The team at Mathewsons have been incredibly kind, professional and helpful today. Especially commendable as today is one of the busiest days… with a “live” auction in progress. A wonderful result was achieved for the seller of the Landrover based fire-engine (+ water pump). How the staff and team cope so well on such high-pressure days with a smile + grace, empathy, decency and humanity, says wonders about how good the team are at Mathewsons are. This would be a TEN star review, were that possible 🫡 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🏅

DISGUSTED - and thats the only word I can use here, I bid on a vehicle and was the winner, I did my due diligence, MOT checks etc, and knew that the car could, COULD have issues, as it had not been MOT'd since 2021, the estimate was £1000-£2000 I bid £650 and won, I was not prepared to pay anymore than that, including the fee's as it was an unknown prospect - YOUNG Charlie called, I spoke to him at length, and he agreed that they "can do something" with the fee's to bring it down nearer to the Max I wanted to pay - yet one hour later I got the invoice with NO changes.

I emailed back to enquire, was firstly greeted with a polite lady, whom I explained it all again too, she said she would get "CHARLIE" to call me back, he did not, and has not, yet I got a call from a rather RUDE and abrupt woman, who said that "Charlie never said that", umm, how do you know, were you on the phone with him at the time, NO, she said that that was the price, and due to her arrogance and rudeness, I said, NO, it was agreed with him that something could be done and if they are now going to go against the phone call, then thats me done, if he/they want to lie about it, then I want nothing to do with the company.

Yesterday I went to Mathewsons with my brother to view cars at the site before auction. We had the most wonderful day.
I would like to thank Derek for taking the time to speak with us even though he was busy. Also his sons Paul and Dave and grandsons Charlie and Jack who spent time speaking with us.
They are a wonderful family business who are very down to earth and hard working. The show brings them fame but they love speaking to their customers.
A mention for the wonderful staff who are equaly has friendly also.

Reading those reveiws I've always said it's time this show was taken off air .I feel sorry for his ex wife derek thinks he knows everything when he knows nothing.

Recently sold a vehicle with Mathewsons. Two weeks later still haven't recieved any funds / payment and don't know if the vehicle has been taken out of my name. We are not all selling expensive collectors cars and money is tight. Need the cash turn over and to be kept informed.

Really surprised to see so many negative reviews. I went to Pickering with my son, a wheelchair user, on something of a pilgrimage as we’re both fans of the show/s. I emailed ahead regarding wheelchair access and received a prompt and honest reply something like ‘you’ll be able to view a good number of vehicles but not all’ which turned out to be accurate. We spoke to Dave, Paul, Charlie (who I called Jack in error!), and all were friendly and helpful. Many others working there showed the same level of helpfulness and conviviality. I can’t comment on the business as an auction facility as we didn’t buy owt!

You would think to hear the two younger sons talking that they were the font of all knowledge,I have been watching this show since it started,the first two seasons were brilliant,but now they have got a bit of fame it has went to their heads,myself I have been in the motor trade for 55 years and some of the comments are absolutely ridiculous,those two young lads need to learn a lot more before they comment on anything.

I placed an absentee bid, and almost immediately got an Email asking if I'd like to bid more, as I'd been outbid the day before the auction. This later proved to be a lie, as I was the only bidder on the lot. This was verified by 2 staff members in phone conversations. The live bids went up 3 times in £100 increments to my maximum bid as the auctioneer looked at his desk and screen. Hammer went down provisional. Later a member of staff told me, he was allowed to shill bid up to the reserve. This was a contradiction of acting on my behalf, with my bids. I sent an email outlining my concerns and, within 2 hours, got a very abrupt,forceful david ' the owner' that refused to communicate via email. Insisting ' No we'll do it now'. Then proceeded to lie about telephone bids. The livestream showing no eye contact forward of the desk by the auctioneer and also contradicting his two members of staff.
The conclusion. Matthewsons refunded their fees and edited the youtube auction video to only show the auctioneer as he dropped the gabble .
I did draw a line under this bad experience, until I rewatched the video and found they'd edited ( yes you can do this on YouTube)to cover themselves. Feeling a sense of responsibility to share my experience I decided to post here and await another abrupt and forceful David phone call, of which I will record .

