Botched & broken system.
I arrived 12:14 for a 12:15 appointment. While paying for socks inside the gym it got to 12:16 and these people wouldn’t let me in. Claiming the door is locked which isn’t! While in the gym people go for bathroom breaks and I have been In there. Wasting peoples time and money is not the way to go. Clearly they are used to handling matters in Barbaric ways. So disappointed. I just signed up with a better gym in Knightsbridge and I was sure to ask about their policy on one minute late coming. Understandably they responded that such policy should be considered assured!!!
Do NOT use 1Rebel. I left my credit with them. Horrible experience. I’m glad this happened in my trial period!
Terrible T&Cs, terribly inflexible and unclear membership/pass terms made me lose £100s. The order receipt and online account/“my packages” page do not state you’ll be charged multiple times. HORRIBLE, RUDE customer service at front desk & with GM.
The only reason they get one star is because the trainers are excellent! I can’t fault the classes however the management are awful, they care more about taking your money than providing you a service!
I’m surprised they are able to run with the attitude of their staff and management. They have completely ruined our experience and for that we will never go again nor will I recommend them. It’s such a shame as we enjoyed the classes.
I was really swayed by reviews, so here is my experience.
I’m a class person, and this was near, so I thought I should try it.
First: aside from a brief mid-afternoon dead zone, there is pretty much a class kicking off every hour or half hour. If you have a weird or changeable schedule, it’s great.
The classes are largely a mix of Barry’s-lite, reformer (which sits somewhere between reformer and megaformer), and spin in the places I frequent.
You do get a nice mix of attendees, it’s not all threateningly svelte.
The classes themselves are an 8-8.5 on the scale of the best in class in each of the areas (eg v soul cycle, Barry’s). You will not get the best best version of your fav class, but you’ll get a really really great version of a variety. When I spotted my shoulders were growing a little fast from reshape, I could just pivot to reformer. As a really frequent class goer, class pass offers the same but is just not cost effective.
In terms of luxury, it’s more ‘good job in PR’ than trust fund. What I REALLY value and is 5 star though, is they’ve bothered with the details. They don’t nickel and dime for towels, you don’t have to remember your water as you are given a reusable bottle (which they will clean for you) to fill with filtered tap water. I really resent clubs which charge a 3-figure membership and pull out the credit card machine when you want to get a shower or a drink. Here you’ll have a soft towel, plus a scented cooled one after class.
The teams are friendly and clearly get along with each other and the trainers have wonderful energy. You book your slot in the room so you are not scrabbling for a good spot on the day.
A dealbreaker for me were the reviews stating meanness around missed classes. Thankfully that hasn’t been my experience. When TFL has let me down, they’ve waived fees and given back credits. With a busy London life this matters.
Re: wait lists - people suck, and late cancel fees give little impetus for folks to bother pinging on a last minute change. But showing up right before a class can often bag you a slot.
Basically if, like me, you like to just show up and do what you’re told, want a bunch of options and don’t want to spend a million pounds on class pass to make varied classes a viable daily option and have broader ‘I just want to work out for fun/blast a bunch of calories’ goals, you can do a helluva lot worse.
If they had a zen option as well it would be nigh-on perfect full coverage. Recommend.
Ps
when I’m tired, injured or cba I just hit a speed rate lower than the recommended. The world doesn’t end.

I enjoy the workouts and heave been using 1Rebel for a number of years, but the terms are so unhelpful and inflexible. Had to cancel a class today as I have a migraine and had fainted at work but there was no way of avoiding losing the session pass. So that’s £25 wasted where it would have been unsafe for me to attend. Seems really unreasonable for such an expensive brand when you compare it to competitors.

Used to love 1rebel but their Ts and Cs are unreasonable. I joined a waitlist. Didn't receive a notification until 40 minutes before the class. Because I was taking my son to nursery and travelling to work I didn't see the notification and missed it. No refund, no credit reimbursed. £25 wasted for nothing and the customer service at St Mary Axe are so unkind and dismissive. I will never go to 1rebel agaib which is such a shame

Overpriced and overrated. The staff at the front desk were so rude and unapproachable. I got the newbie £49 trial at Angel branch and used 2-of-3 passes. Facilities very crowded. Can’t get over how stand-offish the front desk team were. It’s crazy because in the actual class they come across all bubbly and approachable. So fake. No reminders were sent after the first sign up email. An additional £15 to extend access (total for 3 classes becomes £64!) but only if you remember the passes expire in the first place! As others have rightly said, feels like a scam. Awful experience. Avoid.

Although I cannot fault the trainers who take the classes, there are so many rules and regulations to having a membership which means so far I am £100 out of pocket in 3 months. If you buy a monthly pass, you cannot cancel classes so you are either forced to go or charged £15 if you cant ( i.e what happened to me because of a train strike and because of an injury) . The customer service is extremely inflexible nor understanding and clear they are only in it to take money and will take this over your health and wellbeing. This really lets down the gyms core values! Would not recommend

Anyone knows which email to submit my complaint to their head office?
The Oxford circus team is not well organized and have completely no idea about their policy and will mislead people. I left my water bottle this Friday evening (3 days ago) and rang them Saturday morning 7:45am.
A lady picked up the call and said they had my bottle, I asked her if it is okay to pick up next week. She said sure as they would keep the lost items for 2 weeks.
Today, on Monday, I came to collect my bottle, at the beginning a guy said all bottles cannot be kept due to hygiene reasons — and then they told me all the items will be cleared and thrown away at the end of each week.
The guy who is working at the bar said he is the manager, he walked over to confront me and said they cannot do anything about it but only “sincerely” apologize (with an aggressive attitude) to me that I was given the wrong information.
They refused to verify who gave me this wrong information and said “you lost your water bottle, go buy yourself a new one.” Then walked away and said they had some other stuff to do— Very rude and disrespectful behavior.
I would not recommend this studio as clearly they don’t care about their customers. The team is very rude, especially that manager.

