Absolute con! I needed a passport style digital photo to apply for a local government bus pass and you can't even download your own photo. The booth suggests that the passport photo can be used for documents and the other option is described as a fun photo - they should be clear that the id option is for passport only - Trading Standards where are you?

I used a Photo-ME booth specifically to get a digital ID photo, but the entire system is an absolute joke. They give you a digital photo code, but ME Group doesn't actually provide a website where you can download your own photo. When you try the official workaround by entering the code into the GOV.UK portal, the website only lets you preview a heavily compressed, low-resolution thumbnail.

When I contacted customer support to ask for the high-resolution file that I had paid for, they flat-out refused. They told me that the digital codes are strictly for UK passport applications and that they do not provide high-resolution images for personal use, nor can they email the file to you.

It is completely bizarre that, in 2026, a company can charge you for a digital photo service but then effectively trap your own photo behind a government portal, refusing to give the customer the actual digital file.

Absolutely ridiculous business model. If you need a high-quality digital ID photo that you can actually keep and use, save your money and avoid these booths. Use a phone app or an online service instead.

Don't let the 1 star fool you, it's just the '0' option was not available. If you don't want to waste your precious time, don't use a Photo Me for passport photos. They take your £10 of course but the code to use the photos does not work.

I took photos to renew my sons passport yesterday. When I tried entering the code it is not working. Using Photo-Me Whatsapp/bot they are saying they were taken in Feb and will not help despite me sending a copy of my invoice. Totally incompetent service do not use.

Confirmed approved Photo-Me digital photo was not accepted by passport office as background too dark. Waist of money and time.

Went to the photo me booth on four different occasions for passport photo each set of photos rejected by passport office. Each set of photos was given the passport compliant by the photo me booth. Never use them again. Advise people to go straight to your local pharmacy for your passport photo.

Used the Photo Booth in the Trafford centre today and the photos are such poor quality you can’t even see me. Won’t use again, paid £5 for pictures you can’t even see. Disgraceful.

Went to a Photo Booth for a passport photo - but couldn’t get a digital copy. Messaged helpline for assistance - no response. Called the company - no one picked up. Also, the Photo Booth wouldn’t take contactless phone payment even though it said it would - only found it out after spending 10 minutes getting the photo. Then had to return day later with a physical card.

Awful, absolutely awful. Took photos, I needed an online photo. Got the code to download it. Impossible to work out how. They have a help phone number, I called it - the automated voice says go to website! No help whatsoever. I want my £10 back.

Twice i have used this service in 10 days and it dose not work, customer service is a disgrace and no phone number, do not use this system.its a scam

Not too sure of the point of getting one of these photo with digital code, when the photo isn’t retrievable online when need. If it expires in certain length of time it should clearly state it on the print out. What has been worse, is the customer service. Tried contacting them, provided the essential details they need like booth number and photo code to begin with. Apart from instant replying, it wasn’t going anywhere at all. Just back and forth asking details I have already provided right at the start. So you get several emails but nothing gets solved or explained. Photo print out said provide booth number and photo code, customer service ask for a receipt. Who keep a receipt for such thing? Provided the necessary info and said I don’t have a receipt and email following up asking for these again. And also saying photo me don’t retain photos produced by the booth. So what’s the purpose of digital photo again?

Codes don't work, even after they leave you waiting 3 days to load the code. Waste of time and money.

I am an Old Black man but the photo print I received was that of an old white woman. When I asked for refund I was refereed to a website that does not recognise the machine number. Just in case I got the machine number wrong I tried to follow their "Find the machine number" link. The search by postcode field was WRITE PROTECTED. The second search support was a tiny map for the whole UK and Northern Ireland, with big pictures of the individual sites (which cover the tiny screen) making any scrolling the hundreds of sites impossible. The worst self service provider ever.

Dreadful! Don't use if you want to download digital photos. Should be straightforward but it isn't.

All great!! Up until you want to put in your code to get the digital copy of your passport size photo.
Put it in where? After strolling & looking & searching on their website, I still don't know where to insert this damn code to obtain the digital version of my photo!
And I cannot get any answers or help either because it's past working hours.

A complete con...I used the photo-me service for a photo to apply for my Irish passport renewal. I knew the machines were complaint as it advertises clearly throughout the process, up until you get to the critical part of a code. At this point it is completely ambiguous and I was given my photo with only a UK passport Compliant code. You would think a pretty easy fix by getting in touch with their customer service since I've paid Photo-me £10 and my photo is in their system. Not at all. A complete waste of money and the only thing I can do is retake the photo and pay an extra £10. A mockery! AVOID!

AWFUL!! Applying for my Irish Passport, the website suggests Photo Me to grt your passport photos taken, and they provide you with a code you enter into your application online - sounds pretty easy and straightforward right? WRONG. After 4 days of putting the code in and getting a repeated message of the code being 'incorrect' I went onto the Photo Me website to find details of where to contact someone with this issue. I WhatsApped the number provided and got a reply asking for a clear photo of the print out, which was sent at 12 midday. Im now sitting here 10pm and still no response. Its just such a shocking service AVOID AVOID AVOID

Opted for digital so i could use photo on other sites but impossible to download - code not recognised, even after going through passport app

Used Photo Me at local Lidl shop. I paid €10. They told me the photo was suitable for a passport. It looked good so I downloaded it for an extra euro and sent it to the Irish Passport Office. After a week I got an email from passport office asking me to submit another photo as that one was not acceptable. Why is Irish passport office recommending Photo Me with a 1.5 star rating?

I want to give zero stars.
I’ve spent £30 on photo me passport photos and none of them have worked. I am waiting on two separate refunds due to faulty codes. They said the refunds would come through in 5 working days. I requested the refund 14 days ago and still no cash. I emailed today and they said there was a delay in releasing the cash. I have contacted watchdog because the product is so bad, no customer support phone number. Truly baffled
