Avoid, shocking and appalling behaviour...
I thought I had cancelled the membership, turned out it was only frozen (told when I called up) then they started taking money again. I cancelled the direct debit. They then sent an email threatening to charge me. Called up and they said unless I set up the direct debit again I couldn't cancel my account and they would send it to debt collectors. For £12.74 a month membership, disgusting behaviour and illegal as I can not been using the service at all!

its a body builders gym!
This review relates to the gym in Derby: I wasted a lot of time going to Puregym in Derby! I decided to have a free tour at xercise4less and signed up on the spot! xercise4less in Derby is much bigger than Derbys Pure Gym has 5 times more equipment (if not more). e.g there are 2 places to do cable chest flys at Puregym - this place has over 8 machines to do Chest Flyes! Pure Gym has 1 leg press - there are at least 4 Leg Press machines! xercise4less also have Hack Squats, Multiple Calf raise machines, 8 bench press machines + other benches, there is so much equipment, its a body builders gym! I just wish I had found this place sooner. Have a free tour and you WILL Sign up!

I am having the same issue with debt…
I am having the same issue with debt recovery company! I paid for a year's membership monthly was told I could cancel at any time after that with no charge... I continued to pay monthlyafter my initial year for quite a few months then cancelled via the app (as Instructed) I am now being hounded! I have emailed you using the link and heard absolutely nothing back! I am scared as I am a single parent and the reason I cancelled is because I was already in financial difficulty and now this added on top is causing unnecessary stress! Especially when I cancelled under advice from the staff!

I liked the xercise4less gym in speke Liverpool went for 4 years, but cancelled my direct debit to join a gym nearer to home. Harlands their direct debit payment company are asking for £177 for not cancelling my membership properly. I only signed a contract for a year and then paid on a monthly membership not a contract.
I was told by xercise4less staff upon signing up for a 12 month contract you can leave at anytime not giving 30days notice and paying an extra month payment. Please don't use this company they will stress you out, phoning you up at work demanding money off you.

I have been attending the Milton Keynes…
I have been attending the Milton Keynes branch for over a year now then out of the blue receive in a parking fine I told the staff in the gym nothin to was done now receiving letters from debt recovery services and lawyers because the system that stores the the car registration numbers is faulty. Now have to keep putting in my rag at the gym. I am not paying a fine for no reason.

Avoid this company
Avoid this company. Harlands, the company they use to administer your account are bordering on criminality when trying to end your contract after the 12 month contract period. They try every trick in the book to get more payments from you by saying you did not cancel your contract correctly. Treated disgustingly.

Fabulous
Fabulous. Don't rate Harland's though but the gym itself is amazing. I go to xercise4less Hillsborough. Norah so always so helpful and polite aswell. Staff are so friendly and smiley and make you feel welcome.the only criticism I have other than Harland's is pleeease add heavier kettle bells in the ladies only area. Otherwise amazing!!

DONT JOIN ITS A SCAM
joined the gym early 2019, making sure I can cancel the membership any time as I had an upcoming operation that would stop me from going, so when i signed up i spoke to a man at the gym and he said " take the more expensive membership so you can stop going any time, without telling me that i would have to cancel my mums direct debit but also go through a process of canceling the , membership ,my mum canceled the direct debit and that was that now i am having phone calls, texts messages saying that i owe the company moneny even do i didnt attend the gym and cancled the direct debit clearly showing that i dont want to go anymore , now i aparrantly owe the comany moneny wich is clealry un true as if i had to fo thro that process of canceing my membersip aswell i should have been told by the men i spoke to before joining the gym or whe i was sining up online, now i cant even cancel my membership without solving the whole debt sittuition, This is clearly a huge scam and i defnetly wouldt suggest the gym to anyone.

A Great Place to Exercise
Great place to exercise, plenty of equipment, nice atmosphere, the staff are friendly, very helpful and encouraging.
Mixed range of people all working towards different goals. No one makes you feel uncomfortable regardless of your size or ability/disability.
Overall, a really good gym that’s makes you want to keep going back!

Cheap affordable
Cheap! Cheap! Cheap!
Personally, Xercise4Less is the biggest and cheapest gym in the city by far ,none came close.
If your looking for a local, affordable and lovely gym where members can relate ,respect and help. You must definitely hit Xercise4less gym.
I also would highly recommend the classes with all the lovely, helpful members and did I mention the awesome Personal Trainers!

24/01/20 I paid My last payment for my 1 years membership and then cancelled my membership through my direct debit 27/01/20.
Today 27/02/20 I recieved my FIRST email that I am due xercise4less £83!!? Called Harlands and what horrible service I received.
So basically I am being charged £83 for just cancelling my direct debit and not filling out a leaving form.... A FINE FOR NO FILLING OUT A PIECE OF PAPER!!? Seriously?
It is very clear I have cancelled my membership genuinely ensuring it was after my 1 year membership but this isn’t good enough as my payment bounced. I offered to pay my last months payment that “bounced” but that still isn’t good enough???
Never heard anything so ridiculous.

Taking money after cancellation.
Cancelled my membership last November and still having money being taken out. I have tried to contact there customer service which didn’t do anything and the general manager which was just as bad. £16 a month for something I don’t know and which I have already cancelled is ridiculous and especially when I’ve tried to resolve it from November.

xercise4less have an absolutely…
xercise4less have an absolutely shocking payment process. I changed my bank and I needed to change my direct debit so I went on to the xercise4less website, visited the club account settings page and added in my new direct debit details. Little did I know though that updating my details on xercise4less's website was of course not how I would tell xercise4less about my new direct debit details! They use a third party payment provider called "harlands" to collect the monthly payment and it turns out that I have to visit their website to change my direct debit details. Because I did not know about this other company that xercise4less use to take their payments I have been charged a £25 "administation fee" even though I have reinstated the direct debit immediately when I was notified that the payment could not be taken. All of this was done via an automated system and I did not have to call anyone so these "harlands" jokers have made £25 for doing literally nothing. How on earth would I know that the direct debit section on the xercise4less website is not where I would update my direct debit details?! Abysmal customer service. My girlfriend and I will be looking to take our gym memberships elsewhere because of this.

