We have used Smith Partnership 3 times now and each experience has been exceptional. In two cases we have had great advice on Employment Settlement agreements for myself and my wife in which we have attained a much greater settlement than would have been the case without the advice.

More recently I have had a more prolonged need to engage the firm for a long running dispute with my ex-wife. Specifically Ruth Jones has guided me through a minefield created by an over generous original settlement that had created abnormally high expectations on the other side. The outcome, whilst immediately painful (Clean Break Settlement) has saved me well over six figures in the medium term.

I previously used Smith’s Partnership Leicester in 2016 when purchasing my first home. It was a no-chain transaction that completed quickly, and the service was excellent. Communication from Danielle Downie was particularly strong, leaving me with a very positive impression of the firm.

Unfortunately, my experience when returning to Smith’s Partnership Leicester in 2025 was entirely different and, frankly, the most frustrating experience I have had with any professional service. The solicitor originally handling my case had left the business without any communication from the Leicester team, and my file was transferred to the Burton branch without explanation.

From the outset, there were persistent staffing issues, including staff being off sick, with no clear or consistent point of contact provided. Queries were acknowledged but rarely progressed, with responses often stating they were “awaiting a reply” and then left unresolved. I was forced to take on communication with both the buyer and seller directly, only to later realise that the information I was being given by Smith’s was inaccurate, seemingly to delay completion due to workload pressures.

Important documents sat unsigned in the office for days and, when eventually sent, were posted despite my clear request to attend in person. Months were lost due to avoidable delays, emails went unanswered for up to a week, and even simple queries remained unresolved for extended periods. My case was repeatedly passed between different, clearly overworked staff members. Each time I followed up by phone, I was told they were several days behind on emails and could not say when my queries would be addressed.

It was only once the head of department became involved that the matter was finally completed. While I acknowledge the eventual resolution, the lack of continuity, poor communication, and prolonged delays made the process unnecessarily stressful. Based on this experience, I would not use the firm again.

I would, however, like to thank Tia Aitken at the Burton branch, who was the only individual who consistently followed up and did exactly what she said she would. This experience has given me a better understanding of why staff may choose to leave and my sympathy lies with those who remain under such pressure.

We chose Liam Kreibich to represent our case as we needed some sound legal advice and representation in court to place a possession order and CCJ's against three tenants. Liam was very knowledgeable and efficient and successfully achieved all that was needed.
We would wholeheartedly recommend Liam for any issues involving residential letting and problem tenants. He was very professional at every stage of the process and kept us informed via email.
I hope we will not need the services of Liam again, but if we do I would definitely ask for him to personally deal with our case and would not hesitate to recommend him to any other landlord.

Our solicitor was understanding, patient and thorough with a very tricky situation. Our problem was on going for years and our solicitor managed to resolve issues we never thought would happen, his name is John Ellis.

A member of their senior leadership team’s behaviour outside of work is concerning. Rude, bullying and unkind! Not a great endorsement for someone who works in children’s services!

Smith Partnership are the solicitors for the buyer at the top of our property chain. The memorandum of sale was completed in April. We were told their client had a mortgage approved. Since then we have been given every excuse under the sun to not progress, but that they are nearly there. Their behaviour has lost us the opportunity of other interest during the Autumn. We have actually lost the opportunity of two other sales as a result. Now we are in to the Christmas period when no one else is buying or looking to move.
It has taken over 2 months to approve funds from overseas - each step takes a manager more than a week to approve the case solicitors work. They will not give any indication of timescale to the agent. This is causing my family mental health issues and financial disadvantage - as not only are we paying service charge on an empty property but also interest on care home fees without the capital from the sale of the house.
Do not use yourselves, and do not enter in to agreement with any buyer who has employed them.
Because we don't have a contract with them we cannot apparently report this behaviour.
