I passed my driving test this morning first time with only 4 faults!
A massive thank you to Phil for being so patient and supportive throughout my driving journey, which has definitely been a long and stressful one for me.
Phil is a fantastic instructor for anyone who feels nervous about learning to drive. He didn’t just teach me how to pass the test; he also taught me how to drive confidently in tricky, real-life situations.
I cannot recommend Wests Driving School enough for anyone looking for an instructor.

I passed my practical test first time at Hornchurch Test Centre, with Spencer at West School of Motoring!

Spencer was always calm, friendly, and patient throughout lessons, which created a comfortable learning environment where I felt confident asking questions and working on areas I wanted to improve. His teaching style was clear and well structured — he not only explained how to do things, but why, which was key in building my understanding and confidence in different driving situations.

In the weeks leading up to my test, we focused heavily on my weaker areas through mock tests and detailed tailored feedback, which made me feel much more prepared and helped me pass first time with only 2 minors!

What stood out was the emphasis on becoming a confident and competent driver beyond just passing the test. I’d definitely recommend Spencer to anyone looking for a supportive and thorough instructor. Thank you!

STAY CLEAR OF WESTS DRIVING SCHOOL.
(Staying anonymous for safety) I was looking for a professional approved driving instructor around my area until I landed on Phil West's Driving school. Looking at all those 5 star reviews made me think he's reliable. Its not. Most of these are fake or forced.

Upon my first lesson with him he sent me all these unnecessary papers and folders, overcomplicating driving heavily. Next, after the first taster lesson, he immediately asked me which dates I want booked in, pushing me for a block booking immediately. Over the coming months, he repeatedly pressured me about booking in more blocks, weeks prior before I could even know if I would be free on those days, then making me feel terrible and stressed if I missed payments or something as simple as cancelling or re-scheduling lessons. Very manipulative. This school is very money driven.

I ended up having 40+ hours with him, slowly realising he is keeping me around for a stable income. He NEVER took me to any test routes despite knowing which area i will be taking the test in. I only got onto the main roads after 20 hours. Very unprofessional too, every 10 minutes of driving we'd pull over and just talk while he smokes.
Made something I am passionate about into stress anxiety and overcomplicated everything to keep me around for cash.

I was getting worried when he couldn't be bothered to get me a test, seemed like he had no plans of passing me. So, I had a taster lesson with a new school and immediately gained my confidence back. They were shocked to find out I had this many hours and haven't been to a single test route yet. I then dropped him and moved on with the new instructors. He was very passive aggressive with his tone when I did. Whats more is they booked my test for me immediately and after two months with them I passed first time.

To put it simply, steer clear from this place. I lost so much money and time because of this money hungry business, led by an arrogant, manipulative, unprofessional instructor.

I passed my driving test first time at Hornchurch Test Centre with only one minor, and I couldn’t be happier! Spencer has been my instructor since March 2025, and learning with him each week has been a great experience. He has been consistently patient, supportive, and encouraging, always helping me correct my mistakes and become a safer, more confident driver.

I’m certain I wouldn’t have achieved my pass without Spencer’s excellent instruction.

If anyone is looking for a driving school, I highly recommend Wests School of Motoring.

Wests Driving school are extremely great !!! Their instructors are so kind and have great teaching methods. They don’t only teach you how to pass the test but genuine road skills and knowledge. If you are driving automatic I highly recommend Drita, she is lovely and very patient with you.

I had an excellent experience with Wests driving school. I was lucky enough to be under the supervision of Phil West, he made me feel so safe and so confident on the roads. He is an excellent instructor who takes the time to know his learners and understand how they learn. Phil got me to test standard where I was able to pass first time and also secure many life valuable skills along the way. I could not recommend Wests driving school highly enough!!

I took up lessons with Phil from Wests school of driving at the beginning of April 2025 with a driving test at Chingford test centre fast approaching in early June. Prior to this I had some driving experience but hadn’t driven for over 6 months so was starting from fresh. Thanks to Phil’s excellent driving skills and teaching methods, he was able to get me where i needed to be in 2 months to be road ready, and pass first time with him. It was a great experience learning with him and he was easy to get along with and was patient when I made mistakes and helped me learn from them. I would highly recommend for new drivers and people returning to lessons.

Alexandra is a very good instructor. I passed first time with her! She gives tips and advice tailored to the student. She is patient, supportive and makes you feel comfortable and confident when driving. I would highly recommend to learn to drive with Alexxa!

Fantastic driving school! Before driving with Phil I had had previous lessons with another driving school but I had no confidence in driving or my manouveres, made loads of mistakes and failed my first driving test. Compared to my previous instructor, Phil was incredibly patient, observant and gave me loads of details and advice which helped me to improve immensely. I get high anxiety when it comes to tests but phil was very supportive and helped me to build confidence in my own skills as a driver. I finally passed today on my second attempt after driving with phil for a year! I couldn't reccomend a better instructor especially for nervous drivers like me. Thank you so much Phil!😄

I learnt with Phil for around a year and passed first time with 1 minor. I knew going in I was in good hands as he’d taught both my siblings over the last 13 years. Phil was really supportive through out and incredibly patient and kind when dealing with my severe anxiety. He knew when to push me and when I needed a little extra time and support, couldn’t recommend him enough. I am now a confident driver and ready to take on the road!

Firstly this school is a pretty much a money minded enterprise.
I hired West as my driving instructor for a lesson. He insisted that I take 2 hours together so that he could assess my driving and evaluate the lessons accordingly.

He shared a huge documents of print out and asked me to bring it on the day of the lesson. Little did i know he wanted to buy my time by simply going through the documents.

Trust me he let me drive for 5 minutes out of those 2 hours and said he assessed my driving and i require at least 48 hrs of lessons.
I sat there behind the wheel looking at his mouth like i was in a classroom.
What kind of assessment would that be ?

If he really were genuine he should have refunded my lesson cost or say that he would adjust my payment in my next lesson . Because all the information he shared were theories which u can find it easily online.

Come on, it’s a practical driving test for god sakes.

And when i refused to take additional lessons he got furious and started cursing me that i end up with very bad instructor and fail my tests.

All these 5 star reviews u see here are pretty much fake.

But if u still continue to go ahead with this school, just make sure u have enough bank balance because he is going to be after it. GOOD LUCK

A huge thank you to Wests and my instructor Spencer, whose skills and patience throughout my learning enabled me to pass 1st time today at Hornchurch with 2 driving faults. Throughout my entire time in lessons with Spencer, I was afforded his full commitment, time and energy which is something that gives huge confidence to a learner driver.
