Do not use Hungry House

Do not use Hungry House, they have now started inflating their minimum order charges plus adding inflated amounts for delivery. The Chinese I frequently order from has suddenly now become a minimum order charge of £20.00 plus a £2.50 delivery charge, upon phoning them to complain they explained that is not their doing, Hungry House have increased it. If I order direct from the Chinese then they have a minimum order of £15.00 with a £1.00 delivery charge.

I think it is an absolute joke that they think they can get away with inflating the prices for the more popular takeaways, I will definitely not be using them again, do they not realise that Just Eat and Deliveroo are now healthy competition? Absolute joke of a company and I hope other people realise this soon.

Don’t use hungry house

I ordered a Chinese from Hoi Sin in Bedford. The food was due at 10.30. I was home with flu and this by my front door in living room all night. I tried ringing restaurant when it was an hour late but no response. I then received an email from hungry house asking me to call them and this time spoke to a girl called Jasmine. It was now 12.:30 the manager said if I
Contacted hungry house they would agree refund as obviously I didn’t want to eat at 1.45am. I rang Hungry House who denied the refund. And saud restaurant could not be contacted but said he would call between 11 and 1 next day. He did not! I rang again this evening and spoke to a rude young man who called me by my first name. Very disrespectful as I’m in my mid fifties. Had been told earlier money would be in my PayPal account this evening. Was not! Restaurant tried to deliver at 1.45 am. Waking me up! Food was cold and shrivelled up and inedible. He said they had cooked fresh but as I spoke to them at 1.40 and they are two miles from me it’s impossible. Also heard jasmine tell manager they reheated the order of two hours earlier. He yelled at her not to let customer hear that. Will never order through hungry house again. Still awaiting refund.

I would like to apologize for the issues that you had when placing an order through hunrgyhouse! This is not what we expect of our restaurant partners and we will make sure to get in touch with them.
Normally if an order is late or needs to be cancelled we do need to speak with the restaurant to find out what has happened would you be able to send your order ID so we can have a look into this and make sure this is sorted for you?

PayPal is a lot faster at getting the funds back out to you, they will leave our system at end of business which is normally around 5am but so sorry for the inconvenience that all of this has caused!

Used once and then put my honest review on here Graeme assured me that I would get a refund. Emailed but they never replied so here's another honest review. The takeaways they use don't care and nor do they. Save yourself the bother and avoid using Hungry house.

With PayPal disputes, we always try to get the refund sorted on our end before handing it over to PayPal. Tried to place and order through their …

Tried to place and order through their system. Order went through with no problems. Got a message back that the order was declined (the restaurant just closed) and the money I payed were in my hungryhouse account. All good. I get back and order from another restaurant and tried to pay the difference with the same card. Surprise! Card declined. Tried about 5 times, same result. Tried different card, same result. Twice. Tried the first card again. Same result. Payment declined. Went to the ATM, got cash from the card without any problems. Therefor there's nothing wrong from my bank, otherwise they would just block the card. Had to order payment by cash with money still stuck in hungryhouse account. Went to chat with support on their website. It's not our fault over and over. Nevermind the facts, they just keep playing the same song... not our fault. Thank you for distress! Never again!

Hungry House I thought you were better than this!

Well I've been advised to review the restaurant who took two hours to deliver my food and it arrived luke warm and the quality was awful. I was advised by Katrine an advisor from Hungry House " Reviews effect the ratings and also the rankings of restaurants on hungeryhouse.co.uk, so they have a real impact. In my experience, restaurants pay a lot of attention to reviews as they can have a big effect on the business they do on hungryhouse. " By the way the time the food took to be delivered I think it actually did come from hungeryhouse.co.uk! Watch your spelling Katrine! (Hungery sounding like the place Hungary fyi)
So it turns out the company are just as ignorant as Hungry House Advisors because nobody wants to take responsibility.
SO GUESS WHAT HUNGRY HOUSE...
You're also receiving a review for your lack of ownership to this issue. In my opinion when a restaurant refuses to refund a customer, don't reply to my complaint with "Unfortunately there is very little I can do beyond this as I cannot force the restaurant to give a refund."
If you can't force the restaurant to refund me then issue a warning to the restaurant and refund me through Hungry House.
All the advisors come across friendly and helpful but it turns out they're not very helpful at all.
All this for a flipping curry...

