Allett sterling 43 mower
Recently purchased a brand new Sterling 43 mower from an Allett preferred partner. When the mower arrived I went through the assembly process only to discover that the 4 main bolts that hold the handle in place and the cover plate was missing from the packaging. Additionally the stub axles for the auxiliary front wheels were also missing. I reported this to Austin Garret direct who is the managing director of Allett who was extremely embarrassed, and told me that this would be dealt with, and that the missing parts would be sent to me. As I could not use the mower without the 4 missing bolts I decided to buy 4 that would temporarily work from screwfix. Upon completing the assembly it soon became clear that I had further more serious issues. The pin on the handlebar adjuster would not lock into place. Meaning that the handlebar would suddenly drop out and collapse whilst the mower was in use. I sent a video of this bd to Allett /Austin stating how dangerous this was. not to mention how disappointed I was having spent such a large amount of money on what is widely considered the Rolls Royce of lawn mowers. Allett arranged to have my mower collected and be returned to them for investigation. A few weeks later my mower was returned to with with some adjustments made along with the original missing bolts etc. I was and still am pretty cheesed off that there was no real apology or attempt to make up for the problems I had encountered. I fact even worse Allett thought that by sending me some strips of paper used for calibration of the cylinder blades this would be appropriate compensation for what I had endured. This I found just insulting. I even said to the managing director. I’ll let you decide if you think that was acceptable. To which he didn’t respond. Overall really disappointed and I would now say overpriced mower and not great quality and after service.
