5 months in engine failed! …
I purchased an engine from The Engine Company for approximately £2,000. Within five months, the engine failed.
From early on, the engine regularly displayed low oil pressure warning lights, despite running seemingly normally. I got told it was probably a sensor or wiring so checked and replaced the sensor! To investigate this properly, I independently tested the oil pressure. At idle, the pressure was approximately 8 psi, rising to around 15 psi at 2,000 rpm, which I understand to be significantly below acceptable levels for an engine in good condition.
When I called and raised this concern with The Engine Company, I was informed that this level of oil pressure was “totally normal” for these engines. Based on my own checks and understanding, I strongly disagree with this assessment and believe this issue was an early indicator of the engine’s eventual failure.
The company did supply a replacement engine under warranty. However, despite understanding that their warranty does not cover labour, I have been left extremely frustrated by the outcome. The failure was not due to any fault of my own, yet I have had to pay around £2,000 in labour costs to have the engine removed and replaced only six months after purchase.
When I contacted the company to confirm the warranty position on the replacement engine, I was informed that the replacement engine doesn’t come with warranty!!! They said the warranty carries over from the original engine and that a new 12-month warranty would not be provided, despite this being a different engine supplied months later due to a premature failure.
As a result, six months in I am:
• Approximately £2,000 out of pocket in labour costs
• Left with a replacement engine that does not come with a fresh warranty
• Bearing the financial consequences of a failure that I believe was not my fault
While a replacement engine was supplied, the overall experience has been both disappointing and financially painful and the chap on the end of the phone was rude and said I was cheeky asking for a fresh warranty ! I would strongly advise anyone considering this company to fully understand the warranty terms, particularly regarding labour costs and replacement engines. In the terms it doesn’t not mention any replacement engine under warranty doesn’t come with warranty !
I would not use this company again.
