference was very prompt with their starting and ending times during presentations, they provided great attention to detail to enhance the guest experiences, the presenters and staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, presenters were well prepared And gave excellent presentations. I had no idea how much more I had to learn…
I only came for the tax and medical insurance information, but discovered so much more that I did not expect. The experts, expats, and representatives of various countries and companies, all were gracious, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful. We had already done a lot of traveling, but we still learned so much!
Glad we came, and we are seriously considering attending another one in Central America!

Everything you need to know about your overseas move in one place
I was amazed at the incredible amount of knowledge each representative presented. Their enthusiasm was contagious. I really enjoyed the open forums where we could meet with the representatives one-on-one. They offered more detailed information, resources and contacts.
An added treat was meeting so many people that feel as I do about travelling and adventuring. I’ve lived overseas for almost 30 years, coming back to the states just before Covid. I’m 73 years old now, and looking for one last adventure. Thank you for making it seem possible ❤️
