AWFUL customer service.
no clear helpdesk email and have had to chase so many times to hear back from someone in head office and still haven't had my issue resolved which i raised in May. they're very happy to take your money but radio silence when it comes to refunds/assist with membership issues which is so disappointing when you're paying so much for a membership.
Before going in to the reformer pilates class my lartner and I were told we couldn't go in without buying a specific pair of socks for £12 each. There was no mention of this when booking the class and I wouldn't have gone if I'd known ahead of time, it brought the class price up to £37 (each) which is absurd.
I booked a Reformer Pilates session with 1Rebel Bayswater. Was there just before the start of the session and I was refused entry. Apparently if first time at 1Rebel had to arrive 10mins earlier for an induction. I have done Pilates 1000+ times at different studios so it wasn't my first time. Apparently it meant the first time at 1Rebel! I done it reformer pilates at lots of different studios across London and this has never been a requirement. IF SO THEY NEED TO MAKE IT VERY CLEAR BEFORE BOOKING. I was told it was mentioned in the confirmation email:
1) On the email it says if it is your first time and NOT clear whether first time Pilates or first time at 1Rebel studio
2) This is mentioned at the bottom of a long email whilst this is not NORM
I was fuming as I had driven 45mins to get to the studio and also lost my credits.
Even worse, st the reception I spoke to Georgia (Wed 02 Aug 2023 at 19:45- Bayswater) who refused to give me her full name because she was super rude. I am sure she could have handled the situation a lot better, and not aggravating it.
I've signed up for the 3 months unlimited membership. Was charged for missing a class £15, which i thought it's terrible for them especially when I tried canceling 8 hrs before. But their 12 hr policy is ridiculous, however, I was till fine with it. As my 3rd month came to an end. I was still charged £240 for a fourth month as they continue with your membership if you do not cancel in advance. I have tried to email them asking for my refund but they still would not do it.
Really disappointed. Had great hopes for 1rebel but it fell short. Lockers don't work in changing rooms which means you have to wait around after class for the cleaners to come and get your belongings out of the locker. The class (spin) itself was average as classes go. The instructor was unhelpful and didn't help me set the bike up or click in with the spin shoes, not great if you're a complete beginner or like me never been to a spin class with such bikes. I wasted the first 5mins of the class trying to get set up whist the other regular spinners around me started the class. Very much in and out machine with little to no customer focus. Its just a class and every customer is just an extra 20 odd quid. Zero customer experience. The class itself was ok but I have had much better and much cheaper spin classes at my local gyms. Expected something bigger and better at 1rebel. Not the case. The club uses the venue, location, flashing lights and good music system as its main selling point whilst ignoring the basics like the customer focus and good class teaching.
I have two more classes booked on my trial hoping the reformer class will be better.
I had a good time in Victoria. The ride class with Vicky was really good and the host Emilio was very kind, he helped me with everything. I recommended to try the 1rebel in Victoria.
Been a member for many years and enjoy the experience. A lot depends on having a good instructor which is valid for 60% of the time.
The biggest downside with 1Rebel is if something goes wrong. This week I signed up to a promotion and they made a mistake in the system but would not honour the deal. To the extent I have raised a complaint with trading standard. But it was hugely annoying as I’ve been a member for 7 years (and still will be) but they just couldn’t believe that they were wrong.
1Rebel is an outstanding fitness facility that combines excellent amenities with an energetic and motivating atmosphere. What truly sets this gym apart is the passionate staff who create a positive and inclusive environment for all members.
I have been a 1rebel member for a year (under Eleanor Cobbe), currently on a 5-session-a-month pass. I have been to classes at Victoria, Oxford Circus and Holborn and tried Ride, Rumble, Reformer and Reshape.
I really enjoy the classes and think they're well thought-out and well balanced sessions with good trainers.
Pros
- More affordable than similar gyms (Psycle)
- Majority of trainers are really good and I've never had any issues with classes being cancelled.
- Good mix of class styles.
Cons
- This is the major one for me - the cancellation fee for missing a class and how they deal with honest mistakes or genuine reasons for cancelling. In my year as a member I have come up against this twice - once when I was extremely ill suddenly and couldn't make my class and once this morning. In the first scenario, I was met with skepticism and forced to submit a doctor's note to avoid the cancellation charge, despite never having missed a class before which I found extremely invasive. The second happened this morning where at 8:49 I booked what I thought was a 9:45am class for the following Monday but which turned out to be the same day. When I emailed to apologise and explain my mistake, they refused to waive the penalty despite there being multiple available beds when I booked so it's very unlikely they could have found another member to book in the 50 mins before class. I was previously a member of Psycle and I can guarantee you that they would have waived the charge in the same scenario.