Was going to visit but then saw they charge £5 to view cars. All goes to charity they say. But i find this grossly offensive. I choose which charities I donate to. If they feel so strongly about their charities then they should pay it. So if I get this right, they charge you £5 to view cars you may want to buy that are not owned by them, and that they already get paid twice for each one they sell 🤔. No thanks. I will stick to auction houses who don't presume. Can you imagine having to pay £5 to enter a car dealers showroom? No? Me neither....

I purchased my jeep and shipped it to Ireland . I followed up for weeks about getting the V5 all I got in response for 6 weeks was it’s in the post after more phone calls and mails the only response was it’s in the post . They said they would follow up but never did . A car imported into Ireland needs a V5 so if you are thinking of dealing with Mathewson DONT

Very DISAPPOINTED-SENT EMAILS with pics trying to enter a car in to one of there sales and 10 days later nothing
No reply nothing , I think there all to busy trying to be film stars to bother replying
So put it on eBay sold very fast no hassle without leaving home
So saved a packet on commission
Overall VERY VERY DISAPOINTED

Recently bought a couple of cars and accordingly paid quite a bit in commision with cars then transported by a recommended supplier.
On delivery of the 2nd car found the the despatch team had placed items in the passenger foot well that had pierced the passenger leather seat. Immediately contacted Mathewsons and sent them pictures. Contacted them repeatedly but was brushed off with no one ever getting back to me. Sent an email to the Directors ... no reply. Totally ignored on the whole matter. My conclusion is that they really don't care. Be careful what you buy, and how you get it home as Mathewsons do not give 2 hoots as long as they have the commission.

I visited yesterday after looking up a few cars on their next auction and checked the viewing days, the staff were incredibly helpful and pointed me to the correct warehouse for the cars I wished to view. The place is understandably very busy and had a good mix of newer and older classics to look at, I can see some people don't appreciate that it is ultimately a business and they need to sell a variety of newer and older cars in order to be successful and I wish them a continued success in this.

Travelled 190mls only to be told we couldn’t look at any vehicles for sale as they were moving cars around🤷‍♂️. Ok I understand the health and safety of this but why keep sending videos of cars for sale and to come down and have a look. When there are only certain times they can be accessed. The place was crammed with 80s and 90s cars and very few real vintage or veteran cars. The only part you can access is the old part selling trinkets and promotional rubbish, I think I will stick to H&H and Manor Classics sales from now on.

its way overdue to cancel there tv series, dereck is very hurtfull and rude to people,especially to the old couple selling there dads merc 190 estate, and it showed how little he knows about the price of the cars he sells, it sold for over double what he guessed at. looking at there 72% bad reviews they dont deserve to be on tv

We've been to several veiwing days checking out citroen 2cv's. Finally in April we found a lovely red and white Dolly. Super friendly staff were more than helpful, showing us all the photos and paperwork that went with it. On auction day it couldn't have been easier. A gent called us ready to bid, which we won. We paid a few days later and collected the following week. Dave and Jack were more than helpful, helping load the car onto the trailer. We don't understand the other poor reviews? We don't think people realise this is a working business
not a visitor attraction. We had a great experience.

They showed a video of a disabled persons vw van with wheelchair ramp, we rang to ask if it was possible for a wheelchair user to view the van, and were bluntly told no as there was only 18 inches between cars, they find space to video the van inside and out and yet it was too much trouble to let me as a wheelchair user view the £30.000 van. How on earth do they feel it is right to sell a disabled adapted vehicle that a wheelchair user can't view? Was a big fan of this company and watched all the shows on tv, now I feel let down and it has left a really bad taste!! I will not be thinking of this company when considering buying a car. It could have been so easy and looking at the pics, there was a verrry big chance I would have Bided as high as it took to get it. You need to consider your disabled customers mathewsons!

Phoned twice requesting information on a vehicle being auctioned, was assured on both occasions that someone would get back to me, no one did. Will not bother again they obviously don't need my custom.

How do yous manage to sell anything ?? Everyone of yous have something negative to say about almost every thing yous get in . Not very good for your commission or your selling customers .
