Fast shipping, great products. Once a wooden piece I ordered from them cracked a few days after I received it. They replaced it immediately after I informed them of this with no hassle or extra cost to me.

HOS has a wide variety of products which meet my chess needs for chess sets and books. Always a varied selection with periodic sakes fir substantial savings. Their customer service has always been responsive and shipping is very quick getting product out the door. I would rate them a perfect 10!

The first thing I ordered was a sort of "bucket list" chess set, a fine quality ebony and boxwood set that I also purchased the large coffer for to keep it safe. The quality and workmanship were superb and I couldn't have been more pleased. Not quite a year later I noticed that one of the tiny points on the King's rather delicate finial had chipped, possibly due to the humidity where I live. I sent them a photo of my King, and they sent me a replacement. couldn't ask for more from the customer service. Over the years they have been nothing but an excellent experience.

I have been dealing with the HOS for many years. Their products are well packaged/protected and arrive as scheduled. Also highly regarded is their service.....questions and suggestions are answered/provided quickly and courteously, always keeping the "customer first" attitude in mind. Overall, an excellent company to deal with!

Stay away Don't Buy The House of Staunton Chess Pieces - Terrible Customer Service

I got the Imperial Chess set as a Christmas gift from my wife. Information is below

I bought a chess set from House of Staunton that remained sealed in its original box for about five months while we were remodeling our room. When I finally opened it, everything appeared fine. The set then sat untouched as a decorative piece until the present day.

Recently, I noticed a crack on one of the pieces. I contacted customer service and was told the set was out of warranty because it had been over a year since purchase, regardless of the fact that it had barely been used. Their solution? Pay $25 per piece for replacements. I reluctantly bought one, only to find another piece cracked shortly after. This really pissed me off.

To make it worse, they started lecturing me about the need for humidity and temperature control, neither of which was ever mentioned at the time of purchase. No mention of this on their website, at least not easily found. If their products are so fragile that they crack just sitting on display, that should be disclosed clearly! I don't want to have to keep a humidity and temperature-controlled room for my chess set. I would have never told my wife I was interested in this chess set if I knew this was the case.

For the price they charge, I expected much better quality and far more support. This will be my last purchase from House of Staunton ever. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this company.

Bought clearance Tahl II pieces via the chesscomshop. I received them in less than a week (The Netherlands). I had to pay €17 extra customs clearance costs.

One bishop had a tilted head. The HOS customs worker quickly sent a new bishop and paid the customs clearance.

Great service, awesome pieces!

I ordered an expensive set (Savano luxury 4.4') in blood rosewood, and found the pieces to be dyed counterfeits:

- A wet wipe easily soaked substantial amounts of stain of every piece, especially unsealed surfaces.
- The stain was magenta coloured, probably to combine with the wood's natural colour to produce a brownish red.
- The pieces had none of Pterocarpus soyauxii's natural pleasant odour.
- The knight's top can be screwed off. The wood was estimated to be too light for Padauk/blood rosewood's natural density.
- Colour bleeding is possible in small amounts as oil stains or in alcohol solvents. The stains were neither of these.
- My family and I found the chemical dye's smell sickening, and are leaving the chess set outside.

Requesting a return based on these explanations, I received the reply "In regard to the wood species, the dark army was indeed manufactured from padauk/blood rosewood."

Just purchased the DGT Projects Electronic Chess Board (E-Board) with Bluetooth Connection, DGT Projects - Royal Chess Pieces (Rosewood) and the DGT Projects PI Digital Chess Clock. Items sent to Australia from USA, arrived quickly and extremely well packaged. Items as described. Yet to set up but all looks very good.

My wife ordered two chessboards in the clearance sale, and one has way too many imperfections to be acceptable, but since it is a clearance sale item there are no returns or refunds. In comparison for example, if you go to the website of chessbazaar, you will see two distinct categories: 'Clearance Sale' and 'Imperfect items'. I have never ever received any imperfect items when ordering from chessbazaar's clearance sale, because that's not what it is supposed to be, unless, of course it is announced to the customer beforehand. House Of Staunton doesn't tell you about the imperfections, they show a perfectly new board in the advertisement photo of the 'clearance sale', but then you get faulty items. I have sent them an e-mail with screenshots, but so far, ignorance has been my only answer.

Super quality on Staunton pieces set. Very pleased.

Purchased a limited edition Sinquefield Cup set for Christmas and it arrived today. So happy with the purchase! The set looks beautiful and top quality. It was worth the price!

I ordered a beautiful chess set from HOS in the second week of December 2020 having decided to purchase a bit late in the day with Christmas closing in. Couldn't believe it when it arrived on Xmas eve to IRELAND!!
The quality is top class.

The House of Staunton has a huge selection and offers properly weighted chess pieces for experieced players who recognize quality. I was hesitant to order this close to the holidays given the current situation, but all items arrived today as promised. Exceptional quality, wonderful service. I can't recommend this company enough. They even included a copy of the 2021 catalog which I didn't request but also appreciate.