- Shower area can be a bit bleak depending on the club, OC in particular is quite often scummy looking and outdated.
I have recently been considering upgrading my membership to the 8 sessions per month but the above issues put me off and leave a bad taste in the mouth. If they switched the strike system then a lot of these reviews would be more positive I suspect.
I signed up for a pack of 3 lessons to do Reformer. Have done many similar classes at other studios. I booked the class online. I attended the induction session prior to the class. As soon as the class started there were blue fluorescent strips that were flashing on and off above me in a strobe effect. I suffer from migraines which can be triggered by flashing lights. I asked the teacher if he could turn them back to unflashing and the instructor refused stating that they were part of the atmosphere of the class. When I asked for a refund both people I spoke to claimed that the strobe lighting is noted on the website. When I checked there is nothing noted on the website description of the class nor when booking. The person also claimed that the strobe effect is noted on the lesson confirmation. Again this is not the case. None of the telephone numbers are correct for the head office.
Would not recommend - really bad customer service and they do not let you in the class if you are 50 seconds late.
Ruby Padwick was incredible, first time at rig and she made me feel very comfortable and confident! Her teaching style was encouraging and skilful ! Thank you 🙏🏼
It’s horrible service. You cant be 2 mins early because, thats late already and then you wont be let in the class. Staff are xenophobic with foreign people. Instructure doesnt even look at you. Lots or running a prone to injuries.
I went to a spin class in Liverpool Street the other day, and Abdallah was amazing! He was so motivational and was such good vibes. I'll be returning :)
friendly staff, loads of classes, amazing equipment, safe space!
Financial anxiety but no better treatment if you're an "unlimited" member!
I adore the classes and if you want to see results and can 100% commit without any worry about what life throws at you - go for it - but signing up for the 6-month unlimited membership back in September has given me so much financial worry and anxiety / the most I've ever experienced being locked into a contract.
Despite paying £170 a month for membership, you are charged £15 if you cancel in less than 12 hours - if you have family commitments, unexpected work issues or travel disruptions, it's an absolute nightmare and you're treated no differently even though you're spending this money.
You also get to freeze your membership for two weeks - but this is only as a block. I've been a member of F45 and Crossfit, no one else is this strict.
I tried to get out of the membership back in October due to financial issues and not being in London as much as I'd originally thought, and I was unable to get out of it without having to pay a hefty sum. I did end up being able to be in London, and 1rebel was ultimately communicative and helpful, but it's still a fact - don't sign up for unlimited without knowing exactly what your future is going to hold.
My membership is now finally at an end and it's a massive weight off my shoulder, however, I've just been charged as a no-show for a session I did cancel over 12 hours ago! I've just sent an email explaining this and hoping it'll be rectified - UPDATE, they've replied saying I did indeed cancel, but I cancelled the wrong one:
"I understand this must have been an accident however, as this is a peak class, I am unable to offer you a refund at this time. These classes get very busy and ultimately that space could've been given to another Rebel"
So despite the fact I have spent £1020 on this membership and they can see I made a mistake, it's cost me an extra £15. I actually feel close to tears with frustration and am so relieved that this membership is finally over.
Really disappointed in the customer service following a purchase of the intro package. Unfortunately I've been unable to use this but am being told because I scheduled (and subsequently cancelled a class withing ample time) that's enough to invalidate the cancellation policy. Not that this is stated on the ts and cs. Having used many boutique gyms in London this is definitely the worst service I've received!

Amazing classes. Although maybe customer services could be a little better.
I really like the classes at 1Rebel but find their freezing of membership quite unfair. I travelled home for Christmas and was unable to go to the gym for over 3 weeks yet I was only allowed to pause my membership for 2 weeks ( even though the gym itself was closed for Atleast 4 days depending on the location). I understand it is a business looking to make money but I feel this is quite unfair for its customers. I also think you should be able to pause due to illness based on the fact the membership is quite expensive. I feel because people cannot pause they are more likely going to come to class while unwell due to feeling guilty about spending so much on a membership. This of course in turn leads to the spreading of illnesses. The gym is great but I think the terms of membership are quite unfair compared to the price paid and this will really put me off renewing my membership.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER.
I have a membership and am constantly on the waitlist for classes - I reached out to their team in an efforts to cancel early (as I can never book) and they were the most unhelpful ever, simply said "There's nothing I can do to help you".
The classes are great but AVOID the membership.
