Scammers. Stay far away from this despicable company.

They will sell you an international model camera (noted on the site in fine print with no mention of the fact that international models don't come with a real warranty. Then they try to upsell you an American version of the product for (much) higher price (usually including a low quality kit lens or two). If you know this going in and don't mind no warranty, then their prices are good. But I found their practice to be essentially bait and switch.

This is classic bait and switch followed up with high pressure up-selling tactics. On 6/21/25 my wife placed an order for a Sony a7IV camera body, for about $1700. On Sunday 6/22/25 she received a call, to "verify" the order. This turned into a discussion about how the $1700 model was not a US model and would have no warranty. But conveniently they had a bundle for a US model for about $2300. Come to find out, the bundle they were offering actually had a price of $1800 on their website. They were immediately emailed about this discrepancy. We received no response. I called on Monday 6/23/25 at exactly 8:12AM EST since they open at 8:00Am to cancel the order since it had not shipped yet. I talked to the same person that scammed my wife. His name was Adam at ext 208. I said I wanted to cancel the order. He was immediately very belligerent and threatening and refused to cancel the order even though it had not shipped. Be careful. They will not verify anything in writing or email. Everything is done over the phone so they can lie. I immediately called my credit card company.

This place is a scam. Half the reviews below are fake. Don’t fall for the bait and switch. The salesman “Michael” lied about the included accessories and was incredibly rude on the phone. Worst business I’ve dealt with in a long time

Website homepage is set up well. Menu was easy to read. Product lists were clear and detailed. Selection and payment process was quick and clear.

I wish I would have investigated their business practices before ordering. They bait and switch the products sold. I was told I would receive the US version of a Canon camera. I try to register through Canon US and it does not work. States it is NOT a US supported product. Stay Away for Abe's.

I was in my car searching for a non Amazon source for Canon EP 6P batteries for a trip I was taking after Easter. Best Buy was out. B&H was closed for the holidays. So was Adorama. So I called Abe’s of Maine. They sold me 2 “replacement” batteries for $149.99 each and 2 Scan Disc 128GB Extreme Pro. CF express cards type B for $239.99 each.
I don’t have the time to return them or hassle Abes about a refund so I will eat it.
But I will never patronize them or recommend them. Beware!!!

Abe’s of Maine isn't in Maine. They are are con artists running a racket out of New Jersey.

Their entire business model is built on bait-and-switch tactics and deceptive upselling via phone calls.

Don’t be fooled when they insist on a phone call. That’s not for customer service—it’s so they can avoid putting anything in writing and later deny what they told you.

Read the one-star reviews. You’ll see a clear pattern of dishonesty and manipulation.

Shop elsewhere.

False advertisting. They post a camera they has in stock, but when I ordered it, they don't have it and raise the price up if I really want to buy. Dishonest store.

Bought and paid for a camera. They called and tried to upsell. It's a typical bait and switch scheme for this site. They offered to "upgrade" the order to a "US-model"? for extra money. Awful sales tactics. Avoid at all costs.

Item I got is what I wanted. However, the shopping experience left me with a sour taste.
Had my item on the website, said it was in stock and would take 7 days to arrive. Ordered it.
The next day got a call with claims that the product was not in stock and would take up to 14 weeks for it to arrive because it came from overseas.
They they "upsold" me to another of the same product that they had in stock and ready to go.
This prompted me to start investigating this company.
Lets just say, I will never buy from them again because of their used car sales person attitude.

Company called me the day after I placed an order and proceeded to try and upsell me on all sorts of stuff. When I wouldn't take them up on any of it they kept pushing my delivery date out more and more, until it was 10 weeks out. On their website it states product is in stock! Then when I checked on my order they had completely canceled it.

Be aware that this company specializes in grey imports, you are not getting US product with US warranty.

Great customer service and excellent help on my Sony camera order ,they also gave me a good deal on all the accessories that I needed to get The camera up and running plus quick delivery.
The Price was much cheaper than my local store, will be back for More .

This company has been around for 4 decades. I have been ordering from them for years, They have a great selection on tons of
Photography gear.

I ordered a Fuji digital camera from here that nobody else seems to have. I was very happy when I received it in just a couple of days. Thank you so much and keep up the good work!

I have purchased from Abe's in the past for both personal and business needs without issue. However, my recent experience has left me feeling.... dirty.

I placed an order for $1800 and received an email instructing me to call to confirm my purchase. During the call, the salesman, Michael, informed me that the bundle I purchased did not include any accessories, not even a strap, charger and battery that was supposed to be included. He then proceeded to upsell me to a $2100 bundle.

I felt pressured and uncomfortable but ultimately agreed to the upsell. When I received the package, I found that the additional $300 only included a larger memory card and battery, both of which were no-name brands. And zero indication that the battery is actually larger.

I am extremely disappointed with this experience. I feel that I was taken advantage of and misled by Michael's sales tactics. His pushy demeanor and fast-talking made it difficult to ask questions or express concerns.

The product remains unopened on my desk, as I feel deeply uneasy about this transaction, and I might ask for an RMA. I doubt I will ever purchase from Abe's again due to this negative experience.
