AirTransat best avoided.

Best avoided.
Trouble with booking this mob, if you are UK based, is that if things change, getting in touch is a nightmare.
In my case they changed my flight to unsuitable times twice. First time they sorted it, and although time consuming I got through on the free toll number. Second time free toll wouldn't connect and there is no other way to sort an issue. Cost me £240 to speak to an agent who was worse than useless. They refused to put me back on my original flight, despite having the original still on sale. I gave up and managed to cancel on line but they only deal with other issues by phone. Absolutely hopeless. Plenty other providers out there, Airtransat just not worth the hassle.

I am extremely disappointed with Air Transat

I am extremely disappointed with Air Transat. I purchased a flexible ticket specifically for the ability to change my return flight if needed. Shockingly, I was told flexibility only applied once — after that, no changes allowed. What’s the point of paying extra for “flexibility” if it isn’t truly flexible? Customer service was dismissive, unhelpful, and offered no real solutions. As a frequent traveller, I have never had such poor treatment from any other airline. Save yourself the headache — if flexibility and customer care matter to you, do not choose Air Transat.

Paid twice, no ticket issued — forced to rebook at double the cost

I attempted to book a flight from Amsterdam to Toronto with Air Transat. I was charged twice — once for €346 and again for €567 — but never received a ticket or confirmation for either. I received no notification that the bookings had failed.

Only days later did I discover that both bookings had been cancelled and refunded. Because of this delay, I was forced to purchase a last-minute KLM ticket for €758.58 — more than double the original cost.

Air Transat refused to accept any responsibility, citing "price fluctuation" as justification. Their customer service showed zero accountability for the failure of their booking system or the lack of communication. I'm now pursuing a formal complaint with the Canadian Transportation Agency.

This experience was frustrating, time-consuming, and expensive. I would advise others to think twice before relying on this airline's booking platform or customer support.

Professional scammers

a major airline that is genuinely running actual scams of its customers. they claimed I hadn't paid for my additional baggage, I politely showed them multiple pieces of evidence that demonstrated I had more than one piece of baggage paid for, they ignored it, brought over a supervisor who threatened me. They skinned me of $137 CAD. I lodged a complaint in which they acknowledged they had overcharged me but still refused to give me the refund because the employees didn't give me a receipt. The whole thing felt like an orchestrated calculated attempt to wrongly skim some of its customers of their money. Not to mention this airline is awful quality and feels like flying RyanAir except for 7 hours. I have reported them to the CTA for baggage fraud and I will never fly with them again!

Not even worth one star !!!!!!!!…

Tried to book flights Madrid to Toronto over several days and ever time we got to the payment page it came up with transaction error, phone customer service. When you phone customer service, the call gets answered and then cuts off.

Before flying with this company , please read below my situation. I am still waiting for a reply... since August 2023.

Dear Customer relation team

I am writing to you today to complain about my recent flight to Canada from Europe using your airline. Please note this is a summary of the situation. If further details are needed by anyone I will expand.

The situation is as follows

I purchased a packaged flight and hotel deal from lastminute.com for a friend’s wedding a few months prior. When the transaction was completed I had noticed that my name had been abbreviated by an internal webpage error.

I contacted last minute.com immediately to rectify this and they had informed me to send my passport details to them so they were able to action the name change. The next day I was told that this could not be possible due to the airline. I was horrified that this could not be done as I was in jeopardy of missing the wedding. Lastminute.com opened a case and this was escalated to the complaints vip team. They had explained that I would need to contact the Air Transat team and explain to them the situation. As I was in Europe I was unable to call so I decided to speak to them via chat and an Air Transat assistant said that it was possible to change the name but it needed to come from the lastminute.com’s agents. I had informed Air Transat that I was told to by lastminute.com to contact them as they could not do it. I was sent back and forth between both companies a numerous amount of times which was extremely frustrating.

My fiancé (who was the other passenger on the flight) contacted Air Transat by telephone as the situation was getting out of hand, causing sleepless nights every day and a high amount of anxiety. He was informed by the telephone agent who could not speak English very well, due to the supervisor’s only being able to speak fluently in French and knew some English, that we had a to pay for another ticket. We asked her to update my name on the existing ticket and she said she will do it but was strongly advised to buy another ticket. I was so upset that I had to pay over £1000 for another ticket, even though I had an existing flight ticket. I purchased the ticket and proceeded to wait until our departure.

