I have had very bad experiences with Wimdu and Kingly rentals. Wimdu is not to be trusted, many advertisements on their website are false. I came in contact with Kingly Rentals through Wimdu. I was ripped of by Kingly Rentals, it is a fake company. Be very careful when dealing with these two companies!

Today, four years after this post, Wimdu replies they are sorry and would like to receive more information!?!?! This makes it even worse! Check your correspondence with me and the letters of my lawyer. This is incredible!

Do not book thru Wimdu. Trying to book a villa at Ibiza we got in contact with a fake company - Kingly Rentals - and found out they steal peoples id's/pictures. Their web changes all the time - new names, new pictures. So be careful. Do your research - and for good sake - AVOID Kingly Rentals!!! They're fake.

Wimdu always collects a fee of approximately 22% whatever.

In our case the apartment did not live up to the description with regard to the location of the apartment in the building. Ten steps were promised but it was at the 2nd floor with fifty steep steps which is important because we were travelling with a person with limited mobility. The host immediately offered full refund but Wimdu kept their fee.

Further neither the host nor we were able to get in contact with Wimdu 24 hours service. We left voice messages and e-mails and support request on their home page. No reaction until 4 days later.

We prepaid € 550 and the host refunded € 450 through Wimdu’s claim process (3 weeks) but Wimdu kept approximately € 100 equivalent 22%.

Wimdu referred to their cancellation rules which by the way do not specify agreed cancellation upon arrival.

WARNING TO ALL AUSTRALIAN USERS

This company is a complete scam, they do not respond to emails, we booked accommodation in New York city and have not tried for 2 weeks to get a response from this company regarding not being able to contact the host. neither the host or WIMDU are responding.
I have requested that the booking be cancelled and my money refunded, again no response from WIMDU. I will now lodge a complaint with the EU ombudsman regarding this company and its shoddy service.

Used the services of Wimdu twice. The accommodation was in accordance with the description. So far so good, bu at the second booking, the charges appeared only at the very last moment. Wimdu seems to refuse to give any insight into the way they calculate these. Would I recommend them to others? Not wholeheartedly..After all, they are not the only ones in the market.

I used wimdu to book an apartment in Turin. I was able to determine availability online. Booking was easy and quickly confirmed. The wimdu info re the apartment turned out to be very accurate. We ultimately had a great host and great accommodation. I think it was a good service.

Wimdu is hopeless. We are travelling from Australia and trusted the accommodation description but having encountered drunks at the station, vomit, loitering youths, a man with blood all over his face from a recent fight we were very worried for our safety. The staircase to the apartment was unlit, the door was double bolted (adding to our concern about unsafe district!)and although the apartment was clean the bath burped whenever the toilet was flushed. Very substandard. Our concern was expressed to Windu immediately (told to contact them immediately if we had a problem- for what?) who replied basically it was up to us to check the district and refused refund as did the apartment owner. We lost our money for 5 nights as we had to move out for our safety. We will definitely tell all our family and friends to steer clear of the very unprofessional Wimdu booking site.

we were scammed by a property on Wimdu - which W said they had completed their 3 point checks. we were led onto a false/mirror website with payment details. Despite 2 families being scammed of €2500, Wimdu took no responsibility and wouldn't help investigate why their 3 point security failed. They have since removed the scam property BUT we are left without any cover. Really shocking.

Dealings with Wimdu is a breeze. Trustworthy company..would highly recommend and definitely using their website again.

Wimdu was great for apartment hunting and easy to make a booking. Service team provided contact details in case something Went wrong, which it didn't but it was good to know help was available if needed. Would certainly use Wimdu again

With Wimdu you have lots of choices from one room to luxury apartments. And you are free from having ro deal with hotels and all that goes with that. With Wimdu you deal directly with your host who may also give you lots of local info. Not having the cost of often unhealthy hotel food you can eat locally and fresh or just cheaply and if you have your own kitchen that's a great bonus too for those smoothies and late night snacks.
Wimdu suits all ages - I'm a solo traveller heading for 70 years of age and it is just right for me as it would have been when I was a lot younger and in a group
It is very professionally run and I do not hesitate giviing a high recommendation.

Our major criticism of Wimdu is that it doesn't live up to its boast of "Wimdu allows you to book your holiday apartment directly with the owner and experience life from a local’s perspective, offering you an authentic way to travel." We stayed in five different locations in Europe. The best ones were the places that we were actually met and talked with the owner (2 out of 5) and not just an 'agent' or representative. In two of the cases the 'owner' seemed to be a business or even a real estate agency in one case. When you are met by an agent or someone who is just an employee they don't have the same interest or investment in your satisfaction. In the case of the Amsterdam apartment we had a terrible experience of having to find alternative accommodation because the apartment we booked 4 months earlier had been double booked (no doubt because the 'owner' had multiple listed the property and lost track of the booking processes. My guess is that Wimdu for her was just another way of advertising).
Finally, since we are not wealthy we save to go on an overseas holiday every two years or so. I would guess that this would be more often the case that not so the idea of $25 voucher that expires in 60 days is a bit of a joke.
