SoulCycle’s Quiet Renaissance And Why It Feels Right This Time Around
There was a moment, somewhere between the first collective breath and the thud of the base dropping, that it hit me: SoulCycle is back, and it’s timely.
Not nostalgically. Not “remember when” zeitgeist. But “Meaningful" Now.
In a post-covidian universe, we’re all living through recalibration and evolution.
Mental and physical health are now one. Gyms are literally not fit for purpose, having been out manoeuvred by the ‘Wellness’ movement.
Self-care and self-love has moved from scented candles to biohacking and holistic nutrition
More interestingly, data suggests were all easing away from social media and enjoying a profound return to IRL (In Real Life) human connection and shared moments. And about time.
Mind, Body and Souls together working together as one.
SoulCycle, the original mindful indoor cycling class -equal parts sweat, sermon, and serotonin, suddenly makes sense again- in fact, more so than ever. An OG in the wellness space and place or worship for its loyal congregation of riders connect and get into flow state.
The Cult status has softened into a connected community. The energy and power is still very much in the room, and it’s a vibe-but with less ego, and more empathy.
A new generation of riders- lead the way many whom have been mentored by the iconic founding SoulCycle instructors.
The brand is back, cooler and stronger, after pandemic closures and cultural fatigue, in a world that briefly believed Peloton home screens and solitary optimisation were the future.
Credit where it’s due: under parent company Equinox, and SoulCycle’s Evelyn Webster’s smart leadership, the team is pedalling back harder with renewed passion and purpose.
SoulCycle is in a different class, delivering camaraderie and community. Endorphins and dopamine come free, as does the feeling of belonging.
In a culture exhausted by device metrics, and performative social media, genuine IRL immersive group exercise experiences are winning again.
Collective fitness has shifted from gamified output to shared presence. Simple and beautiful
SoulCycle’s second coming feels real and it’s spiritual. The voiced affirmations in class, somehow appear less rhetoric and more relevant and real this time around.
The London Front of House team and Instructors are all evangelists-and it took me a few rides to realise what connects them. It’s happiness. The aura of contentment and positivity is palpable. Together they are stronger. Riders feel seen without being watched and motivated without being measured.
Soul Cycle is not really in the business of selling fitness- they’re offering up emotional experiences and group interactions that restore health and deeply connect our souls.
Mental and physical wellbeing is simply one of the many positive upsides and outputs
As Wellness Pioneers, SoulCycle founders understood this twenty years ago- early in their journey and the rest of the world is only just starting to catch up.
This feels like a renaissance to me, not a reboot. Same bike. Sharper meaning.
From Burnout to Buy-In and as the company enters its twentieth anniversary year, SoulCycle looks stronger and has found its moment again. Loyal and dedicated riders are coming back and bringing friends, not because the world wants to spin harder or faster, but because it wants us to feel something together.
And right now, that’s worth turning up for.
Clip in, tap-back and enjoy the ride. SoulCycle is in the UK, US and Canada now.
