Local BnB owner let down
Being a B&B owner on Skye I have been a customer of IsleofSkye.com for several years. They provide useful information to visitors and allow them to search for and book accommodation at those establishments registered with them. In Scotland now owners of accommodation for tourists must apply for a licence via the local authority. This places an added financial burden on proprietors. I decided that I needed to cut any costs to cover this burden. In late October 2022 I contacted Dave Liley at Isleofskye.com and explained I would not be renewing, highlighting the extra costs associated with the new licencing system. I was assured I’d be taken off their system. In May this year I received an invoice for £51.25 from Isleofskye.com for booking commission. Clearly thinking this was an error and I had not in fact been taken off the Isleofskye.com listings I contacted Dave Liley. The explanation – these bookings are from our ‘Freetobook’ service and not the Isleofskye.com site, there was no mention of you coming off this service. Now, having made it clear back in October 2022 the reason for NOT renewing my listing was due to saving money……. I shall leave the interpretation of this interaction to the reader. The amount has been paid by me with a clear instruction that the business relationship is over.
