Please do not use this company

Please, please, please do not use this company. I'm getting married in July and I went to David's Bridal in Stratford in April ready to choose a dress. I had already more or less decided it wasn't going to be a traditional wedding dress so booked into their bridesmaid section as then I could look at what looked like a great selection of bridesmaid and prom dresses.

The staff were very friendly at the door but straight away there were hints that their customer service was not all it could be. The assistant who looked after me and my friend was already having to juggle two other sets of clients so there were long pauses when we had to wait for her to become available. I even spotted a traditional wedding dress which I asked if I could try on to see if I had fully made up my mind not to go that route. The assistant said she didn't think that was possible as we were booked downstairs not upstairs and did not come back to me when I asked if she could check whether upstairs could help!

All of the styles of dresses I tried on had to be pinned as they were too big so I had to trust the assistant to measure carefully and then advise me on the correct size to buy. I found a dress and duly ordered the size she recommended. And then I waited and I heard nothing.

About a month and a half later I received a voicemail telling me that my dress had been sitting in the shop for three weeks and if I didn't claim it soon they would have to send it back. This was the first I had heard of it. I tried to call numerous times with no pick up, but eventually managed to get through to someone to pay £12 to get the dress sent to me.

When the dress arrived I was really excited only to find that when I tried it on it was too tight on the shoulders and on the waist. I tried to phone them 15 times but no-one picked up. I tried to contact them on their online form 3 times, but no-one responded. Eventually one day I did manage to get hold of someone in the alterations department as I couldn't get through to the shop. They promised me a call back. No-one called back. Eventually I wrote a letter.

The letter worked like magic, well sort of, as I did get someone to actually call me and they left a message. I called back and spoke to Debbie (who seemed really nice and efficient on the phone and is quite possibly being hampered by absolutely atrocious systems which have nothing to do with her). She explained I'd have to pay to send the dress back and then they could order me one. Worst case scenario would be that it would arrive a week or two before my wedding but she stressed this would really be the worst case. So I duly paid another £8 to send the dress back this time by Royal Mail.

I was, however, quizzed on whether I could measure myself again to get the absolutely correct size and then check it on the charts on their UK website. I did measure myself out of curiosity but couldn't find their UK website measurements. I DID however discover their US site measurements as well as a number of customer reviews which seemed to conclude that if you're a small size (8-10) then the dresses come up too big, but if like me you're a larger size then they come up too small. I would have expected customer services to know this when ordering.

And so, to end the story. I sent the dress back and they had it out on order. Last week (3 weeks before my wedding) I phoned them. After another 15 attempts I got through to someone. They didn't know if my dress would be coming in on time, but they promised they would contact Head Office to find out whether it would be in Wednesday's shipment and to phone me back that same day (Friday). I got no call back. Saturday and Sunday went past, I got no call back. Monday I managed to get through to someone and they said they didn't know, but put me onto a senior member of the team (Val?) who promised that on Wednesday they would check the shipment and give me a call back to let me know if it had arrived but also advised me to buy an emergency dress to replace it.

Reader, would you like to guess what happened next? No call back. Finally this Wednesday I called them again to find out whether the dress had arrived. After a while on hold I finally got through to someone who confirmed it had not arrived (2.5 weeks before the wedding) and I finally had to go with a refund.

After all that, it is an enormous relief not to have to deal with them again. The refund is now in my bank account so I wrote this review. Please, please, please save yourself time, money and stress and just go elsewhere to buy your dress for your wedding. Customer service as shoddy as this should not be rewarded, and I'm so glad that I really don't need the dress to make it my 'special day' but I hate to think of others having to go through this.

what an amazing store

what an amazing store. we were looking for bridesmaid dresses and there is so many styles and colours to choose from...a task that Georgia (the fabulous assistant looking after us) made an absolute breeze! 2 gowns in the perfect size in the brides choice of colour chosen in the calmest hour I'd had all day! she even found shoes to fit the girl who can never find shoes that fit...double bonus!

