I wanted to buy a particular DVD from… Umbrella Entertainment
I wanted to buy a particular DVD from this Home Media Outlet who also release their own copyrighted material on DVD, blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray. This particular DVD didn't have any subtitles which I needed as we have a HOH member of the family living with me. I asked Umbrella Entertaiment if they could put subtitles on it as it was their own produced product released for the BBC. They said something along the lines of "This may be possible. I'ĺl email you when I've found out". I waited for a week with no answer. So I sent Umbrella Entertainment another similar email. Two days later they got back to me with roughly the same answer as the first time. It said "They'll still waiting to find out if they could add subtitles". A few days later they emailed me again and told me that a subtitled version would be possible in there next batch of 500 copies... as long as I bought all 500 copies in the batch. Why would I want 500 copies? In reply, I actually proposed that I took the 500 copies for free and sell them on ebay for free and any money I made out of them I'd give to them 100%. They then got back to me saying that they've just realised that they don't have the copyright to press anymore copies. They can only sell what they've got left.
Even though I can't get the hang of it, It is apparently very easy to add subtitles to DVDs using SRT files. People do it at home on there own with great success with computer software like Wondershare. So Umbrella Entertaiment would have no problem. I also told them I had the subtitles to use if they didn't have the official SRT files. My subtitles were from the official SRT files anyway.
Just that they offered to sell me 500 copies or none if I wanted subtitles on the DVD in the first place just so I could get a copy with subtitles on it. It was unreal! What company would do this? I'd actually already had offered to pay a bit extra if they did a copy with subtitles, but no, they couldn't even do that. This is an Australian company based in Melbourne, Vic, Australia, but they have customers all around the world, especially the UK.
500 copies would've cost me AUD $1247.500 or GBP £614.73