Unsafe classes. The reformer Pilates class at Broadgate is way too big it’s actually unsafe. It has over 25 machines and there is no way the instructor can pay attention to that many students. I wouldn’t go back.
I was a victim of aggressive and threatening behaviour at Oxford Circus by another customer. Although 1Rebel claims to be "inclusive", "zero tolerance to abuse" and "welcome for all" they do not have a clear anti-racism and diversity inclusion policy. To add insult to injury, my complaint was completely ignored. No response. Not even an email to say we're looking into it. I know they received my email as they sent flowers but no acknowledgment of what transpired and/or what they will do to ensure it doesn't happen again to anybody, customer or member of staff alike. My friends that also go there have reached out to them out of concern for me but they responded to them and refused to discuss on the basis of GDPR. If you want a safe place to workout, I would avoid this place! Remember, this can happen to you!
The classes are always full, to get into any of them you have to book days in advnace
Arrived at a class today at the Angel branch (12.30pm). The trainer Nik, I thought, was very unprofessional. At the beginning of the session, Nik asked if anyone had any injuries. I didn't speak up because I have been to this class several sessions beforehand. However, during this session, my knees started playing up. So instead of continuing with the incline. I reduced the incline to suit my ability. Nik then publicly embarrassed me on the microphone, calling me disrespectful and singling me out. I would have appreciated it if Nik came over and spoke to me rather than trying to humiliate me. I would have had a lot more respect for him. I will not be going to any more of his sessions. Real let down because the sessions that I had previously attended were fantastic!
arrived 10 minutes early for my pilates class at the oxford circus location. I had never been to 1 rebel before but had done reformer pilates many times. checked in with a very nice girl at the desk before i went to my locker. she asked me if i had done pilates before and i told her i had but not here. she said that’s ok and that if i want to i can go in five minutes early for an instruction on the reformers if i wish. after i was finished putting my belongings in my locker i went over to the door (they had just announced that the 5 minute introduction was starting). when i got to the door a man asked me if i had done pilates here before. i said no but i’m experienced with the reformer. he said that I’d be unable to partake in the session i had paid for that day (at this point it is still 5 minutes before the class starts). when i asked why he said that since I had never been there before it was mandatory to partake in the instructional thing before the class. the girl beforehand did not mention this. (also we could see into the class and this instructional thing had not even began yet). He then said let me see what i can do. He walked into the studio (where people were waiting for the class to begin) and we watched him walk in with his laptop, not speak to anyone, stand there for a minute and walk back outside to us where he told us it was now too late for us to join in. He literally pretended to go talk to someone and then said that by the time he came out it was too late for us to take the class😭😭???? we did get a refund for that class but he was very rude and definitely could have let us go into the class but wanted to be difficult. I have a few friends that have had bad experiences there as well. just go to heartcore or something.
I used to rave about 1Rebel classes to my friends and share them on social media, and am genuinely saddened about the aggression with which I was treated today.
1Rebel instructors wear headsets to they can be heard above the music in class. This is normally fine.
However, the instructor today was shouting AND using the microphone. This made the noise level unbearable, and it hurt my ears.
First, I attempted to cover my ears when she was shouting, so I could get the instructions, but not the damage.
But about 7 mins into the class, I realised I would not be able to work out for the whole class like that.
I asked her to turn down the noise level, but she chose not to.
I then had to leave the class, because I was concerned about long term damage to my eardrums.
I went to reception and told them about the issue.
They said they could not offer me a refund, because I would have to contact Classpass, which I have done
I also told the two women at reception that I love your studio, and want to work out there, but this noise level in that particular class is damaging. They said that
a) nobody has ever complained, and
b) offered me to buy headphones to protect my ears.
If nobody had ever complained about the noise level, why would you sell headphones to protect people's ears?
It seems that you knowingly create an issue, so customers have to pay to solve it.
This is unethical.
Various other unpleasant conversations followed, which I won't bore you with here.
I do genuinely think that the noise level is damaging, so be careful if you go.
I am also saddened about the aggression with which they chose to treat a repeat customer and fan.
There are lots of great fitness studios in London, and I'm going to give my money to those who treat me well.
Haven’t had a bad class! I love all the studios and the vibe. Been a member for about three years now after using in class pass for a couple years before. Must try classes: Martha’s Friday spin, Billy Reformer and Doms reshape - and abdullah spin too!
They charge a non-attendance fee even if you’ve paid for the class already. The fee is more than the cost of the class, so - if you get caught up - they get more than double amount without providing anything whatsoever. Money grabbers!!
Beware of them! 1Rebel behaves extremely unethically towards clients: I wanted to buy a few Walk-in classes, and as I later discovered entirely by accident, I ended up subscribing to a membership costing £1500 per year! I immediately informed them that it was a mistake! What do you think - they refused to terminate the contract and bombarded me with emails explaining that it was my fault. And they can't do anything! In other words, they simply don't want to. Of course, both parties can terminate the contract. They are just rare individuals seeking financial gain! Be warned
I love the workouts at this place. Really good facilities, clean, good trainers - cool vibe. Really good value given the locations.
The Victoria branch Customer Service is truly unpleasant, unkind and does not encourage attendees to feel safe. I will never go there again.