I arrived at the airport and my passport was checked by an Air Transat rep and they printed out my boarding pass for me and shockingly it was under the first ticket name that needed the name change. This meant that I did not need to pay for another ticket in the end which was a waste of my money and time- I was nearly in tears. I was able to board the plan under the name that I wanted to change and have my boarding ticket show this. I was so frustrated because this meant I had wasted money purchasing another ticket that was not needed, which was advised by Air Transat previously. I told the Air Transat representative and he said I am due a refund as there was no way I should be travelling under two tickets. He gave me this email address to contact you for the refund and was not happy that this had happened to me. He offered his sincere apologies.

I have attached my ticket confirmation that I would like to be refunded for and have included the names of the two tickets and the flight information below.

Stolen

I want to complain about all your emplo­yees , starting from the airport, service on the plane and ending with luggage.
We were on holiday with my family, me, my husband and two children to Canada
My sister gave us a set of 11 pieces of frying pans, a gift for the new year , since this contains glass we took in our hand luggage. We we­re told that the box doesn't fit in the.­.. And we split it in other bags. Then the guy took this bag to the luggage comp­artment, I didn't un­derstand the reason.
When we arrived at home, I noticed that it was missing one frying pan, (left 10 pieces) it had been stolen.
On board the plane, stewardes were rude and very impolite to us. She dropped a shoe on my head , wh­ich was on the top shelf, and didn't even apologize. She con­stantly warned me not to use the phone (I watch a movie), and doesn't allow oute­rwear to be stored on the top shelf . I think that for such a ticket price it mu­st be a good service.
We fly often but I have never seen anyt­hing like this.
And the most import­ant thing was that it shocked me when I got my luggage, my suitcase was broken .
I want to know what happened with the frying pan ?
I want to know why people like this are working with people, they must be polite and gentle? Why did they take my hand luggage to the lugga­ge compartment

Not a great experience

Not a great experience. Do not fly economy with this airline. Small leather seats with less leg room than a Ryan Air to Spain. Just travelled from Manchester to Toronto it was horrendous. Next leg was with sister company porter airline to Edmonton. Also bloody awful. Unfortunately while in Canada my wife had heart attack. Although we asked for assistance and was willing to pay for extra leg room and was promised this the return flight was more horrendous. Never again with this airline. !!!!!

RequestID 32341: Air Transat refuse to make a refund for a passenger who cannot take a flight because she is in the ICU of a hospital in London

Even though on Dec 16 my daughter Larissa LI is unfortunately admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Croydon University Hospital in London (UK) for a life-saving surgery, hence cannot possibly take the flight she booked in Nov from London to Toronto on Dec 24 (KQRZOZ); and even though I emailed a letter from the Hospital to Air Transat (AT) Customer Contact Center (1-877-TRANSAT) showing her current condition, AT management has firmly refused to make a refund, nor offer to make a time extension on this ticket, citing that my daughter is required to apply for the refund herself, or authorize a power of attorney to represent her.
This ridiculously unreasonable attitude of AT management and company culture has shocked me. I wonder what value does AT holds in serving the public, is profit-making the only goal that an airline should hold?

Option Minus not option plus

I have give air Transat 2 stars.
One for getting us there safely
One for bringing us back safely

The rest of the deal was really so so.
We bought the eco ticket then spent 158£ each for the added option plus. It’s the first and last time that will happen.
Most of the benefits were not real benefits at all. Of course we did not know that. Better just to pay the separate extortionate price for luggage and seating together , the rest of it you can just deal with. The priority checkin and boarding was wast of money , the onboard snack is minimal and once only. The alcohol was given to everyone so I don’tjnow y it’s included in the options. You can takee your own earphone warm cost or blanket. Can’t think of any other benefit listed.
Flight out was ok and pretty comfortable and speedy. Flight back was not good. Very uncomfortable whole trip , food rationed with a slice of cake and coffee for breakfast. Wow!
I tried to contact the company on my return for details on the option but I could not get thorough. Tried on chat but they just pasted the link despite me saying the text was not clear what was included

Avoid these and pay a bit more

Left us humping heavy bags with nowhere to sit when they could have checked us in. We were club class and staff were completely unhelpful. Never again

Pleased with direct flight Glasgow to Toronto, November 2023

Very pleased with the my direct flight from Glasgow to Toronto in November 2023. I had to make a round trip at very short notice and I found Air Transat…although the online reviews were a bit “scary”. The online booking went smoothly and the mid-week, outward and return flights left on time and arrived on time. Good work guys. The check in teams at Glasgow and Toronto were friendly and helpful. The flight crew were friendly and efficient… probably helped by the fact that the flights were around half full. My checked baggage was retrieved quite quickly on both occasions. The seating and catering was reasonable for economy class and in my experience better than expected from many of the harsh reviews. Perhaps I had beginners luck! I will be using them again. Keep up the good work.

