DO NOT MINE WITH COMPASS!! I have been a customer for several years now. They were good when I started working with them, got great for a second last year with some overhauls to their support and website and are now trying to rip me off more than any crypto company since FTX. They literally built a dashboard on my Compass account that has no correlation to my actual mining account. They have been using their BS data to try to rip me off. My miners have experienced SIGNIFICANT DOWNTIME this year and when I contact support they make BS claims about what their dashboard shows compared to what the hard data from my pool shows. It's extremely frustrating and takes away any benefit from mining vs. just buying BTC. My guess is their ship is sinking and they are trying to take as many people down with it as they can. STAY AWAY!
Compass is much improved from then to now.
I have been contracting with Compass Mining since October of 2021. My experience is as stark as night and day over the past four plus years. The early years were rough and not so ready and offline times where costly and frustrating. Recently services have improved greatly but the trick is knowing what is available through Compass and how to access it.
The company has made major improvements in customer assistant over the past year or two, to the extent that I have decided to continue to work with them. I did not make that decision without much consideration however.
Compass provides three services that I find to be very useful. They provide a marketplace for used equipment, they provide repair services, and they provide a “loaner” equipment service when my ASIC are in for repair or moving to another facility. With the advent of the loaner miner service I have been able to keep equipment online, the most critical concern of mine.
My recent experience with Compass has been very good, I found cost effective miners to upgrade to and I was able to trade-in older gen miners and receive deposit refunds. This exchange met all of my goals and made it practical to continue mining.
The sales department recently provided much additional value as I was considering my options to upgrade equipment, they assisted me in finding additional savings as I moved to next gen miners.
Three years ago my rating would have been 2 but today it is a solid 4 and moving up.

Poor Resolution Process
I’ve been mining with Compass Mining for over 4 years. The first year was solid, with very few issues. In the second year, problems started—miners would go down for long periods with no resolution, and downtime was not always credited properly. That period was rough.
To their credit, Compass later improved. They introduced a more proactive ticketing system and clearer downtime tracking, and for a while this actually worked well.
Unfortunately, the last year has been the worst. While ticketing is now automated, there is often no actual human response for weeks at a time, and there is no way to escalate a ticket. This means a miner can sit offline for months with no meaningful update or accountability.
When a miner breaks, the system asks you to choose options like repair, retire, or ship back. But after selecting an option, you just receive the same automated ticket and email repeatedly—sometimes 5–6 times—until a person finally looks at it.
Compass clearly needs more human support staff and a real escalation path. Without that, customers risk having expensive equipment offline for months with no resolution in sight.

Have purchased miners and mined with compass.
Over payed for the miners massively, you could argue my own fault. I have overpayed for BTC 80% of the time. Watch out for the little known rule that your miners can be offline for periods without compensation.
Also the alerts from the mining pool of your miners being offline do not correspond with the audit of compass's credits for loss of mining time.
When you complain you are referred to the company’s rules &policies, so read them well. Or better still, don’t and steer clear of Compass.
Buy BTC or mine it. But don’t mine it through Compass, you’ll be better off paying spot for BTC with the money you pay to them. I would have been.

Extremely Disappointed — Avoid Hosting with Compass Mining
I’m currently hosting multiple ASICs with Compass Mining and have faced nothing but frustration and financial loss due to poor support, lack of transparency, and unacceptably long repair delays.
Three of my miners have been offline for weeks — some for over 2 months — and despite multiple tickets, follow-ups, and promised timelines, no clear solutions or timelines have been provided. Here’s what I’m experiencing:
• ASIC “HMVT” offline since August 12 (s21 xp 270ths)
• ASIC “HUWM” offline since August 29 (s21 pro 230ths)
• ASIC “HMVV” submitted for repair on October 20 — still no update (s21 xp 270ths)
Even after raising several support tickets and contacting Customer Success agents directly, I’ve received nothing but vague responses, repeated apologies, and no real action. One unit failed less than 7 days after activation — and no replacement or refund was provided.
The downtime credit system is obscure and not clearly explained. Credits don’t seem to reflect the actual offline duration, and getting any update about them requires multiple reminders.
To make matters worse, my miners often experience daily interruptions, frequent offline periods, or underhashing — and again, no accountability from the hosting side.
If you’re considering hosting with Compass Mining, think twice. The lack of urgency, poor customer service, and unreliable hosting infrastructure make this a high-risk, low-reward operation. Until Compass proves it can take responsibility for equipment uptime and customer communication, I strongly recommend staying away.
I will continue to update this review monthly to reflect whether things improve — but for now, I cannot recommend Compass Mining to anyone serious about their mining operation.
Great Hosting Expericen
I have been mining with compass for about 4 years now. Colby Noe has been a great help getting me setup and hashing thought the years. I have gotten better deals with Compass compared to other big hosting companies. For us small fish, they offer in house financing with 50% down which helped me scale quickly! I will be at 750Th/s in a week or 2 ! 💪

