Just interacting with students in the school and making friends outside of it was a highlight. Experiencing a completely different way of life while still doing something productive was really valuable. Socially, it helped me become more open, and I found people in Thailand much more welcoming and friendly compared to the UK, where people tend to be more private. Everyone was open to getting to know you and made you feel comfortable. It’s something everyone should experience at least once in their life.

I would definitely recommend it to a friend. It gives you the chance to step into real-world teaching without prior experience, while still having professional support. It’s a unique opportunity that builds skills and confidence that will be useful in many areas going forward.

The experience has benefitted me a lot. It’s opened my eyes to the world, made me feel more independent, and given me the confidence that I could do something like this on my own again in the future.

Overall, I really enjoyed getting to know the people on the programme and learning more about Thailand’s history. Even though it was something completely new to me, I felt welcomed and comfortable throughout

My experience with Go-to-co was incredible. I was fortunate enough to spend 2 weeks teaching in Vietnam. This opportunity allowed me to grow as a person and meet some awesome people.

It's a once in a lifetime opportunity and if you are ever in the position to be able to take up such an opportunity it would be foolish to pass it up. Travel, alternate careers and other cultures always teach us so much about ourselves, it's a great chance to learn and grow - no matter how old you are.

Exciting opportunity, and would certainly recommend, however not for those who are interested in a more traditional teaching experience.

I had an amazing 6 months with Gotoco in Kerala, India. I got to experience an amazing culture, meet fantastic people and eat incredibly delicious food- what more could you want?!

Great experience teaching in China for two months after graduating University, professionally run and managed organisation, couldn't recommend it enough!

I also wanted to travel but I was worried about wasting my time. This gave me the opportunity to experience and new culture and society whilst getting a meaningful qualification.

There are so many amazing things about the course I completed. I spent 6 months in Kerala, India. We lived at the school we taught in alongside the online TEFL course you compete. We were located in rural Kerala. Lush jungle all around. In 6 months I was able to get a good grasp on Keralan culture. The most amazing food combined with elaborate dancing and colours and a true kindness in people’s hearts. I felt so welcome there and cannot recommend enough stepping out your comfort zone and experiencing something awesome halfway across the world! Gotoco fascilaited it brilliantly and were often on hand to help out with anything that didn’t go to plan.

My time with Gotoco in China was truly outstanding. The program was well organised, the communication was clear, and the support throughout the placement made everything run smoothly. Teaching was extremely fulfilling — the students were engaged and full of energy, and the school environment was welcoming. Outside of teaching, the cultural activities and excursions helped me understand and connect with China in a meaningful way. I gained professional teaching skills, global awareness, and unforgettable memories. I highly recommend the Gotoco program.

The location in rural vietnam was incredible, and i learnt so much about teaching and how to interact and adapt to new styles of teaching and teaching when you don't share a common language. The staff at Gotoco were incredible, especially Hayley who was lovely and helpful at every turn.

I began working toward my TESOL qualification with Gotoco in June 2023 and officially received it in October 2025. While I’m pleased to have completed the course, the process took considerably longer, was more stressful than I expected and set my career back a great deal.

During 2024, communication with Gotoco was often delayed — in some cases, I waited several months for updates on my course submissions — and additional tasks and short-notice deadlines were introduced, which made it challenging to stay on track. These factors made the experience quite frustrating at times. I’ve since been informed that Gotoco has updated and improved its systems, so I hope that future participants will find the process smoother than I did.

In terms of feedback, I noticed that students in my cohort were encouraged to share their impressions soon after returning from the trip, when most of us were still feeling very positive and had not yet received our final qualification. We were also advised that completing certain feedback steps could help speed up the return of our £100 deposit. While this may not have been an issue for everyone, I think it’s helpful for future participants to understand how the feedback process worked when I took part.

From my own experience, I’ve also had previous reviews removed from this platform. This may be part of why most of the reviews currently visible are overwhelmingly positive.

On a positive note, the overseas placement itself was excellent — the travel experience and the people I met made it a truly memorable summer. However, if your main goal is to obtain the TESOL qualification, my personal experience is that the administrative side requires a good deal of patience and persistence.