I went to Davids Bridal UK in Westfield…

I went to Davids Bridal UK in Westfield Stratford at the end of June to get my bridesmaids dresses . I was served by the lovely lady named Hafiza. She was patient and listened to my needs carefully considering that I was ordering 6x dresses all in one day.
5* goes to her for her excellent customer service. Overall, Davids Bridal- you are all amazing. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful experience every time.

It s a shame I have to give 1 star as…

It s a shame I have to give 1 star as it is not deserved.
I went into Davids Bridal Watford, and bought my daughters prom dress for £220. This experience was great. It needed altering so booked it in even though it cost half the dress price.. The seamstress was rude to my daughter as she had no shoes yet.
We collected the dress and was not given option to try it on. So went home to find I paid £120 for them to ruin the dress, I am no seamstress but i could have done a better job. It looks like they let a year 7 textiles student at it. Very unprofessional finish, cut wonky lining left hanging.
I emailed them asking for money back to which so far they have ignored.
Do not go here unless you want your dress ruined

Don’t care once they’ve made a sale

It is with great disappointment that I find myself writing this complaint to yourselves. In what was supposed to be a special and memorable experience for my fiancée selecting and collecting her wedding dress was ruined due to rude and unhelpful staff from your (Birmingham, UK) store.

On Saturday 9th April 2022, my partner entered the store with 2 members of her immediate family and a close friend. It was at this time she was assisted by Georgia (who for the record was wonderful and could not help my fiancée enough) where my fiancée chose her dress. Whilst discussing payment options, it was stated that my partner could pay off 50% of the dress and the remaining 50% could be paid in 90 days on 8th July 2022 (which also states on receipt). With this payment plan as an option, my partner agreed to put the 50% down and as agreed collect the dress on or prior to 8th July 2022.
It was on the 26th May that the ‘Special and Memorable Experience’ took a turn for the worse when my fiancée received a call from the Birmingham store stating that she would need to pay the remaining balance and collect the dress on 8th June. After disputing with your sales assistant for several minutes that the receipt shows clearly ‘Final Payment Date 08/07/2022’, your sales assistant then become insensitive and refused to listen to what my fiancée had to say whilst also stating that if the remaining balance is not paid then my fiancée would lose the deposit placed on the dress and lose out on the dress. In a fear of panic that we may now lose out on £450 and her perfect dress, my partner agreed to come and collect the dress on the 8th June. When asked if she can try on her dress to check if any alterations would be needed, again the sales assistant was once again unsensitive and unhelpful and advised that this could not take place.
Unfortunately, the list of poor customer service doesn’t end there. On collection of the dress from the store, once inspected and payment was made, your sales assistant Angelica advised that the dress would not fit inside a bag. With my partner making plans to go for food around the corner and not wanting to trapse her £900+ dress around a restaurant, she requested if the dress could be kept in store for an hour or so and could collected after eating. Your sales assistant had stated that the store closed at 7pm so as long as my partner returned to the store prior to this time then someone would be able to pass the dress on to my fiancée. Unfortunately, this was not the case as when my partner returned to the shop at 6:35pm, the shop was fully shut and no members of staff were around resulting in now another trip to the shop which is a 45 mile round trip.

Such a disappointing experience for which was supposed to be a pleasant memory that would have lasted a life time. It seems like once David’s Bridal have a sale, they no longer care about the brides needs or feelings.

Had we have had a better experience then we would have also of purchased 6 bridesmaids dresses, shoes, robes and pyjamas but we will now shop elsewhere for these.

I do wish I could give 1 star!

Lets start by saying the original day trying on and finding a bridesmaid dress was fine - The assistant was helpful and quite chatty, nothing really worried us about that. My sister tried on a range of dresses (PICKED BY THE ASSISTANT BASED ON STYLES WE LIKED) in a size 6/8 and they fit very well - We made a choice and proceeded with the transaction - My sister was then measured in her winter jumper tights and a skirt, We asked if this would be an issue and the assistant said not. her measurements put her as a 6 up top - 8 waist and 10 hips so to get the 10. We were confused as to why that would be the case but were told by 2 other assistants that it was right.

