Short field garage- Scammers. Rogue traders.!community need to be made aware
I put my car in for a PRE MOT after using this garage the year before spending £800 to pass it mot in 2022
In July 2023 I was given an estimate for at least £436 and this was without a wheel liner being repaired! Estimated about £634 but could be a firmer estimation due to parts pricing
In October 2023 I used another local recommended garage where my car PASSED its MOT with ONE ADVISORY. A tyre replacement. and they queried shortfields need for
A) replacing the break cables both didn’t need replacing
The handbrake was perfect. The readings were 137nr and 140 offside pushed through brake rollers - DVLA TESTING STANDARDS

B)the airbag light was a dirty connector , took an hours labour at most!
C) a wheel arch liner is not part of a MOT and should never have been advised to be repaired for mot passing status!
After a very hostile conversation with whom i can only assume was the manager, no apology but further more no explanation of why any of these items were included in my pre mot
Other than I can’t pass comment I don’t have the car in front of me.
Bizzare that another garage can pass a car MOT BUT short field require the best part of prob £650 plus to “repair” unnecessarily parts of my car to get it pass its MOT including items which aren’t covered in an mot
Hopefully this will allow the community not to be short changed by these rip off merchants! That’s exactly all they are.
AVOID… and save your hard earned money!
My final bill was £126 and that included the cost of the MOT at another garage.
A big difference! To the original quote of £650
The owner proceeded to message me RANDOMLY on what’s app to tell me that he is giving bonuses to all his staff, my reply was
Not sure how scamming clients merits bonus but then again if he scams me what could have been £650 no wonder he can give out bonuses
Needless to say I was blocked! No offer of a refund, no explanation of anything just blocked.
I have contacted trading standards and also the local paper are keen to investigate of further rogue incidents!