I'm sorry to hear that your order was so late and that you felt our agents service was lacking. As the goods are provided by the restaurant, we do need their consent to refund anything. Of course in extreme food quality cases, we are able to intervene and provide compensation however when it comes to late deliveries, there is only so much we can offer. Good service

I don't order take-out much but when i do, i use hungry house. I haven't been disappointed so far with their service. Would order with them again the next time i order. Would recommend it.

Even worst customer service

This review isn't about a restaurant at hungry house its about hungry house itself.
They ask you to wright an email to them to yet again explain what has happened after you've already left a review so you take the time to email them and they completely ignore you like nothing even happened.
I'm well on my way to making a more detailed complaint.

Disgusted

Disgusted. Took my money to then tell me they had no driver to deliver. Why are they allowing people to order and accept money. Now I have to wait 3 to 5 days for a refund.

Hello Joanna,

I'm sorry that your order was cancelled! The payment is taken when the order is placed to make sure there are funds available in the customers account to pay for the order. If its then cancelled or declined and you are a hungryhouse member, the money goes into your hungryhouse account balance until 3am so that you can place another order with the same funds. If you do not place another order, the money is automatically refunded at 3am and takes 3-5 working days for most banks to process. I hope this information is helpful to you and I apologise for any inconvenience!

Dont even think of using!!

Ordered 2 bottles of Merlot,and was told they would arrive at 7.53pm which was approx 30mins from time of order, finally arrived at 9pm! during this time i called the number on my ordrer which from the background music and the guy on the phone i would say 99% was an Indian resturant.
I asked to cancel and have a refund as i had pre paid,i was told they could not do this as i had to call customer services,i did this but an automated voice said my call could not be taken because of a technical problem.The win arrived and when i scanned the label the recommended retail price was £4 per bottle,i had paid £14 per bottle! tasted it and tipped it down the sink.

Will never order via hungry house again.

I ordered a scampi supper, mince pie supper, garlic bread and brown sauce from ab Edinburgh chip shop. The order came, instead I got a single pie, pie supper, garlic bread and no sauce. Tried the live chat, no resolution was made. I had to order again, at my expense. Absolutely no customer service skills.

Amazing customer service

One time I didn't received my order and next day I contacted customer service live chat. John responded and refunded my money in a minute. Amazing service, works perfectly with food orders and customer service very responsive

I'm sticking with Just Eat next time...

The worst customer service known to man. I realise that the restaurants on the website find it hard to get customers due to either poor quality of food or service and I received both from Welcome restaurant in Walthamstow and hungryhouse.co.uk. My order was 20 minutes late and when I phoned to ask why it was delayed and not informed the manager got rude. Saying it is busy and does not have time to let me know that it is running late, that I should wait as it is on its way. What's bad enough is I ordered a Thai noodle dish and the food arrived soggy, overcooked and a complete mess. It's bad enough that I spent money on rubbish food but customer service was very poor. When I called to complain about the service the advisor said that customers cannot receive refunds without the restaurants authorization. Which Welcome restaurant refused to compensate me. When I asked if there was anything else he could do the advisor said we are like Expedia. When you receive a bad experience on your holiday you have to complain to the airlines/hotels that you have paid for. Not us. Really???!!! Never again will I visit this website. I only tried it once and once is enough. I am sticking to Just eat as the options are much better and guaranteed I get my money worth.

I've managed to find your order in our system. I'm sorry that the order was late and you were disappointed with the service delivered.

It seems that the agent spoke to the restaurant on your behalf to request some compensation and they were not able to take any action. The financial transaction that you make when you order is with the restaurant directly, we are not being paid for the service there, they are. Therefore we are not able to refund without their consent.

When something goes wrong, as it is the restaurant's responsibility to deliver the food on time at an acceptable quality, it is also up to them to compensate you. However sometimes we try to arrange compensation in special circumstances, depending on what the issue at hand is.

If you send me an email to socialmedia@hungryhouse.co.uk with your order ID in so I can confirm I have the right case, then I'll see if there is anything more we can do for you.

I tried ordering 3 times from the hungry house app, and all three times my orders was apparently cancelled by the restaurant and i still had money taken out of my account wth, i dont know if a refund is automatically made and it takes a couple days to appear on my account or what... thanks god theres Just Eat, you man need to fix up.

Hello there,

I'm sorry that you had multiple cancelled orders on the system.

