July 2022 heatwave
While passengers try their best to make the train on time, Thalys shows absolutely ZERO concern for passengers when there is a delay and cancellation. Being stuck at Gare du Nord for two hours during the heatwave of July 2022 was no fun. Their website claims the following "Check the traffic status on your route in real time, find out about the expected disruptions and stay informed by SMS."
But I was never informed about my train's delay via SMS, email or any other way. The delays started around 4pm so by 5-6pm they should know my train would be delayed. And yet I showed up on time like an idiot only to find out about the bad news. No support from the staff whatsoever. Not even a free drink of water, nothing. if you don't inform your passengers via SMS why the hell Thalys asked for my number when I booked the ticket?
With today's technology should all this be happening? A complete waste of time and energy for the passengers!!! More and more passengers were stuck at the train station, with no information and glued to the information boards, when they could have arrived at the station later if they were informed about the delay. All this unnecessary stress and crowds could have easily avoided if someone at Thalys bothered to inform the passengers of their train's status promptly.
The problem is really not so much about the delay itself. I understand many of the delays are out of Thalys' control. It's their sheer incompetence, inconsideration and disrespect for passengers in handling the delays that is the problem. And their gall to charge over 100+ euro for a one-way ticket for this kind of lousy service is just maddening. When will there be an alternative to Thalys please? I am really sick and tired of their incompetence and arrogance.
