Shut them down!

Their my.equifax report is completely different than what their actual report shows. I tried to address that, and now I can’t login. It says I have to call. Trying to use the lost password way says I have no account, and trying to sign up says I have an existing account. And on it goes in a circle. I call and they have no idea what’s wrong. They said I’ll get an email from tech support in ten days. Shut them down.

They have my last name

They have my last name, address and DOB incorrect. The customer service agent told me to dispute it online by sending a copy of my drivers license, proof of mail and security card via online which I did and they still haven’t changed it. They came back stating it was “complete”. Then sent me a research request form by mail to send them the same information again! I’m actually going to seek legal action if they don’t resolve this matter soon. My credit is very important to me as well as everyone else’s! Transunion and Experian were both great to work with and have updated my information over the phone without any issues. Equifax has been the worst service ever!!!

Only the paper report is real.

Equifax seems...fine. Certainly they are on par with the other credit reporting agencies, and far superior to ChexSystems in my opinion. That's why they get 3/5. But this review focuses on one thing about them that stinks to high heaven:

Your credit report is not actually your credit report. ONLY YOUR PAPER REPORT IS REAL!!!

I'm used to pulling my report electronically and making sure everything's correct. It always has been correct, as far as I know. Every so often I've had some verification issues or issues with Equifax-related web services. I figured it was random errors or something.

Little did I know that there are secret addresses and other information that is IN YOUR CREDIT FILE BUT IS NOT DISPLAYED in the "credit report" section of the website. This is dangerously negligent.

According to customer service reps, there has been an incorrect address secretly on my report for an unknown period of time. They said that it would show up on my paper report but not on the website. This was confirmed by multiple reps.

They tried to tell me that I needed to submit a dispute, but finally I got the real answer from a supervisor. They just deleted the address right then and there, and then immediately two Equifax-based web services that had been broken for at least 6 months started working again.

Also, this wrong address was the only way that I could authenticate on the phone system, until the supervisor deleted it. After that, I was immediately able to authenticate using my real address, which had been impossible until then.

Again, this wrong address does not show up anywhere on the website, including in the dispute screen. The supervisor said that they are "working on it"; of course, there is no public communication anywhere in the universe that they are working on it or that it is an issue.

I have run into several authentication issues over the past several years, one of which is definitely due to Equifax (which I was only able to figure out after multiple hours on the phone talking to E*TRADE; there was no inquiry on my Equifax report that would have tipped me off and the E*TRADE reps were clearly not trained to deal with Equifax's BS--I don't blame them).

The fact that the wrong address is not in the online list of disputable items is pretty annoying; that means that, even once you manage to find the secret wrong address, the CSRs will try to BS you and tell you that you need to submit a dispute; then you will think that you can't do it online so you have to do it by snail mail, send your most sensitive documents in the mail and wait weeks for it to get fixed. But we know that the reality is that a supervisor can fix it instantly.

All hail that supervisor, they were amazing. Respect to all the CSRs, Equifax's BS is not their fault, and especially the first CSR who is the only reason I found out about that trash address.

I don't think this error occurred because my file is particularly complex or thin. All my addresses are correct on all my accounts, have been for years, I've never been associated with this wrong address. My Equifax credit file is over 11 year old, I have a card going back 11 years and an inquiry history going back at least 2 years. On equifax.com I have one name, one address, one SSN, one DOB, one phone number, and they match all my accounts. To my knowledge, nobody has ever stolen my identity or opened an account in my name. I've lived at the same place for 10 years, never changed my name. For the verification issues I know of, there was no "middle initial" issue.

I dated this review 4/5/2024, because that's the most recent date that I knowingly had an Equifax-related authentication problem (E*TRADE application got kicked to manual verification due to no response from Equifax, a secret no-response which I had to pry from E*TRADE's cold dead hands).

Since I originally posted this review last week, I also noticed that Equifax allows the user to view their full SSN. This can be accessed using only email address and password, and there is no 2FA option. This is not a great practice; TransUnion and Experian don't allow viewing full SSN.