If a restaurant is not able to accept orders we are only aware if they communicate that to us. In this case it seems that was not done so unfortunately your orders were able to be placed.

In order for an order to be confirmed we need to know that the order can be paid for and that the restaurant are able to make and deliver it. Therefore we send the order to the restaurant at the same time as we process the payment. Sometimes the payment goes too far through and therefore the transaction has been completed once we know the restaurant have to cancel the order, hence the payment went through.

We to have measures in place to reduce the chance of this happening more than once, so when a second order is placed it will be with the same funds as from the first cancelled order. This is only, however, the case if the orders are cancelled straight away and they don't get confirmed, then cancelled.

Can you please send over your order ID or the last 4 digits of the card number to socialmedia@hungryhouse.co.uk so I can better investigate and let you the specifics of this case?

Incredible useless customer service

Incredible useless customer service.
Had to wait over 30 minutes for a order after they promised it to arrive earlier, tried to get in touch with the customer service over the phone but put on hold for over 20 minutes, tried to talk with an operator today, as the food received was cold and disgusting when arrived and they claim they cannot offer a refund but only give me 3£ credit for late delivery.

Unacceptable, won't be using again.

As it is the responsibility of the restaurant to deliver the order at the time they quote us, and to an acceptable we cannot normally arrange compensation for these issues. However, as the order was placed with us we will communicate with the restaurant on your behalf and failing that we will try to offer some credit.

In this case it seems we have already offered all possible compensation, but I would like to follow up on the customer service that you received. I'll pass your complaint about the agent in question to my supervisor so they are aware of what happened here.

Worst Delivery Platform in London!

This has to be the worst restaurant delivery app/service in London! The first time I used them is the last time I will ever use them!

My experience with not just the restaurant but Hungryhouse is disgusting. Hungryhouse told me when my order should be delivered, but then reserved the right for the restaurant to change that delivery. When the delivery was late, I contacted Hungryhouse via live chat. There was no resolution, but an apology. I was told to wait a little longer as it was a busy night. Long story short - 3 hours for a delivery of chinese which is 2 miles away. 2.5 hours into the wait I contact Hungryhouse again via live chat and wait for over 4 hours in que to which no one ever comes to my complaint - it was after 0100h that I finally had enough and turned the computer off - hungryhouse customer service stops at 2300h.

So I contact them this morning (the morning after the palaver) and I am told there is nothing they can do, blah blah. They turned around and blamed me for accepting the order 3 hours late (full story below) and then say "well it was the busiest day of the year for deliveries". NO ACCOUNTABILITY by either the restaurant or this hungryhouse service. The food showed up late, cold and unenjoyable. When I turned it back on the customer service representative and asked him how he would like this and how he would feel if it were done to him, he said, "I dont know how I would feel". Well I know how he would feel!!

This service is horrible and treats its users like rubbish! No accountability, no responsibility and no resolution to my issue with the hungryhouse service or with the restaurant despite several phone cals to the restaurant and several live chats with hungryhouse. NEVER USE HUNGRYHOUSE! They care not for their patrons or the way their patrons are treated by their affiliates and/or partner restaurants.

My full story/second chat session with Hungryhouse below:

I originally ordered this meal ay 2019h. I was told 2044 then 2150h. Now the restrautn just phoned (after their arrival was to be) and has stated another half an hour or they can cancel the order!! OR WHAT?!! Leave me hungry with having to order from somewhere else at 2230!!! This is unacceptable and if I knew this was going to turn into this palaver I never would have ordered from Hungryhouse in the first place.

This is unacceptable! this restaurant is now 10 minutes late after calling to ask for another half an hour!!

So... I was then kept waiting as positon 1 in the que all night - no one from hungry house ever handled my query or compalaint form last night - they left me waiting for hours!! all around I have to say that the restaurants you work with and your own services are dreadful,
the food finally came at almost 2300h when ordering approx three hours before - this is unacceptable

hungryhouse: Yes I've just read the chat transcript with (name omitted) yesterday. Your second message wasn't actually read by anyone, you disconnected the chat before speaking to an agent. So ultimately you accepted the food at 11pm, or whatever the exact time was?

