Not a scam & a nice startup/small business but limited offering
The website looked a bit dodgy which initially put me off but it is legit. However the promise of interesting offering made me bite the bullet and get it. Not having a trustpilot review also looked suspicious, but this gives me an opportunity to provide some feedback.
Pros:
- apparently a small personal business with travel recommendations utilising google maps to record what seems to be hand-selected spots.
- robust payment system via stripe helped minimise concern/risk, especially given that the service accepts credit cards which offer additional protection
- some unique locations not found on google maps as options (eg pubs who welcome overnight parking provided you get a meal/drink at the pub)
Cons:
- navigation is cumbersome
- no app for android, website not ideal for phone use (kudos for not making me download an app that just opens the website though! Developing offline version would be great)
- monthly subscription seems like a silly financing model for a thing people are likely going to use once. Making it monthly for professionals/"power users" would make sense.
- the recommendations/locations somewhat relies on goodwill as many of the car parking spots for accommodation are just pubs that you can ask to stay overnight and make sure to get some pints/food there and are probably subject to seasonal supply and demand/management/moodswings of owners. Traveling for 40 mins to a pub just to be turned down might hurt more on a rainy day.
- accommodation offerings are limited to some random selection of pub parking spots and villas/camp sites. Given that google maps most likely has a greater selection and more up-to-date reviews/information, this service has limited utility
Overall its just a google map with some unique yet limited selection of spots to shower/park overnight/stay. Glad to support a small business but their offering isnt unique and I ended up having to triangulate whats on google maps (pubs, free parking spots, community centres (for showers/toilets)/airbnb/pitchup/eirebnb/booking dot com/OpenStreetMap (via organic maps app) due to limitations of the site.
