I have subscribed to Share Adviser for quite a few years. Whilst some recommendations have not worked out, a number have produced significant returns. After the Brexit vote they recommended 4 stocks BBA Aviation, Diploma, Shopify (then around $34 a share) and Restore, all of which produced great returns.
I'm surprised at the number of negative reviews. I can only conclude that some expect too much. Motley Fool do their research and come to reasonable conclusions. But they don't have a crystal ball. Investors have a responsibility, I think, to be careful and not simply invest in a recommendation they haven't looked into themselves. Consider Motley Fool as a starting point, not a rubber stamp. Most of the recommendations I leave alone. Those I have picked have for the most part done well, far better than the annual fee.
I have been using the Motley Fool share advisor service for nearly 10 years and have done well with it. Indeed I am a rather cautious investor and mostly stick to their ICE recommendations which on average have performed rather well and provide regular dividends. I have developed over the years a wide portfolio of mostly UK shares and what I appreciate most is the regular updates we get which give me a sense of security I would not have if I had to follow the market myself. I leave their FIRE recommendations to the more adventurous investors.
Excellent site with balanced very well researched articles. I’ve been a paid member of Hidden Winners for a few years and each time renewal comes round I always consider the quality of research and advice is well worth the fee. Highly recommended.
Too much spam, which distracts from the paid for service. Sometimes intermittent coverage and reviews. Some “Best Buy now” recommended shares falling by very large double digits losses in the following week. Cross selling other services makes you wonder why you’re paying for the one you have.
Love their service and trusted advice, I have been using both their Share Advisor and Hidden Winners services for many years as a useful guide investing my SIPP. If you are looking for a no nonsense approach and candid advice in investing in the stock market I cannot recommend them enough.
I have joined the service twice now . Over a 10 year time period , I would say mostly good advice but they having a bad run at the moment , but there philosophy is to stay in for 3 to 5 yeers or longer. And they save allot of time doing the research, you should do yourself. I have been investing over 39 years and still look for help and advice.
Motley Fool provides a share advisory service that helps normal savers to take advantage of the stock market. Just follow the rules and work toward a long-term investment.
I used to subscribe 20 years ago and have recently rejoined. There are 2 areas which I am unhappy with:-
1. I am only interested in UK stocks. Probably unwise but the vast majority of stock picks fall on deaf ears. I would happily subscribe to UK edition only.
2. Too much advertising of your products, too much spiel about providing info
I would prefer something along the lines of:
This month's recommendation is ABC
Sector
Recent Price
P/E
Dividend
Concise comments
I am seriously thinking of cancelling my subscription.
I am quite new to investing and use the fool to assist me choosing the shares I invest in. I do not always purchase what is recommended. I would say it is good value.
I have been a subscriber for many years but I think the service is deteriorating. The reason for subscribing was to get good tips to beat the market. It appears that to get the best tips you have to keep taking out additional subscriptions to their many other services (all through hard-sell tedious emails). I had two of these services but now only have the basic one and Hidden Winners (which has been slightly better). Most of their tips on the basic service have been mediocre and indeed because they have a reluctance to recommend a "sell" timeously I have hung on too long with several that they kept telling me to top up before recommending to sell at a loss! They seem to be a decent bunch of people but most of their buy recommendations in recent months/years are going nowhere, even the Fire recommendations which are now almost exclusively American markets, as if there are no UK tips worth giving. The excuse is that MF are "long-term" investors but that's no reason to go in at the wrong time! I'm afraid that I have done better with my own stock picks! I can't speak for their multitude of extra subscription services but I expected better of the basic service without having to pay more for the best tips! I'm afraid that I wouldn't subscribe if I had my time again and I hope that in the "long-term" their tips may yet come into positive territory but it will be a long way off.
I’ve been a member now for quite a few years and have always found their reviews and recommendations note worthy.
They review undervalued companies e.g Barclays, when pointed out at 0.90p it seemed obviously so bought and doubled my money. Also growth stocks and sector stocks with another recommendation, Glencore, bought at £2.32, I still hold that now at £5.30.
The coverage is very good and would recommend being a member as there are also exclusive recommendations before they go fully public.
Some good recommendations, some not so good. Overhyped commercials that require a higher fee
No financial advisors get it right 100% of the time but I have found Motley Fool is good value for money. I have certainly made a profit on being a member and have saved myself making at least one potentially costly mistake. So I am well satisfied with their advice and every year when my membership comes up for renewal I realise I have made much more from following their tips than my membership costs.
Great advice, reliable advice, service second to none
Often the same research is promoted but marketed as new.
I’ve been with Hidden Winners since 2016 when I swapped to it from Share Advisor. I apply my own judgement to the recommendations and follow about 70%. They’ve introduced me to several winning companies I wouldn’t have seen for myself. Each year I review the subscription cost and so far it has proved worthwhile and still puts my returns well ahead of the market.
I’m trying Microcaps - I like the concept and there has been an interesting selection so far, but it’s too early to judge success yet.
The marketing emails are crude, a derivative of the US approach, but it’s not hard to filter them once you’ve assessed each offering.
Overall, an enjoyable and profitable companion on my investing journey.
Motley Fool had always been interesting, incisive and provided some awesome investment pointers. Sure, not everything works out but that is life. Over the last 10 plus years I have picked up some gems! It has to be one of your tools in your investment decision making.
Motley Fool gives clear advice on the Investments they favour, and follow up on those investments.
Over the last six or seven years, the performance of their investments has been generally good, despite the Pandemic, war in Europe and overall varied times!
