I used Advantage Gold for a Self-Directed IRA precious metals purchase and had a bad experience with pricing transparency.

I made a six-figure silver purchase through my SDIRA and was quoted a per-coin price over $100 for a specific silver coin. Within days, I found the same coin publicly available from other major national dealers for well under $80 per coin. The difference added up to well over $30,000 compared to what I could have paid in the open market.

When I raised the issue and asked for an itemized written explanation of the pricing (markup/spread, any commissions, and any IRA/depository/logistics fees included in the price), I was repeatedly steered toward phone calls instead of receiving clear written documentation. The tone felt pushy and geared toward getting the transaction completed quickly.

They strongly emphasized that SDIRA accounts are “self-directed” and that they are not a fiduciary, meaning they are not obligated to act in your best interest. I initially believed they were helping guide me in a retirement investment decision, but in practice it felt like they were primarily protecting their own profit margins.

My advice if you’re considering Advantage Gold:

Get the full quote in writing (per-unit price + all fees/premiums)

Compare pricing across multiple reputable dealers before approving

Ask for the buyback price and calculation method (spot +/- premium) in writing

Don’t allow yourself to be rushed — “do it now” pressure benefits the dealer, not you

If you’re not comfortable doing your own comparisons and protecting yourself on pricing, I would not recommend using them for SDIRA metals purchases. I left this transaction feeling misled and pressured, with very little confidence in the pricing.

Quick transaction process. It only took one day to buy silver. Excellent customer service. I have only one problem with all metal dealers. When buying any of the metals the price of the metal on the day of purchase is never given. Only the price of product , quantity ,date and merchandize total is given.
