Warning; the walnuts were shrivelled, black and very bitter.
I put in a large order for various seeds, dried fruit and nuts for my fig and walnut bread. However, when I measured out the walnuts I was horrified to see how black and shrivelled they were. I tentatively tried tasting one and it tasted very bitter. As I had already measured out the other ingredients and put them in the bread machine, I spent ages sorting through the walnuts trying to find enough half reasonable ones to add. I managed to find 150g of the least worst for the bread and put 60g of inedible ones to one side.
However, I am not intending to use any more of the walnuts as they are old and very poor quality.
Unhealthy Supplies say that they have looked at the batch and their reply was:"our Quality team ran a series of tests on the batch of Walnuts you told us about.
These have revealed no quality issues, and they have reported all the markers of this batch are as expected."
They don't say they tasted any. However I did and they were disgusting.
They have not offered me a refund for the walnuts so I will let Trading Standards have a look to see what they think.
My advice is, do not buy nuts from this company.
Having read their reply and other reviews, I see that Unhealthy Supplies have a reputation for unashamedly selling old, shrivelled, bitter nuts and pumpkin seeds that have very short use by dates and that they say are fine to eat. I can confirm that the walnuts they sent were, on the whole, extremely unpleasant to eat and likely to make you ill. They have offered me a £5 voucher for my next order. They are living in cloud cuckoo land if they think that I will ever waste my hard earned pension ordering their low grade rubbish again. I wouldn't even put these nuts out for the birds, that's how bad they are.
Update: they have now refunded me for the walnuts but it took this review to do it. A frustrating experience but I have now ordered walnuts from BWFO.
