I had an extremely disappointing experience with the Hertz location in Duluth.
I made my reservation over a week in advance. The reason I arrived early for pickup was because the last time I rented from this location, I was told there were no cars available even though I had a confirmed reservation. That happened two days before Thanksgiving, so I wanted to avoid the same situation.
Unfortunately, history repeated itself. I arrived early for my reservation only to be told there were no cars available. What made the experience even worse was that no one called to let me know my reservation could not be honored. I wasted my time driving there for nothing.
When I asked why I wasn’t notified, the employees laughed. I asked to speak with the on-site manager, Cameron, but he showed no concern for the situation. He dismissed my questions and made no effort to resolve the issue. No one tried to check nearby Hertz locations for available vehicles or offer any alternative solution.
Instead, I was simply told they had overbooked and there was “nothing they could do.” That’s unacceptable. There were several things they could have done—notify customers ahead of time, check inventory at nearby locations, make phone calls, or at the very least show some empathy and professionalism.
Because of their lack of planning and customer service, I had to scramble to find another rental, pay for additional Lyft rides, and ended up being late for work.
A reservation should mean your vehicle is reserved. If Hertz cannot honor confirmed reservations and treats customers with indifference when problems arise, what’s the point of making one?
This was one of the worst customer service experiences I’ve had. I would not recommend renting from this location.