Compass consistently overpromises and fails
This company consistently overpromises and underdelivers.
I purchased a miner in April, and it has been consistently down for more than 70% of the time.
It's only been up and running maybe 30% of the time if i am being generous
They decided they're going to close the Texas 6 facility. They gave me the option to swap my minor out for one that was online or wait until they move the miners. I asked for the switch - nothing has happened in two months.
I was assigned a temporary miner for a while and was told that I would have until the swap was complete. It was online for a bit and then went down. Came back up for a week and has been offline for two weeks.
No definite word on when any miner will be up and running. Other than that, we are working on it, and thank you for your patience
Every time they give me a time frame, they fail to deliver on it, and at this point, I have no hashing miner.
Additionally, I just received my November invoice. I only own one miner, and they're trying to charge me for two miners at the Texas 6 facility. I have not had a miner online for even half the time, but they are trying to bill for TWO miners hashing the whole month - double - this is insane.
Customer service is atrocious.

Update 10/19/2025: even though they said they will reach out, they have not.
Update 10/28/2025 - zero resolution except the usual "thank you for your patience" non sense

After reading some reviews I was a little hesitant to signup, but my experience initially was very good. Then the last 3 days the miner was down because of curtailment, after contacting support I was informed that you do not receive credits unless it is over 5% (36 hours). This is a terrible rule and means profitability is massively reduced.
I suggest anyone thinking of signing up to calculate your net profits based on 95% uptime.

Recommended hosting company
Just bought my 6th miner and they had it hashing for me the same day. Couple down times but the up time is never below the contracted 95%. Won't hesitate to buy more. I host with 3 different hosting companies, I have no issues with Compass. I recommend.

Frequent Downtime
I would not recommend using Compass Mining. I've been mining for two months and virtually every day has an outage for a few hours, I assume due to overheating. Earlier this month, my miner was down for more than 72 hours. In a new incident, it has been down for over 100 hours now.
Outage credits are provided, sure, but the economics here were contingent on 95% uptime and I'm nowhere near that. My IRR would've been better just buying Bitcoin directly.
It's also disappointing that I seem to have to tell them that my miner isn't hashing. I get a response within 12 hours or so but then it goes cold and I have to follow up.
UPDATE 1: It's almost shameful that this post got a reply from them after 9 hours but, after five days, I still await a response from the technical team as to why my miner is down. It also appears they didn't really read my comment as I did not mention the KYC process (which wasn't an issue [EDIT - they subsequently updated their response without mentioning KYC]).
UPDATE 2: It's now August 15. My miner stopped hashing on July 25. The last update I have is that it's "in the queue to be checked and diagnosed" on August 4. I followed up on August 11 and no response.

Compass sent me my refund for the payments I made while my miner was off. They were very kind, professional and solved the issue. I left one star out because I just don't think mining is for me.

5 stars for Tatum
I wanted to leave this review to highlight the efforts of a particular Compass employee by the name of Tatum. I’ve been mining with Compass since 2021 and since that time I’ve had an overall positive experience. The situation that brings me to leave a review is regarding an ASIC that required 4 repairs in one year. This particular ASIC was given to me as compensation for an S19XP that was unrepairable following an incident in Texas that left a large number of these models unrepairable. In the span of this year requiring 4 repairs, I was told that the hashboard went bad time and time again and that this kind of thing happens. I can’t blame the messenger as I’m sure they’re not onsite to examine the ASIC and are only being told what they hear back from the facility. However, I have several other miners with compass and have never experienced this before. Needless to say I was extremely frustrated as each repair comes with a cost (which I absolutely understand) but now the total cost of the repairs was now almost half of what the machine was worth.
After receiving the same feedback over and over and feeling helpless, I reached out to Tatum and received more education, help, and valuable feedback than I had ever expected. He explained why this was happening, offered solutions, and ultimately gave me the tools I needed to make a sound decision regarding this ASIC. I found Tatum’s communication, problem-solving, dedication to his craft, and skill to be superlative in nature. His knowledge regarding ASICs and Bitcoin mining are just incredible to say the least and I cannot thank him enough for helping me out and explaining my situation to me in great detail. This is so very much appreciated because I only know the basics of Bitcoin mining and to have someone dumb things down for me and take their time was so needed. In a world where customer service can leave people feeling frustrated from time to time, Tatum made me feel like my frustrations mattered. Thank you!

This bitcoiner is impressed
I have been impressed with my experience with compass mining along with the ROI thus far (I’m 30 days in, got my first BTC payout a week ago).
Colby has been a great contact/lead, and my support tickets have been answered fast.
I think the negative reviews are from people who misunderstand or miscalculate this investment. For most people, buying BTC directly is usually more profitable and simple. Bitcoin mining is dependent on a HOST of other factors which may or may not work in your favor.
I had the opportunity to buy 6 miners during the last bull market, late 2021. It would have been a huge mistake because they were pricey and the numbers that I put into a spreadsheet didn’t work. So had I blindly invested, I’d probably have had a sour experience.
Overall I’ve been happy with Compass Mining’s used miner deals, dashboard ease of use, quick mining on-ramp, and great customer service. Now keeping my fingers crossed that mining difficulty stays flat for a while…