Fast forward to collecting the dress and it was huge, the dress hung off my sister like it belonged to someone else. The assistant that helped us remeasured in the dress and took over an inch off every measurement, admitting an error was made and that the staff member was new. They returned the original dress and reordered a dress 2x smaller based on her new measurements. This dress has arrived this week and is gorgeous, fits perfectly not an issue.

Now the issue, their website states if you need to do an exchange and the price has gone down you will be given store credit for the difference. When we returned the wrong dress to re-order the correct one the price had gone down by £35. Now had the price gone up by £35 do you think they would have neglected to tell us? I think not. We only noticed the price difference when gathering the receipts for the new collection.

The store manager argued with my mother, stating we ordered the exact same dress and so were entitled to nothing, A direct breach of their own policies. They were rude and obnoxious asking my mother to read the measurements over and over instead of actually listening to the issue. Eventually she offered store credit, at which I laughed, that was the very least that should have been offered in the first place.

I have been promised a call back today, I'm sure I'll be offered a store credit for a shop I would not like to step foot in again a day in my life. My sister (bridesmaid) is actually engaged now and looking for her bridesmaids dresses, I'm sure you can guess where we will steer clear of, store credit or not.

Horrible Communication

Worst alterations experience ever, they where not sure how to alter the dress to what I needed for my dress and after explaining to them what we wanted and stating that they understood what to do, so they called me a few hours before my appointment and the dress was still not finished and was not touched for the second time and still because of confusion. It was past the deadline and I decided to get a refund and I will never be returning to the David's Bridal in Charlotte, NC located in Northlake Shopping Center.

The lovey staff in Alterations were amazing! So kind, caring, professional and friendly. Alternation appointment with my daughter was as much fun and as special as the actual dress buying thanks to the superb team at Westfield Stratford. A brilliant experience!

Wedding Dress purchase & alterations

I purchased a beautiful wedding dress from David's Bridal at 1340 Salem Road SW in Rochester, MN. I needed a few alterations to make the dress fit perfectly. The scheduling of the initial alterations appointment went smoothly. I felt heard in the requests for the changes needed and was informed of the amount of time and cost for the alteration. Alterations are expensive no matter how much altering is needed, but well worth the price! A few weeks later, I went back to David's Bridal to ensure that the alterations made were to my liking. Once the dress was buttoned all the way, I was very pleased with the alterations. The length of my dress was absolutely perfect! I was a little uncertain about the bust, but was reaffirmed by the staff. I was really thankful for the communication with various staff at David's Bridal and if anything else came up they would be more then willing to assist. Thank you!!

Excellent service and lovely environment

We had just come from a flustering, cluttered prom dress store and were stressed and unhappy. The moment we stepped into David's, that changed. David's was spacious and calm with lovely, well organised dresses to choose from. Louise, our personal stylist, put our daughter completely at ease, was helpful and came up with some excellent recommendations after listening to our daughter's thoughts. The changing rooms were simple and charming with plenty of space. The whole experience was absolutely wonderful and we got "The" dress. I'd give more stars if I could!