You: Thomas... I was 14 in queue for ever and I never disconnected anything. My grandmother and I were disgusted.. we wanted a simple chonese dinner on boxing day which ended up being a three hour wait - at 2152 the restaurant called and said another half an hour

hungryhouse: Yes we were very busy yesterday, as were most restaurants across the board. I do appreciate that it arrived late, and I'm sorry about that, but you would need to frame your complaint against the fact that yesterday was Boxing Day. It's one of the busiest days of the year for most restaurants.
You: they also said we coudl cancel the order - this was after they were already late with the ori... I dont care about it being the busiest day of the year! there is a paid service to be given and it wasnt

I must advise that a refund or reduction is at the discretion of the restaurant once you accept the order- and personally I woucan't guarantee I would have accepted the order in the knowledge it was delayed. I don't know exactly how I would feel.

Hungryhoue has objected to this review because it originally mentioned the first name of the representative helping me. It is a sad day when hungryhouse cares more about a review instead of helping the customer that wrote it! It states in the chat with hungryhouse that a callback case was created. I HAVE NEVER HAD A CALL BACK or any communication from hungryhouse to date to tey to resolve the issues I experienced. I only learned of their objection to my review from Trustpilot which dealt with the mention of a hungryhouse employees first name. Hungryhouse states once I revise my review then they can assist me.... LOL.

Blocked and don't know why.....

Looking on Google and not finding anyone in the same situation, I feel I must be one of the very few who have had a block on their account. Why do I have a block on my account? Well I don't know because I haven't been told why. So upon requesting the block be removed, I was told that my request to remove the block has been "refused at this time" and again no explanation as to why. So basically now I can't use Hungry House AT ALL. I have sent emails and have been completely ignored. Disgusting customer service, avoid like the plague.

Unfortunately a lot of blocks cannot be removed so that we are able to maintain the security of our system. We are not able to give more information about how and why, as we need to keep knowledge of our security systems internal.

Hungryhouse not at fault despite it being down to their very own system!!!

So I placed an order through Hungryhouse as I have done many times via the Internet. As I came to pay by card there was a problem with their system and wouldn't connect to process the card. Contacted via live chat and because their customer service is non existent this chat involved 3 members of staff. I was told that they have issues with some browsers and told to use chrome which I didn't have or use their app again didn't have. I only wanted to place the order to eat. All staff I chatted to were unhelpful and gave the impression it wasn't their problem.
Even when I contacted customer service and explained the issue the attitude still has come back that it wasn't Hungryhouse's fault. Seriously who's fault is it then? As far as I was aware I was trying to use Hungryhouse system to process and order and should be able to do this on any platform. This site is meant to be in place to make it easier and in fact is the opposite and should you experience any problems well you may as well talk to the wall as you are likely to get more of a response!! Please do yourselves a favour and just order direct with the takeaways. Process is easier and cuts out the middle person.
Update 28/12: Having received a further response today this time from a trainer at Hungryhouse even he stated that in his opinion the staff were helpful and that's what they are trained to do and that customers should be prepared to put in some work themselves to resolve issues. As I explained to Gary they are an eatery order establishment and customers will get fed up taking their custom elsewhere. I was just thanked for my feedback but he stood by his opinion as a trainer that there was no problem to the service delivered. I also explained that the company have lost me as a customer and will not be recommending. Nothing was done to try and retain my custom with the company by any staff member I have dealt with. Absolutely disgusted - there is no customer service at all with this company and they don't seem to care either believing that there aren't any issues.

I'm sorry to hear about the payment issues that you were experiencing when you tried to place an order before Christmas. I managed to track down the case in our system and find the emails and chat conversations that you had with our team.

I understand it's really annoying to not be able to use your selected browser to process your transaction, but sometimes there are bugs that cannot be resolved immediately. As such we will request that you use another method to place your order. Apologies if you felt we were shifting blame, that's not at all the case, there's just little we can do to resolve it in that moment.

What we do is pass information of the case onto our technical team to investigate further. Sometimes the browser being used, the version of the browser or app or even things like saved information in the cache can lead to a customer struggling on the site.

Astoundingly poor customer service

Terrible customer service if something goes wrong. They protect their clients and not the customers.

We ordered food at 8.30 and it was supposed to arrive around 9.15. We then saw that it wasn't going to arrive until 10pm. Then 10pm rolled around and still no food. A lot of phone calls to the restaurant later, the food finally turned up at 10.45pm... a full 90 minutes after it was supposed to. To top it off, one of the dishes was completely wrong. It ruined our evening.

