Connectd offers a well-thought-through platform for seasoned professionals who are either seriously thinking about transitioning to working on a fractional basis (what used to be known as a portfolio career) or as an NED or Board Advisor. You can choose one of these three pathways and structurally the delivery of pathways are the same: you need to complete 10-20 hours of online training before "unlocking" access to your mentor and pro-bono placement. Some people may not like the structure but, for me, I liked it a lot as it follows a logical pattern and the training is set at an appropriate level: deep enough to question why you want this transition and make sure you are readying yourself for it but not too deep or technical to put someone new to this area off of it.
In my experience: as soon as I completed the training I received a call from Connectd the very next day with the offer of a pro-bono placement. I was paired with a a high-performing, second time founder who was an expert in her field - as a CFO/Finance lead I was able to add value from day 1. Connectd also has a good range of mentors who you can pair with to support you through your placement and beyond as you look to take on new roles and work opportunities. It is not an easy path and Connectd does not claim that it is but I believe it's one of the most structured platforms to try and help you make this transition on the market. You will also find a lot of start-up businesses on the platform that you can approach as well as some job opportunities.
My only complaint is that Connectd I found the follow-up/ongoing support from during my placement to be inadequate but I understand that this resourcing here is being improved - I was close to knocking the score to a 4* as a result but overall Connectd have delivered on my (high) expectations which is why I gave it 5.

Don't waste your money or time with Connectd
Early in the engagement, I was paired with a mentor who was unreliable from the start. They didn't follow through on commitments and missed a scheduled meeting entirely, with no notice or explanation.
Connectd's support also fell far short of expectations. In my last meeting with my main point of contact, the call ended with him committing to several action items he'd follow up on. Months went by without a word. The only time anyone reached out was when my auto-renewal was about to trigger, and it was only after I replied asking to cancel that they suddenly wanted to hop on a call. After more back and forth over email, their final message to me was "I'll raise your case with our team to see if there's anything else we can do." Two months later, I still haven't heard back.
Across the entire engagement, I never received the support I was promised and paid for. Nothing was done to set me up for success. It felt like a money grab with no follow-through. Based on my experience, it was a complete waste of money and I can't recommend it.

A Great First Step into Board Advisory
I had a great experience with Connectd and would happily recommend the Board Advisor Academy.

Very structured program
Very structured program. Good training material and once I was done with the advisor training I was able to get an advisor position. Even if you already have one, the site lets you connect with other companies for more opportunities. The one thing I noticed is that a lot of startups look for GTM advice so if you’re on the technical front you’ll have a bit less opportunities

Connectd had both positives and challenges.
My experience with Connectd had meaningful positives, especially given the long runway of the Texture 2‑year agreement. The onboarding and staff orientation were clear, well‑structured, and easy to follow, which made getting started straightforward. The mentorship program was the strongest part of the platform and provided real value throughout my time in the program.
It did take nearly three months to secure a placement, and I ultimately invested in membership fees and six months of pro‑bono work without seeing a direct ROI. While the traction was slower than expected, I appreciated the professionalism of the team and the support provided along the way, particularly through mentorship. The experience gave me insight into how Connectd operates and how founders and advisors can collaborate within the platform.

From punching the clock to pursuing my passion
I joined Connectd with the hope of sharing my research, experience, and methodologies in improving organizational alignment, execution, and performance with start-ups. Within a few months, I landed my pro-bono placement with a start-up that shares my passions, in this case in the world of healthcare. I am now functioning in the role of Fractional COO working closely with the founder to prepare for the initial launch of a global platform to improve medical education, leadership, and patient outcomes. We are also in the process of discussing equity and profit sharing arrangements as part of my continued involvement. I would highly recommend Connectd to anyone who has more to offer the world than just punching the clock to make someone else rich.

I worked with Nathaniel, and he has secured 3 high value advisors for our startup.
I had a slight issue with onboarding my business docs to complete registration, however, from sending an email for support I was on a teams call with Harriet within an hour and got it all sorted in 5 minutes.
The follow-up support has been fantastic, and the network is high value.
As a first time founder, I can't recommend connectd enough.

Charges consultants/advisors a fee, not the companies
Contacted me recently, and sounded interesting until I realized it was just a sales call. They charge "advisors" rather than companies, which makes zero sense. There's a company out there looking for a senior advisor, and will to pay the extremely high hourly rate that you would charge, but isn't willing to pay a fee to the recruiter? Yeah, come on. Makes zero sense. I'd be surprised if any company is really hiring from this place. As soon as I realized they just wanted to sell me some expensive service, I dropped the call. Complete waste of time.

Did not deliver what was promised
Not really for me - I'm less inclined to the old-fashioned way of doing things, had no matches and have found no roles that work for me.
Not found a mentor that works for me either.
Training was ok, but nothing revolutionary. Found roles elsewhere of my own accord.
Subscription portal typical where theres no cancellation option and no contact details so they are hoping to get you auto-renewed for 12 months without challenge.
Not for me, sorry.
Updated - they reached out to me only after this review, so I have dropped to one star. Also i echo what others say about classification of what is a startup, some of the opportunities are barely a company and I dont think there is any strict criteria on what is accepted. I have also received emails from people from connectd sharing relevant roles which weren't relevant so its clear the knowledge or training internally isnt great. Thats £2880 down the drain....

The onboarding was quick and straightforward, supported by a friendly, responsive, and knowledgeable team. The community felt welcoming from the start, and the advisor certification program was a valuable refresher on best practices that helped build my confidence.
One of the biggest benefits has been the quality of the network. I was paired with a highly experienced mentor in my field and region, and I’ve been struck by the caliber of advisors, operators, and founders on the platform. Great for transitioning from an exec to portfolio career
I have recently completed the Board Advisor programme with Connect'd and have found it useful in transitioning from an executive to a portfolio career. The main benefits from my perspective were (1) the training/webinars which put clear definition around terms such as board advisor/NED/fractional etc. which the industry uses interchangeably; (2) the chance to try out the role with a company and (3) the mentorship I received throughout the programme. It definitely helped me to 'cross the chasm' between career phases with guidance from those who have already successfully completed the journey.