David’s Bridal Alterations RIPPED my dress

David’s bridal has the WORST customer service I have ever had to deal with. Their alterations department RIPPED my dress and refuse to accept responsibility or do anything about it. I’m 2 months out from my wedding and don’t have a dress with NO HELP from the company who ripped my dress.
In February 2022 I scheduled my alterations appointment, for February 13th. The dress had fit great, zipped up with no issue, and no excess room. I needed to have the dress hemmed, a bustle added, and asked about the way the dress didn't lay flat across my chest. I had my appointment and explained what I wanted/needed to have done. At the end of the appointment I scheduled my follow up appointment for pick up. I showed up for my pick up on March 31st, at which time the dress had been hemmed, the bustle added, and the sides were taken in. Now the dress didn't wouldn't zip up because it was taken in on the sides (even though it fit perfectly at my first fitting). The alterations department said they would take it back out and return for another appointment. When I returned for that appointment on April 14th the dress had been let out on the sides and fit again but I still had the issue that the dress didn't lay flat. This time the alterations department said they could take in the front where the bust seam was, and to come back for another appointment. I returned for another appointment on April 28th, at which point they had taken the dress in on the sides (again) and it wouldn't zip up. Once again they told me they would take the dress out and to return for yet another appointment. A week later I show up for another appointment on May 5th. The dress had been let out on the sides, back to its original size. After another discussion about what was "wrong" with the dress and it not laying flat she told me to take it off and to let her do something else and to come back in 2 hours and this time she would fix it. I left and returned to the store 2 hours later. When I returned it was again taken in on the sides, and the dress wouldn't zip. She was trying to zip it and ripped my dress in the back. Yes ripped the back of my dress, and I heard the material rip. My mom was in the room and the lady doing the alterations threw the piece on the floor. My mom picked up the piece off the floor and the alterations lady snatched it out of her hand and told her its fine it can be fixed. At this point I am more than frustrated at the number of times I have been to alterations appointments, the number of alterations that were done agains what I was telling them was wrong, and the fact that now my dress was RIPPED. After I took the dress off this time she took the dress to the back again and finally fixed the boning (I think that is the term they used) in the dress to make it lay flat across the front. Now that the dress fit and was laying the way it should I had to make another appointment so that the rip and beading could be fixed. The manager and the one doing the alterations assured me the rip could be fixed, they had plenty of beading and everything would be fixed when I returned the following week to pick up my dress.
I returned 1 week later to pick up my dress. The alterations manager came out to speak with me. She proceeded to tell me they couldn't find the beading that would match what is on the dress, and that there is nothing they could do about the rip, but they tried to fix it. She showed me the dress. The beading that they chose didn't match (not the same size, shape, color, or material) , the beading pattern didn't match the rest of the dress, and the rip still there with beading overtop of it. She told be that this was the best that they could do - I would personally be embarrassed to ever admit that this was their best work. They kept the dress again and said they would work on it some more. I returned again on May 12th for another appointment and the dress still looked the same, with no changes to anything that was wrong with the dress. I refused to accept the dress in that condition.

A MAGICAL SHOPPING EXPERIENCE!

How do you put into words the magical experience we had at Davids Bridal prom dress shopping? Alaina (Lane) helped us find "The dress" that met all of my daughters' expectations and more. You try not to have color expectations when you shop especially when you are looking for a conservative beautiful princess like dress that doesn't break the bank. Every single box was checked for us and even some we never thought of. Lane was diligent and so very helpful never rushing us but making us feel like her top priority. If I could tuck that image of seeing my daughters face when she tried on "the dress" and put it in my favorite memories I would. I think everybody had misty eyes. Thank you Davids Bridal for such an amazing experience. My experience with Lane and the store manager will always have me coming back to Davids in the future and recommending it to everyone. Thank you!

Second visit to Stratford store.

This was our second visit looking for bridesmaid dresses after the first visit was unpleasant and unsuccessful.
We had Bene as our stylist this time round. She was great. She was really calm all the way through our appointment even when she was serving us and another party. She listened to what we wanted, gave us time to choose dresses and made suggestions based on what we said. It didn’t feel like anything was too much trouble and she did it all with a smile on her face. She made our experience feel how it should when choosing bridesmaids dresses and we ended up buying dresses, belts and shoes for the bridesmaids and maid of honour. Thank you Bene you redeemed my view of the store. I only didn’t give it a 5 because I feel like this should have been our experience from the first time round rather than having to make a complaint and then have another go.

Friday 13th May 2022 Westfield…

Friday 13th May 2022 Westfield Stratford.

Went in without an appointment to look at Mother of Bride dresses, I was told I could look and if I liked anything they would see if they have space in a fitting room. I found 6 I liked and we found a changing room and Zachary would be looking after me.

Zachary was rushed off his feet with a large party of bridesmaids who were keeping him very busy, but he was incredibly helpful and found me the right sizes for some of my choices. He was very kind and found other dresses that he thought I might like.

