I wanted to share my experience with barrister Paul O'Callaghan, who offered to draft grounds of appeal for me for a fee of £2,820. However, when he delivered the document, I found it to be very generic and not in compliance with the relevant practice direction for the Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT). Moreover, he failed to provide any explanation for why the appeal was so short and generic. In fact, he purposely omitted quotes from the EAT practice direction in his email, which made it seem like he had done more work than he had. This is explained in detail on the reddit thread.

When I pointed out the errors in the appeal and asked for improvements, it became clear through our back-and-forth communication that he did not have the ability to improve upon it. As a result, I had to write and submit the appeal myself.

After this experience, I wrote to Paul to request a refund and explained my reasons for doing so. He offered a partial refund of £540, which I refused. Instead, I told him that I would leave a review of my experience with him online. Paul O’Callaghan threatened legal action if I were to post a negative review of him. I advised him that the review I post will be completely truthful and can be corroborated by emails and the work he produced, so I have nothing to worry about.

I have submitted a complaint to Clerks-room regarding Paul O'Callaghan, having already complained directly to Paul and he failed to be honest regarding his failings for the services he did not provided. My post will have a live update, of everything that occurs.

Gerry Heap prepared a written Advice on liability and quantum which very much helped getting a tricky case settled. He was was on hand to speak about the case both before and after his Advice and was, as always, very attentive and clear.

Before the hearing we communicated with Counsel and she was very helpful and concise when replying to our client's queries and concerns. Our client also informed us that the Counsel was brilliant and very professional at the hearing and put him at ease by explaining her strategy and the possible outcome of the case in simple terms before the Hearing commenced. The service and prompt communication provided by the clerks at Chambers was also great.

Clerksroom was able to get me a very proficient barrister in record time named Mr Tahir Ashraf , even though, the instruction came too close to the hearing date.

Tahir is a knowledgeable counsel who is quite broad in his understanding of the law, practice procedure and open to exploring new thinking in litigation. In addition, Tahir takes passion in his work and was able to rustle up a fantastic legal position within minutes that got my client out of a legal pickle. He is also nice and put a human face to the tedious work of a barrister.