Complain to CFPB, sue them under FCRA

You submit a dispute for credit reporting errors and upload proof but all they do is ask the company reporting erroneously if they made an error, and if the company says “nope,” then nothing is corrected. I am complaining to the CFPB and then I am suing YOU, Equifax, under the FCRA, because YOU do not correct errors obvious even on the face of the report when pointed out. I also have now some lady using my social security number to open accounts but fear putting a fraud alert on my file because last time I did that their outsourcing to India of the fraud department caused me to spend 2 years trying to get the fraud alert lifted after the identity theft was resolved. They are horribly incompetent and rely on outdated data mining from Lexis Nexis. Their latest data breach has resulted in an active identify theft. My scores are artificially low due to false information on my report that they will not “investigate” but only ask the equally incompetent creditor reporting it whether it is accurate. Maybe they will improve at sharing information during discovery as codefendants.

What an absolute NIGHTMARE!!!

I had my identity stolen and was trying to put a freeze on my credit reports. Dealing with Equifax has been a nightmare! Once I created my account the identification questions were so old, I did not remember all of the information, so I did not pass. It was required for them to send me something in the mail. Once I finally received and tried to use the verification code following all the instructions in the letter, I could still not get in. I had to call again and again and had to keep trying to give them my information because their system was not accepting either my voice response or the keypad response. At long last, I got in and then went through the same thing, over and over again just trying to get to an agent. Even then it was extremely difficult and required me to prove who I was many times with the agent and through their website. I would never use them and certainly not purchase any of their products.

Equifax is a joke

Equifax is a joke. They have always been the lowest of all my scores but what happened recently takes the cake. I disputed a balance on a credit card with all three bureaus. Equifax was the only one this action affected my score with. It went down 21 points. After the dispute was resolved and it came out my balance was $1000 less and another card was also less it only went up 16 points. To make it worse the customer service couldn’t tell me anything about why my score went down by that much. So now my Experian is 697, my transUnion is 669 and yet my Equifax is up 16 points from 596 to 612. Why do they even exist? I can’t think of anytime that a loan company has said they used Equifax only anyway. I don’t know how these reviews will effect Equifax but they really are a useless credit bureau.

Don't sign up for any service with Equifax!

Don't sign up for any service with Equifax! I cancelled my credit reporting service with them but they wouldn't quit charging my credit card even after I cancelled it. I called them multiple times to resolve it but they didn't do anything. This went on for almost 2 years so I finally had to close my credit card to get them to stop charging me.

What an appalling company

What an appalling company, how is a business allowed to put defamatory remarks against your name without any double checking or confirmation
from the effected party, and then after irrefutably proving its wrong they delegate the responsibility to everyone but themselves for not removing it. Surely they must have accountability for these defamatory entries
This can only affect your credit score, leading to higher borrowing costs.
How can a business be allowed to carry on like this?
How is compensation awarded for such un-professionalism.

Business service even worse

As a long time business customer I can say that their business customer service is even worse. Hard to believe but true. They changed to a cloud service for contact for everything from form requests to making payments and went from bad to horrible. I can pay my suppliers online line in a matter of moments but can't get into Equifax to do something as simple as paying my monthly billing. It's been the same every month since the changeover and I can't even get a rep on the phone to change from online billing to paper (mail). So, I'll just hold payment and wait for the inevitable email threat, maybe that will have a number I can call. Horrible service.

The worst customer support I have ever experienced

Received an email saying there was a change on the credit report, tried to log in and it just came up with page saying to phone customer support. Phoned them and was told they wanted the email address. It sounded like a scam so we offered to tell them only certain letters of the email address so they could verify it against the one they held. They refused so we cannot get access to the account. Apart from the customer support being abroad somewhere with staff that are extremely difficult to understand. Awful Awul service.

Can't unfreeze credit

I'm trying to cancel the freeze I put on my credit so my husband and I can buy a house. So far, four phone calls lasting at least 45 minutes each and told the freeze was off. Only it isn't. Horrible horrible horrible customer service. They need to find people who can speak English too.

Equifax Does Not Care

After 2.5 months (6 calls) and a Better Business Complaint, Equifax has been unable to determine a root cause and resolution for me to access my security freeze. Customer Service is nonexistent. I would recommend not purchasing any product, or doing any business with Equifax. The cost in frustration is too high!