I will not use Air Transat again Unless I have no option

I arrived yesterday Sunday November 12 , 2023 with Air Transat from Toronto to London Gatwick. I was supposed to pay CA$55 for my checked in suitcase according to Air Transat policy but I was charged instead and without any justification CA$90. I had to go to a check in staff because the system denied me any electronic access !! The cabin service was bad and we were served a meal which I thought it was a pet food .. it was tasteless and really bad and it caused me stomach troubles till the moment of writing this review. I was surprised that they were selling a blanket and ear phones set for CA$20. Thank God the cabin temperature was tolerable and there was no need for a blanket. With the seat being uncomfortable and no pillow was provided, it became compulsory for most of the passengers to stay sleepless. The only good thing in that flight was the smooth landing at Gatwick Airport when aircraft touched down. I don’t think I will ever use Air Transat unless I don’t have any other option.

We booked a flight with Air transat - Be aware of their system if another airline is involved.

We booked a flight with Air transat, flying from Vancouver to Manchester (UK) via Toronto. 1st flight was with Porter airlines , I wasn't made aware that another airline was involved until I had paid full money, also was then advised that I was unable to checkin online or choose my own seats.
Arrived in Vancouver from Victoria, went to check in and was promptly told we owed $258 and couldn't check in until it was paid. THIS WAS UNTRUE.
Invoice was paid in full at time of booking 3 months earlier. I stated that we owed nothing check in agent said I had been given a refund but that I now had to pay it back - RUBBISH.
The check in agent asked me to contact Air Transat myself to sort it out, I said No, she then got her colleagues phone gave it to me and said find the number and call them if you don't you cannot board this flight. I said you find the number and I will speak to them, this she did, I eventually spoke to a rather rude man at AIR TRANSAT who said I had to forward my confirmation email to them and he would try to help me ,this I did, he told me he received it and he hung up on me. I was furious, the check agent had left and her colleague was checking other people in i had to interrupt her and explain, she then called their own customer helpline. This all took 1 hour, she explained that AIR TRANSAT does not pass on the money you pay them for the partner airline flight until you check in. APPALLING. The porter staff said this happens all the time ... we did then get checked in, we had already had 1 flight and had the prospect 2 more flights a total of 10 hours flying NOT what we wanted. We have had no apology from AIR TRANSAT. The flight left alot to be desired, lack of toilets on the smaller airbus on a flight longer than 6 hours - bad. Airline staff abit rude and abrupt. Choice of movies and food has not changed or been updated in over 18 months. Temperature in cabin too hot and leg room poor unless you are in row 16. We will be flying to Canada again as we have very close family there but it will not be with them , please be aware, of this stupid system they have.

Wished that I had read reviews before…

Wished that I had read reviews before travelling with this outdated airline ! From waiting to board the plane I could hear people complaining about the awful flight they had before this one . Stepping onto the aircraft I knew it was going to be bad ,having a 8 hour flight ahead of us to find out there was no entertainment on board my heart just dropped and a few heated words followed! Our flight was delayed for over 3 hours on the tarmac ,due in this time we was only offered some disgusting granola bar water was not offered! When the flight did take off crew came around selling food and drink unbelievable! Seats very uncomfortable and the attitude of some crew wasn’t good even the captain’s communication with passengers lacked big time . The food given on board is just disgusting and not sure if my dog would eat it to be honest. First and last time will travel with this airline. This company in my opinion should not be offering long haul flights !

We'll get there and save some money - how bad can it be I thought!

Despite booking a flight that was schedule to be operated by Air Transat, they changed it to a flight with SkyTrax or someone like that.
No screens. WIFI entertainment system clunky. No USB charging points.
On the way back from Toronto, our overnight flight had seats that did not recline - at all!
So you need to decide, do you want to have any chance of sleep, or just lose the day when you arrive by sleeping all day.

The online portal is useless

The online portal is useless! Check in process is terrible. Phone support is non-existant. Utter garbage, save yourself the stress and frustration and book with another airline.

Paid for booking, no confirmation

Already the second time that we’ve booked a flight to Canada and after payment we didn’t receive a confirmation from Air Transat.
Chatting with the flight company’s employers, they couldn’t find the booking. They sent us back to our bank. Our bank sent us back to Air Transat and told us we might have to wait for over 14 days to get a refund? I mean, say WHAT? Now we are not able to rebook, cause the money is gone. This is not how you treat your customers. The money was suppose te be back in 72 hrs. But I am wondering if it’s ever going te be refunded. A very upset customer.