Scamming bullies.
Utter scam of a company and just grotesque customer service.
Submitted a request to cancel my contract online as I’ve moved 4 hour drive away from the gym, and realised I was still being charged months later, so cancelled the DD. Hit with a penalty fee for doing this, and whilst emailing back and forth to sort this out I got another email saying ‘since we’ve not heard from you here’s ANOTHER PRNATLY FEE!’
Even though they’ve admitted to me they received my cancellation request some months ago they’re adamant it wasn’t successful, it’s my fault I’m getting these fees, and they cant possibly rectify it or remove any of the penalties. Not even the fee they slapped on whilst trying to sort the issue. The only way for me to sort this issue is to pay up and shut up.
So, here I am, 214 miles away from the gym, not used it in over 4 months, they’ve admitted they are aware I wanted to cancel but still demanding payment and threatening, yes threatening, MORE fees and legal action.
Utterly dismal treatment. But I guess that’s what you get for going ‘cheap’. And don’t be fooled by these copy-and-paste replies they put on these reviews. They’re not sorry to hear you’ve had a bad experience at all, because if they did give a damn about your experience they’d have actually given you some kind of customer service before it even got to this stage.
Will never use them again, and will actively discourage others from signing up. Wouldn’t even give them one star, but it’s the lowest I can go.

A couple of cons but overall a well worth the price
Pros: The price is fantastic. Cheapest I've seen anywhere.
The gym staff on reception seem friendly.
It's a spacious big gym with all the modern gym equipment available
It's not too busy and did I mention the price?
Cons: Not having a billing section/membership plan section/cancel membership option on the site is a not a good look.
Having to give 30 day notice to cancel a rolling monthly membership, meaning they're gonna charge you an extra month when you don't need it isn't a great look on them.
The gym staff are friendly but provide a very no-frills service, even during gym induction(which seemed to optional - health and safety?). I get it though that because of the cheap cost of membership, they are probably understaffed and aren't going to encourage gym walkaround inductions necessarily - shame though.
There was zero confirmation email of membership subscription, which would have been nice, since otherwise they love to send out advertising emails every other day to become a member for a fiver, when I'm already a member.
Improvements that could be made:
*Have a billing section on the website
*Send a new membership confirmation email
*Stop the advertising membership emails once people become members
Overall, the positives definitely outweigh the cons but something to consider.
If you want to exercise for less, don't join xercise4less.
I signed up for xercise4less on a student discount membership, was told the membership would last for a year. I then went into the branch to confirm that all payments would stop after the year to which I was told my membership would be cancelled as soon as the year was up. I wanted to cancel the contract there and then and was told by the employee that the account had been closed.
Following this, I continued to pay for the membership for a further 6 months after the contract. As soon as I realised what the payment was for I called my local branch who laughed me off the phone and told me 'our employees simply don't tell anyone that'. This annoyed me as they were calling me a liar for absolutely no reason. After they eventually told me the complaints process, I raised a complaint with the complaint team.
I got through to Josh. Josh didn't read anything that I had put in my emails to him and it took him 2 months and continuous emails to get my refund for the payments I was misinformed about. Despite repeatedly asking for over 2 months for the refund and for the account to be closed, I was then billed a further 2 times from Harlands for £37.79 each time. As I had already stated in my initial email that I thought my contract was cancelled and that I shouldn't have been paying the amount I was surprised to see this amount taken. That then took a further 2 months for my point to come across and for my email to be read properly for this payment to be refunded. After asking for my case to be escalated 3 times, my case was not escalated and was not dealt with until 8 weeks after my initial complaint. It was only on the 8th week of my complaint (just before I could approach the ombudsmen and the FCA) did my complaint get solved and my money refunded.
Xercise4less have agreed to now refund some of my payments back to me as I was clearly misinformed but now I have the uphill struggle of contacting Harlands for them to confirm the payment.
It shouldn't take 8 weeks to handle a simple complaint and query. I have now wasted my time and efforts on this because of staff misinforming customers. It's hardly 'xercise4less' if they're going to charge customers over 3 times the initial payment amount for a supposed missed payment twice and then create battle after battle for the customer.
Thoroughly disappointed with the level of customer service and lack of help I've received and will think twice about ever paying any monthly subscription to any gym due to the blatant lies I've been told by this company.

I only wanted to cancel my direct debit / membership with xercise for less and due to the gym incorrectly advising me they had cancelled on my behalf I have a collection fee incurred.
I have spoken to the Company offered to pay the final month and they refused to accept the money.
Cowboy operation do not deal with them.

Nightmare company if you want to cancel…
Nightmare company if you want to cancel your membership. Will make it as difficult as possible and charge you fees. If you don't like being ripped off then save yourself the hassle and frustration and use another gym.
It's not the gym that's bad it's how they handle your payments when you want to leave, need to cancel or have any payment issues .
Don't give them access to your bank.

In response to your fake (we want to help) reply and so other customers know about the service to expect:
I have been a member over a year and out of contract, despite this over the last 2 months due to me trying to end my membership I've been charged over £80.00 in fees. I've spoken to your customer services / Harlands Group and have received no help whatsoever only bad attitude and smug arrogance. I am still trying to cancel my membership.
It maybe your policy to rip off customers so I'll make it my policy to inform customers of the service I've received.
If this post puts off anybody from joining your so called people's gym then at least that will be my good service to them.