Because the 'help' function wasn't loading up on the app at the time, I wrote a complaint to Hungry House via a portal on their website. This went unacknowledged, so today I used the chat function on their app to follow up. As soon as I got through to the agent, she immediately asked me why I was only lodging the complaint now and denied that my email had never arrived.

She seemed to want to focus on my 'lateness' in lodging a complaint instead of actually dealing with the complaint, despite the fact that it was their failing systems which had prevented me from making a complaint in the first place. She was extremely rude and unprofessional throughout the conversation and when I asked to speak to her manager because of how she was handling it, she stated that there was 'no need for me to speak to a manager' and refused to let me speak to anyone else.

I then dealt with two further people who were equally as unhelpful and uncaring, one of which told me that because we had eaten the food we wouldn't be able to get a refund and they could only offer me a small credit on my account and that I'd need to deal with the restaurant directly. I appreciate that the restaurant is at fault, however the food was ordered through the Hungry House app, and they processed the payment, so they should refund it and then deal with the restaurant directly themselves. This is how businesses that care about their customers operate.

Hungry House should offer a guarantee to their customers that their money and rights are protected. I'm clearly never going to get my money back by dealing with the restaurant directly. There is absolutely no protection for the customer.

Hungry House also need to seriously invest in training their workforce properly. I have never dealt with a more rude and unprofessional customer service department. I will never use this app again. Avoid at all costs.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review and give feedback of your experience with our service. I do apologise that it has been such an unfavourable one - 90 minutes late is not an acceptable standard of service for our partner restaurants to be delivering.

I'm sorry for the manner in which your complaint has been dealt with. The time that had passed does complicate things, and I'm sure you can understand why an agent may be limited to the action that can be taken sometime after the issue arose, however that does not mean that we will not further investigate a case.

As you point out, it is the responsibility of the restaurant to deliver the food of an acceptable standard and at the time that they quote us. However, for us to just dismiss these complaints as something for the restaurant to handle would be awful service, hence we communicate with them on your behalf to resolve any issues. After some time if we cannot resolve the case we will have to close it and then pass you on to the restaurant directly.

My colleague was correct to explain that because the food was consumed we cannot offer a full refund, however in cases such as these we usually try to negotiate with the restaurant a partial refund or alternate compensation. We are not allowed to refund any money unless approved by the restaurant.

With regards to the issue with the email from our contact page I'm currently investigating that with a colleague in order to resolve or work out if it is an isolated issue.

Can you please send in an email directly to socialmedia@hungryhouse.com your order ID so that I can find the case and pass the information on to my manager to follow up internally? I will also see if there is anything more I am able to do in the way of compensation for what I understand has been a really dreadful experience.

Terrible Service I will Never Order From Hungryhouse Again

Ordered food through hungryhouse from the Marina Fish bar in Harlow the food turned up cold and with some items missing on contacting the fish bar they advised as I had gone through hungryhouse they would have to contact them. Went online waited for an advisor got through eventually got cut off waited again 43rd in the queue when they finally contacted the fish bar they refused a refund as it had taken to long for hungry house to contact them and felt they didn't really argue my case at all. I made a complaint to hungry house I was offered credit with them which I refused eventually they agreed to refund my bank account after arguing my case. I will never use this company again or Marina fish bar after the poor experience with them both.

Disgusting service!

I ordered from Hungry House as I have many times. However, the order arrive an hour late and then was completely inedible! The only thing that tasted okay was the prawn crackers! We tried our hardest to eat the food but after the third bite we were almost gagging. We are now out in the freezing cold trying to find us some dinner!

I don't like to cause issues and I don't like to raise complaints but I have never eaten a worse take away!

Please advise the best way to proceed, I would like a refund and also compensation for our us having for inconvenience caused having to now go out in the freezing cold and not eating out dinner until after 9 when we have work early.

I contacted the customer services and received awful service from someone who was visibly annoyed with me because I would not accept 20% or £3 compensation for a meal I could not eat!

Very sorry to hear of the experience you had when ordering with one of our partner restaurants! We do have systems in place that monitor restaurants which can result in consequences for them if issues persist, though in terms of refunds as the food is provided by the restaurant is is something we need to get them to agree with, I do hope you did leave a review for them at least as this does have a large effect on the restaurants placement.