Only 4 stars because there is not a huge range of dresses in there for Mother of the Bride, also I think the dresses I could see were all the last of the ones they had in stock, so not many sizes to choose from, that said I did find one I really liked which I bought. There are lots on line but a very small section actually in the shop hence the 4 stars.

Zachary though was absolutely brilliant, thank you, you made feel special and important.

Scam

Update: 05/24/2022 they have screwed up my nieces Jr. Bridesmaid dress. Too short. Their error basically it was oh well. NONE of my bridesmaids were properly fitted. I purchased a dress there, a little larger, all were ordered. They don't carry sizes close you yours for each dress, so it's a guessing game. Once the dress had to be altered because it was huge, that bill came out to as much as the dress. And, of course they don't tell you that until you are done being pinned up and fitted for the alterations. Also , the bridesmaid dresses are just about as much to alter. Such a scam, and impossible to return the dresses that you order because they don't carry the proper size to try on at the stores, so it's a guessing game. Also I was told that the dress would be cleaned during altering, it better be free of charge. Since i had to try my dress on with a bunch of prom goers and had sequince and glitter all over the dressing room during trying it on.

prefect dress, nightmare delivery and communication.

I found my perfect bridesmaid dresses at David's Bridal Watford in December (my wedding is in July '22). 3 of my 4 bridesmaids were with me and measured up on the spot. The dresses arrived and were sent to me- all good so far. What the team failed to mention is that the dresses all come up big and will need to be altered (they did book us in for alterations when we were there but as they took measurements and ordered off of this I assumed the dresses would somewhat fit and would only need to be taken up). All aside one dress are HUGE and will need major alterations to even be worn. I then ordered my 4th dress. I was never notified it had come (this was the start of the year) as they had taken my details down wrong. I then paid for it to be sent and it never arrived. After some digging it turns out it had been 'lost' by the courier. I rang David's bridal and they managed to track the same dress down in Birmingham and said it would be sent to Watford to then be sent to me. I requested it be sent to my nearest store (Stratford) and I would collect it as I don't trust the courier now to which I was told this wouldn't be a problem. I have heard nothing since. It was over a week ago and its now May- the dress will still need to be altered when I eventually get it. I have repeatedly tried calling to no answer or to be cut off with the promise of a call back which never happens. Finally got through to the Stratford store who rang be back hours after being cut off and requested me call back. I cannot get through. The whole process has been so stressful and the opposite of straight forward. It has honestly been one of the most stressful parts of planning the wedding and I am once again left not knowing if my bridesmaid is going to have a dress to wear. The lack of communication is the problem..... I guess I'll keep trying to call but honestly even though the dresses are perfect I would never recommend them for the stress its causing me.

So I’ve already written a review which…

So I’ve already written a review which wasn’t good. This was 9 days ago. On the same day I reca phone call apologising for my experience. I was offered a discount in the shop which I wasn’t interested in as I had the bridesmaids dresses. I suggested they take the hens up on the dresses, I was told by the lady on the phone that she would speak to the store manager and get back to me although it would be at a discounted price. As yet I haven’t received another phone call or any form of compensation for my experience. What a poor set up.

More like a sales pitch

Hmm it was very disappointing. As I had come all the way from Wellingborough to try out a dress in the David’s Bridal’s Stratford store as my opinion was since it is in London they’d have more options.
It felt more like she wanted to make a sale on the dress without caring how the bride felt.
She insisted on me putting on underwear I had met on the floor in the changing room even though I mentioned I wasn’t comfortable with it.

While dressing up, she opened the changing room severally to watch other brides who rang a bell which irritated me as I was naked getting changed into dresses.

I literally cried out of there. I had been to other wedding and bridal stores and their staff were polite and helping out. Instead she was unavailable most of the time leaving me to help myself.

She also snapped at my friend I came with as he was trying to get her to understand my style.
I’m highly highly disappointed.
Made the whole wedding shopping very miserable for me that day.

Wish I could give a zero star.
It was so bad to the point that she measured me and was bringing in clothes 10 times bigger than I am. I was so embarrassed to the point where I couldn’t leave the changing room to see myself on the bigger mirror.
