Awful customer support. They automate their ban/appeal process. You CANNOT talk to a human. If you're unlucky enough to get falsely banned, you just lost your account for good.

looks like they're so understaffed they just give out random ban hammers to players, even though the game is so infested with bots if you ban a random player you would probably ban a bot. yet they still manage to target real people instead of the millions of obvious bots.

You don't care about your players, you just care about your bottom line. Permanently banned me for 1 offence in over 20 years yet others receive 2-3 warnings?
Absolutely understand I broke the rules, once. And a permanent ban on a 20+ year account for a first offence of it's kind? wow. You pick and choose how harsh you'll be and there is a complete lack of consistency in your approach. I will never play osrs/rs3 again.

Perma-banned for botting last year even tho I didint play in the last 3 years, just lost about 500 hour of play time and hundred $ worth of membership time, thank you clown

they banned me, accusing me of macroing(botting), hand to God i never botted, EVER! the appeal is a joke, i pointed out that bots dont do things i did, like talk to players, help others out, add to friends lists, but they ignored my appeal and denied me out of hand. it may have been a temporary ban but i might not even bother going back.
how can they improve things? its simple, and yet they dont have the intelligence to do it, communicate. simply talk to players, you can resolve an issue is a few minutes at most, and game mods are on the clock so they have the time, just not the ambition to do the job right. they need to make a way to actually reach AND communcate WITH jagex mods and admins, even when banned they can let you communicate, because maybe there was just a missunderstanding, it happens, and both sides can talk something through and figure it out, it actually leads to better service and happier players. i hate bots as much as anyone, God knows ive reported many of them, you see them at the G.E., advertising some site or something. a mod could have shown up where i was at, OR even just sent a private message, let me show you how painfully simple this could have been:
jagex: "player, i am modjohndoe, i need to speak with you"
me:"whats up?" or "how can i help you, sir?"
jagex: "are you using a 3rd party software?"
me:"to play your game? hell no! dont trust anything like that"
jagex:"there is a suspicion of botting/macroing, and thus and thus is what we see on our end"
me:"not me, but now i think i might need to run a security scan" OR "we have a vpn, its a security feature to keep malware off our network" OR "i have thus and thus to block malware, but your official app doesnt use the browser, i wouldnt think it would have any affect"
.. or some such conversation, a few minutes, ive seen cops more reasonable during a traffic stop than jagex has been, they leave you no means to actually reach anyone, no way to sort out a wrongful ban, just "well i say so, so you did it!", which reminds me of a political figure of cuba, people blindly wear shirts with his image on it, like he was suppose to be a great man, yet if you were accused of a crime, he didnt believe in getting to the truth of a matter, if you did it or not, he would just kill the accused and be done with it, this is not that different, an accusation, no real way to clear the name, and your banned/ character killed. this figure was Che Guevara, a marxist, is there a similarity? i think so.

Bot support
After losing my mail which was linked to my runescape account I have tried more than 40 times to appeal for it without success. I gave an amount and quality of information that no other person could ever know. Of course I cannot remember a password with more than 9 years ( oldest password I gave). I got the same email back each time. No real feedback. I wait to be in my home town where my account was created to appeal for it again without success once more. I guess I lost the account which meant to me a lot since it was the game of my childhood and always played on this account.
Banned for using a VPN and Linux
2nd account i have had banned because i use a VPN that switches constantly and run from linux. Their pathetic banning moderators have stated that they detected 3rd party software and banned my account for good. This company is a damn joke.

Account of over 20 years banned. I look at date of offense: Aug 22. I literally have not even played the account since my kid was born in 2021. The offense even said it was in Old School, but the ban goes to Runescape as well, which is bs. Appeal denied? There is no case to be made with them. Their evidence cannot be contested and they don't even reveal it to you so you can look at IPs and whatnot. They are judge, jury, and account executioner. Do not give your money to this company. No matter how loyal you are, they do not care about you.
Avoid at All Costs (or it will cost you!)
Stay as far away from Runescape (and Jagex itself) as you can. Jagex has left it for dead, and there is nothing good left here. There is only risk for yourself and your PC. Best case scenario, you play for a few months or even years before some hacker steals everything you have and locks out your account. Worst case scenario, they go even further, and they attempt to hack into your PC, bank account, etc. Save yourself the trauma, heartache and financial loss. Close this tab now, and don’t come back.
An online search shows that there are already several criminal inquiries into Jagex policies and practices. As a former player, I can certainly testify that this is a game which feels like it's run by a criminal organization.
I played Runescape for almost 20 years, from 2003 to 2022, so it is extremely depressing that, after all of this time, this is the review I must leave of the game. This game was a huge part of my childhood, and I have so many fond memories of it, from RS1 to RS3. I was one of the first players, and now I think I have been one of the last, as well.
This game is overrun with hackers, criminals and malicious actors. After trying to update my security settings, reaching out to Jagex, and doing everything I could to add more security to my account, I was unable to even get a single response from the Jagex team, or to change any of my settings. Ultimately (and as a direct consequence of Jagex’s failure and complete abandonment of the game despite consistent warnings) my account—like so many others—was hacked, and I lost everything. I estimate the value of lost items, time, and membership fees in total excess of $100,000.00 USD.
When I raised this issue with Jagex again, instead of fixing anything, they actually locked me out of my account. So now I not only lost all of my things, but I’ve also lost the account itself—with max levels, thousands of hours of gameplay, etc. Jagex is a malicious company. You are nothing to them but a bag of money, a lifeless resource to be extracted.
Unfortunately, my situation is not unique. Jagex has abandoned Runescape, and it breaks my heart to tell you this. Virtually every player you’ll meet in-game (if there is any actual player left) has a similar story. This game is a scam and a huge security liability for yourself, your personal data, and your PC. You will receive no support from the Jagex team. You will never even get a reply, even if you somehow manage to find a stray email address to which to send your concerns (as I did—and it’s worth noting that Jagex makes itself deliberately unreachable because they know of these issues and simply don’t care to fix them. You will never get to speak with a human, from start to finish.)
If this is how they treat players like me—loyal and lifelong players who have supported the game through two decades of our lives and with thousands and thousands of our dollars—just try to imagine how they’ll treat you or any other new player.
Avoid this game at all costs. If you don’t, it literally will cost you, and you will regret it.
So I got a warning for real world…
So I got a warning for real world trading so I never did it again and today I get banned for never doing it again how does that work? Get a warning and get banned an month later for doing nothing but they claim I continued and I didn’t jagex your terrible how about do your job correctly how can you give someone a warning then a month later ban them for playing the game without doing anything wrong

This company is pathetic. Customer service is non existent... I mean crazy bad. Banned me and my brother for NO REASON AT ALL and claimed we were macroing or whatever but can not prove or show me anything. All I wanted to know was what app was it that got me in trouble so we could both remove it and move on but they couldn't. I believe they just ban random people tbh. Mind you this is literally THE DAY AFTER I spent money on the game. So they got what they wanted and then poof. Screw that guy we don't need him anymore. Also my ban was 48 hours so I'm back but my brother got a permanent ban for nothing. Unbelievable waste of time/effort/money. If I could give zero stars I would. I've never used a company so unprofessional as jagex. Not sure how you have people still playing after all this time. However I'm going to look into filing a suit if able along with a few others I've seen. All we can do is try. My advice to everyone is to find another game. At least there your account should be safe of getting shut off for no reason. Really too bad because the game play is decent. Shame on jagex for the way they treat their customers. You disgust me. If jagex receives this and actually WANTS to make an effort to fix this and have a REAL PERSON contact me then I will change my review and be honest.