Gotoco is actually such a brilliant platform for young individuals to explore teaching in a foreign country, the company helps you put a foot forward into something new - then they stop at just one foot. Unfortunately I think sometimes the whole team bites off more than they can chew. In hindsight, a lot of the pre-depature information was lackluster and useless. If you want to be fully prepared, especially for the 6-month fellowship, do your own extensive research and do not rely on the company. Upon reflection, the advice and information given by the company pre-departure had absolutely no relevance to the programme I was joining. They recommended a backpack rather than a suitcase for a 6 month (and potentially 12 months if you extend) programme, which is absurd. In a way, they almost recommended the individual to not bring much at all - even downplaying the costs of living abroad, claiming that individuals will not be spending alot while in Thailand. The team completely misinformed me and the other participants to the point where a participant had to quit half way through the programme.

Which leads me to something extremely important - hidden fees and costs. While I was fully aware that Gotoco no longer provided a free programme, I was not expecting to spend much once I spent almost £2,000 to participate in the programme. I am not complaining about the costs, as it was what I prepared for and anticipated - however, the hidden fees and costs once you were placed with their Tesol/Tefl counterparts was appalling. Gotoco delayed our visa completion by months and had no intention of informing our cohort up until we all chased it up. This delay meant that multiple participants had to do a border-run to renew their tourist visa at their OWN cost. Gotoco offered absolutely no compensation up until we all complained, and the only compensation they offered was to reimburse the 1,900baht cost of getting a tourist visa extended officially with Thai immigration.

Across the entire 6 months, we all struggled with consistent communication and support. We were racking up costs in terms of unnecessary travel to do border runs and whenever I gave feedback on their appalling service they never accepted responsibility and just shifted the blame onto something else.

It even got to a point where the location we were placed at in Thailand was declared an official war-zone due to border conflict and the only support we got was a consolation email once or twice. There was no active plan of evacuation or ensuring that participants would be taken to a safe place during conflict. The company that employed us (Tesoltree) also failed to give us an advance payment so we could leave the area, meaning all participants were stuck in a ‘war-zone’ with no means of getting out. There was no level of concern for any of us, we relied more on helpful locals than a company that was responsible for us.

Overall, I am grateful to Gotoco for enabling me to have this experience and make friends with other participants but there is much to improve on severely. This company has so much potential, with a little more knowledge and organisation I think they could deliver a beautiful, stress-free, long-term programme to new participants.

Very happy with my Gotoco placement in China organized by Jared and the gotoco team. They were fast and reliable responders whenever we had issues and the overall program was a trip of a lifetime.

In July 2025, I had the opportunity to join a two-week intensive summer camp in Guangzhou, China after being recruited by Gotoco. Gotoco handled the recruitment and placement, while the camp organisation itself provided support on-site. I worked as an English teacher, focusing on both language development and public speaking, following a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach. The camp provided pre-designed lesson materials, which made preparation easier, although I still found myself spending a couple of hours most evenings adapting content for my classes.
Alongside teaching, I was also involved in leading afternoon craft sessions and organizing evening activities like games. These parts of the day pushed me out of my comfort zone but turned out to be some of the most rewarding. I especially enjoyed working closely with the students and watching them grow in confidence over the two weeks.
The camp was certainly intense. Each day was fast-paced, but I came away with stronger teaching, leadership, and communication skills.
One of the most memorable moments was our camp dance. The kids loved it so much that we ended up performing it constantly. Even now, whenever I hear the song, I feel like dancing along again!
I would definitely recommend Gotoco to anyone looking to step outside their routine and have a short-term adventure abroad while gaining valuable professional experience. As each camp is unique, your experience may vary depending on the placement, but for me, it was a memorable adventure.

Amazing experience, a great way to practise teaching, explore new countries/ cultures and meet likeminded people. Everyone on the Gotoco team was very welcoming and supportive throughout the whole process, they did an amazing job at keeping us safe and informed whilst teaching and travelling. I had a really good time meeting new people from across the world and forming friendships whilst exploring new places together. Definitely worth experiencing, such an immersive, rewarding way to spend Summer!

I would recommend Gotoco to anyone who is serious about becoming an ESL teacher. Not only do you get the TESOL certification but you get the teaching experience which can help you decide whether the career is for you and help you with future roles.
